NEWs

Ghostbust3rs Juliette Patterson Draft scripts for III have been around since the 1990s, with Dan Aykroyd leading the movement. After multiple difficulties, including the death of Harold Ra- mis, Ivan Reitman, director of the original Ghostbusters and sequel Ghostbusters II, finally stepped away from the pro- ject. However, this hiccup didn’t stop Aykroyd from continuing to work on ideas for the third installment. Though this never worked out, a new spin on the old movie is coming soon. Director (Spy, Bridesmaids, Freaks and Geeks) has taken on the task of creating a new addition to the Ghostbusters franchise. Written by Feig and Katie Dippold (, The Heat), the script for this “hard reboot” entails new adventures pioneered by new charac- ters. Reitman plans to produce this movie, but it will feature all new cast members. The four main characters in Ghostbusters (2016) are Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Melissa McCarthy. The film will also feature supporting actors Matt Walsh and Chris Hemsworth, as well as cameos by two of the original Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray. Filming took place in Boston in the summer of 2015. Promotion for this movie hasn’t been large up to this point, but a line of character posters released in December features black and white backgrounds with neon hues. Additionally, Feig has kept fans up to date with occasional sneak previews of props through his Twit- ter account. recently published a still of the four actors standing in front of green smoke. LEGO created a new set of Ghostbusters Legos available July 1st. Fans anticipate new information as the release date approaches. Catch Ghostbusters in a theatre near you on July 17th!

Primaries By: Juliette Patterson The Iowa Caucus kicks off primary season each major election year. This year, the initial primary was held on February 1st. Though this particular election does not forecast the future of the entire election season, it provided the first glimpse of the voters’ opinions and allowed candidates to see where they stand.

This caucus was a closed election, which means the 44 Democratic delegates and 30 Republican dele- gates were only allowed to vote in the caucus of the party they were registered with.

This year, an incoming snowstorm threatened the overall participation in the caucus, so some experts say the poor weather affected the attendance. However, the election went on.

The Republican Party results proved Texas Sen. Ted Cruz a winner with eight delegate votes, while Donald Trump and Marco Rubio trailed in second and third places, respectively. Both candidates tal- lied seven delegate votes each.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton surpassed Bernie Sanders by a difference of two delegate votes and 0.3% of the votes. Though there were no delegate votes for Martin O’Malley, he received 0.6%.

Next, the New Hampshire primaries were held on February 9th. Donald Trump took the Republican vote at 35.3%. John Kasich and Ted Cruz followed with 15.8% and 11.6%, respectively.

Bernie Sanders led the Democratic vote with 60%, while Hillary Clinton had 38.6% of the votes.

After analyzing the results from the early primaries, Republican Candidates Mike Huckabee, Rick San- torum, Rand Paul, Carly Fiorina, and Chris Christie have withdrawn, as well as Democratic Candidate Martin O’Malley.

Election season continues with the Nevada Caucus and South Carolina Primary on Saturday, February 20th.

Spring Break Fun :)?

By: Kayla Sturdevant

When people hear “Spring Break” they could think a number of things: “Break!” “Sleep!” “Time to catch up on all the things I’ve been putting off!” “Work!” “!”

Well I certainly have felt those ways all at some point. However, some people benefit from different options.

Half of Spring Break is a break. Take it. Your body and mind deserve the break. Take a deep breath in and enjoy the sound of no class for a whole week.

As tempting as staying in bed and watching Netflix might be, go out- side with your . If that’s too much, ask a friend to come over and watch Netflix with you. Bonding over movies and shows strength- ens friendships. Don’t have friends? Try making one. Ask someone before break starts if they’d like to do some- thing over break with you. There’s someone you just thought of to ask. Ask them. Just try it. Here’s the kicker: follow through with your plans. It’ll be worth it.

As mentioned earlier, Spring Break is a break. Yes, you should be doing things to ensure that you won’t be be- hind when you get back to class, but I don’t think this time should be used to get ahead. It should be used to catch up with yourself and others. Through the rustle and bustle of school, it can be difficult not to lose yourself and what matters to you. Keep yourself in check to make sure you’ve met all of your needs.

I certainly love to work when I’m not in school, but I won’t let it be the only thing I do. It’ll be a perfect chance to wrack in more of those hours to get more money. After all, college is right around the corner.

All in all, don’t let this Spring Break pass you by. Make time for you and stay safe. Remember: only three more months until this semester is over! Picture from http://www.stereogum.com/495331/vh1-100-greatest-artists-of-all-time/franchises/list/attachment/van-halen/

SPORTS Super Bowl Summary By: Kayla Sturdevant What’s a Houstonian to do when the Broncos and Panthers go head to head at the Super Bowl? Pick a side and stick to it. Throughout the game, the Denver Broncos took a steady lead, however the Carolina Panthers didn’t go down quiet- ly. The Panthers didn’t score until the 2nd quarter where the Broncos pushed themselves even more ahead by 6. When the half time show started, it was pretty obvious who would take the trophy, but the Panthers still attempted to make a comeback. It was a struggling sight to see the Broncos score again and again when the final score came down to 24 to 10. At the end of the game, Cam Newton, quarterback of the Panthers, looked quite distressed after the loss. Meanwhile, Peyton Manning, Broncos quarterback, hugged John Schnatter, founder of Papa John’s. The Super Bowl isn’t only about the game though. Many people en- joy watching the commercials companies buy air time for and the in- credible half time show featuring amazing artists. Some “fan favorite” commercials this year include the Puppy Monkey Baby from Mountain Dew Kick Start, H&R Block’s “Moving on up”, and Steve Harvey’s appearance in the T Mobile commercial. Many people were disappointed with Coldplay’s main take of the stage for the half‐time show, although they per- formed outstandingly. Beyoncé’s fans wanted her to take center stage or at least have more air time. There were also some controversies arising with Beyoncé’s performance of her new song, Formation, because of the promotion of black pride and power. Some people were also upset with Coldplay’s finale of color, assuming that the NFL was supporting gay marriage. Quite an eventful year, maybe the Houston Texans can make it to next year’s Super Bowl. The game will take place in Houston. Picture from http://funkade.in/tag/super-bowl-2015/

School A Night with the Stars

By: Allison Dean

On Friday, January 29th, the Clear Horizons chapter of the National Honor Society treated students and staff to a night with their favorite “celebrities”. The dance had a theme of TV and Movies, and dancegoers were encouraged to dress up as their favorite celebrities or characters from popular shows and movies. Some activities of the night included dancing (obviously), multiple rounds of Just Dance, and a costume con- test. The costume contest was a close one, but Trevor Ruffaner, a senior, NHS working hard to make sure everything

goes as planned! ended up winning his amazing Jack Sparrow costume. NHS worked hard and put on a great dance as they always do, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

Students (and Ms. Maldonado) having a good

time and quizzing each other on their

movie trivia.

Hallowed Ground– Black History Month Kick off Luncheon By: Aaron Beaty On Wednesday, February 2nd, we had a special luncheon here at San Jac South. Student life organized this luncheon in order to kick off Black History Month. As students and faculty ate an excellently prepared meal, Dr. Judson Robinson III spoke to them about the idea of leaving a legacy and the importance of remembering those who have come before us and paved the road on which we walk. Mr. Robinson is the President and CEO of the Houston Area Urban League, referred to as HAUL. He works constantly to to educate and empower urban youth, with a special emphasis on preparing them to enter the workforce. He helps people navigate the confusing world of real estate as families buy their first house, along with many other programs. The luncheon was a great suc- cess and attendees left feeling inspired to become more active in the community. To find out more about HAUL and Mr. Robinson, go to haul.org.
