Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home – Campaign Creative

1. Synopsis

Crocodile Dundee is back. Well, actually, he’s missing in the Outback. And the only person who might be able to find him is the loudmouthed American son no one knew he had. Introducing Danny McBride as Brian Dundee. This son of a legend is forced to channel his Aussie roots as he teams up with a local expert, Wally Jr., played by . Together, they’ll embark on the ultimate adventure in the land Down Under. It’s time to live up to the family name.

High on a cliff we see a silhouette of a man looking out over the canyon. As we get closer and closer, the music builds. A series of titles build anticipation for who the man is. They read, “This summer... The son of an Australian legend... Returns home...”. We see the man wearing a crocodile skin vest and black hat. He turns to camera and we realize it's Danny McBride. He confidently says, "G'day losers". We cut back to Danny playing with his huge knife and putting his own spin on the original film’s most famous line, “That’s not a knife. That’s a knife.”.

Wally Jr. (played by Chris Hemsworth) is waiting for someone by the side of the road next to his dusty, rugged truck. He sees the bus approaching and holds up a sign with “DUNDEE” written on it. The bus comes to a halt and a man awkwardly gets off with multiple roller suitcases. It’s Brian Dundee (played by Danny McBride). It’s obvious that he’s a fish-out-of-water when it comes to the outback. Brian and Wally Jr. greet each other and it’s clear that Brian is not what Wally Jr. was expecting. We cut back to Wally Jr. still coming to terms with this man being who he says he is.

Water Buffalo – Full Scene https://youtu.be/XM8GyfxRzA8 In this scene, Wally Jr. and Brian Dundee stop their truck in the middle of a dirt road. Their path is being blocked by a large water buffalo. Just like his dad did in the original film, Brian gets out of the truck and tries to put the buffalo to sleep with a mind-over-matter trick. After his attempts fail to yield the desired results, Wally Jr. tries to offer some advice. Brian takes offence to this and abruptly tells Wally Jr. to stop distracting him. Finally, Wally Jr. gets his message across. He says, “I don’t think he can see you from

Factsheet – Campaign Creative back here”. We now see that Brian is standing at least 30-feet from the buffalo. We cut back to Brian defiantly saying “whatever” and walking back to the truck.

Chris Hemsworth Chris Hemsworth is an Australian actor and Tourism Australia’s global ambassador. Chris is most known for portraying comic book hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, a role which he has reprised five times since 2011. Hemsworth has also appeared in a number of other films including and the Huntsman (2012), Red Dawn (2012), Rush (2013), In the Heart of the Sea (2015) and (2016). His upcoming releases include , Avengers: Infinity War and Bad Times at the El Royale.

Chris Hemsworth was born in and saw quite a bit of the Australian country in his youth, moving with his family, including brothers Liam and Luke, to the before settling down on , south of Melbourne. Hemsworth and his family (wife, and three children) relocated in 2015 from to the beachside town of Byron Bay, Australia, famous for its pristine beaches and surf culture.

Danny McBride Danny McBride is an American actor, comedian and writer most recently known for his role in the HBO series (2015-2017) which he also co-produced.

His career in film began in 2006 with the low budget film in which he starred and co- wrote with now long-time collaborators and Ben Best. He then went on to star alongside and in Pineapple Express (2008); in Land of the Lost (2009); and in Up in the Air (2009); and James Franco and Jonah Hill in (2013).

In 2009 he wrote and starred in the HBO comedy series Eastbound & Down (2009-2013), which was produced by Will Ferrell’s production company, . McBride’s second comedy series, Vice Principals (2015-2017) was highly acclaimed amongst the American comedy scene.

Paul Hogan Paul Hogan is an Australian comedian, actor and television presenter best known for his role as Michael "Crocodile" Dundee in Crocodile Dundee (1986) and his ‘quintessentially Australian’ appeal.

Paul Hogan was born in Lightning Ridge, , Australia and worked as a rigger on the Harbour Bridge. After appearing on an amateur Australian talent program, New Faces in 1971, he became a regular on the popular news program A Current Affair, with a segment that brought humour to the issues of the day. Paul grew to become a household name in Australia after gaining popularity with his comedy sketch program The Paul Hogan Show and being named in 1985.

Paul was chosen to star in the Australian Tourist Commission’s (now Tourism Australia) first television commercial, which first aired on the west coast of the USA in January 1984. In his laconic Aussie accent,

Hogan invited Americans to share Australia’s beaches, outback, cities and relaxed lifestyle, adding the classic line, “I’ll slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for you”. The ‘Shrimp’ advertisement is now recognised as a classic in the world of advertising. Hogan was also appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his service to tourism and entertainment in Australia.

Capitalising on his new-found profile in the US, Hogan co-wrote and starred in Crocodile Dundee (1986), which saw him nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and win the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance.

Following the success of the film, The Crocodile Dundee franchise was born with the release of Crocodile Dundee II (1988) and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001).

Hugh Jackman Hugh Jackman is an Australian actor, singer, and producer. He is known for his long-running role as Wolverine in the X-Men film series. His work in Les Misérables earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and his first Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy in 2013. The Australian actor has also earned acclaim for his stage work, winning a Tony Award in 2004 for his performance in The Boy from Oz.

Jackman was born and raised in Sydney and attended the Australian Academy of Performing Arts in .

Margot Robbie Margot Robbie is a house-hold name, known in Australia for her time on and more predominately so, for her Academy Award nomination for I, Tonya (2018). Robbie is also known for her role in the blockbuster film, The Wolf of Wall Street, where she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. Originally from Queensland, she currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband British Assistant Director Tom Ackerly.

Russell Crowe Russell Crowe is an actor, film producer and musician most known for his Oscar winning performance in Gladiator (2000) and A Beautiful Mind (2001). Russell was raised in Sydney from the age of 4 and currently lives in Sydney.

Isla Fisher Born to Scottish parents in , Isla Fisher moved to Perth at age 6. Much like fellow Aussie-born Hollywood actors, her breakout role was in the Australian soap . She is known for roles in (2005), Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), and Now You See Me (2013).

Ruby Rose Born in Melbourne, Ruby Rose travelled frequently, living in rural , Tasmania, and Surfers Paradise before finally settling in Melbourne. As a teenager, she attended the University High School and Footscray City College. Ruby is the god-daughter of Indigenous Australian boxer Lionel Rose and the great-granddaughter of Alec Campbell, the last surviving Australian Battle of Gallipoli soldier. She is well known for her role on series Orange is the New Black and appears in Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).

Liam Hemsworth Liam is the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth. He was also born in Melbourne and has lived in many parts of Australian including the Northern Territory and Phillip Island. Like his brother, Liam began his career with appearances in Home and Away as well as Australian TV Drama’s McLeod's Daughters and Neighbours. Now based in Los Angeles, Liam is well known for his role in film series (2012-2015) and Independence Day: Resurgence (2016).

Jessica Mauboy Jessica Mauboy is an Australian singer songwriter and actress born and raised in Darwin, Northern Territory. Jessica leapt into the limelight as a runner-up on Australia Idol in 2006 and has since gone on to sell over 2.5 million units in Australia; achieve 19 Top 30 hit singles; tour with international musicians including Beyonce and .

Luke Bracey Luke Bracey is an Australian actor, known for his work in films such as Monte Carlo (2011), G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), The November Man (2014), Point Break (2015) and Hacksaw Ridge (2016), and for television series such as Westside and Home and Away. Luke grew up in Freshwater in Sydney’s northern beaches.
