We live in an uncompromising age, a time of hard edges and bristling polemic. Our current culture too often confuses strength with bombast, conviction with absolutism, passion with intolerance. Deliberation and compromise are portrayed as weakness, and unyielding rigidity as power. Rage is all the rage. As the “IT ALL COMES TOGETHER IN THIS HOUSE” Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Louise Glück Scenes from Temple’s Historic Celebration suggests in the lines above, ours might be called a machine age: Too readily and too lazily, our pp. 9-11 minds prefer shine to roots. And then along come the High Holy Days, with a completely counter-cultural message: Slow down and stop shining. Look within before you shout without. Stop. Reflect. Struggle. Consider your responsibilities to others. Create the space for questions that do not have easy answers. Permit uncertainties that shake you off center. Allow for regret and change. Open your heart to new possibilities. Grow deep. Consider the sound of the shofar: ragged, varied, piercing precisely because it’s not pretty. It is the sound of roots, not shine. The Stacks are Back: CONCERT AND CONVERSATION Re-Imagining Temple’s Libraries PRESENTED BY TEMPLE AND THE SMU DEPARTMENT OF JEWISH STUDIES The Board of Trustees approved an exciting interim plan to combine the Budner Youth Library with the Weisberg Library. The new arrangement will allow for many functions and use by all ages while Temple reviews the future of its library and archives collections.

The existing Weisberg collection was winnowed to remove obsolete Experience Michael and Alaa’s music, personal materials and moved to a unified area. At the same time, the ECEC stories from their travels in the Middle East and materials were relocated across the hallway. The interior was refreshed the inspiration behind their exciting sound. and redecorated so that natural light and space were maximized. ECEC’s new kindergarten class is now meeting in the Budner Library Tickets: $15 general admission; $10 65+ space, welcoming a new generation of learners.
