The second Voice of a Scout survey will go out late September to parents, Scouts and Venturers over 14, volunteers and chartered organizations. The surveys have been designed to be very brief, but will give needed insight into the variety of experiences at the unit and district within our council.

Surveys will stay open for three weeks, then information will be referenced for making key decisions to drive Scouting forward, as guided by the people that matter most - our members. It will be a continuous program, in that we will launch these surveys twice per year, with no household receiving more than one survey every six month.

Due to the sheer volume of surveys in this program, we must deliver via email to effectively and efficiently collect opinions. To make the most of this program we will begin asking for emails updates regularly, so please make sure we have your most recent email by contacting our Membership Administrators - Nancy Barrett (West Team) or Megan Thill (East Team) at (630) 584-9250.

3 The mission of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual work- place charity campaign with more than 300 CFC campaigns throughout the country and internationally. Pledges made by federal civilian, postal, and military employees during the campaign season (September 1st to December 15th) help raise millions of dollars each year.

I request that you encourage federal employees who participate in the United Way Combined Federal Campaign between September 1st and December 15th to support the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America by listing our campaign number which is 24341. Please contact Ron Wentzell, Director of Devel- opment, with any questions at (630) 797-4615.

Update on United Way Support for the Three Fires Council As of this year, the Three Fires Council is only receiving funding from the Fox Valley United Way which serves Southern Kane County and all of Kendall County. We wish to thank them for all of their support and the impact they are having in our community.

Outside of the Fox Valley United Way area the only way you can ensure your donation to United Way is directed to Scouting is by writing your preference on the annual pledge form. Your gift will still be directed to the Three Fires Council as long as you write “Designate ___% of my donation to Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America” on the form you will be receiving this fall from your employer during the United Way appeal.

Thank you for your support.

Thank You Alfred Bersted Foundation The Alfred Bersted Foundation, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, is having a significant positive impact on the lives of our Scouts this year through a very generous $15,000 grant to assist disadvantaged and at-risk youth in our Programs. This grant allows the Three Fires Council to serve more youth and expand our programs in hard to serve areas of the Council. Through support from The Alfred Bersted Foundation and other Friends of Scouting donors, our Council has the means to register any boy that wants to experience Scouting regardless of means or circumstance.

The Alfred Bersted Foundation was established in 1972 to support and promote quality educational, human services, and health care programming for underserved populations. The Alfred Bersted Foundation specif- ically serves the people of DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, & McHenry counties in . We wish to thank The Alfred Bersted Foundation for their continued generous support.

You Too Can Make a Difference Through Matching Gifts and Grants From Your Employer Contact your Human Resources Department and fill out a matching gift form to match your Friends of Scouting contribution or for your hours of volunteer service. Submit the form to your company or mail it to the Council depending on the instructions. Once the Council receives the form we will verify the gift or the hours of service and return it to your employer to match your Scouting contribution. You will make an even greater impact on Scouting! Also check with your employer to see if they make grants to community organizations like the Boy Scouts to help us fund our quality Scouting program. Contact Ron Wentzell, Director of Development, at (630) 797-4615 if you have any questions.

An UPDATED Annual Health and Medical Record (AHMR) will be available to Scouts everywhere Sept. 3, 2012. Its use will be mandated by Jan. 1, 2014. The 2012 AHMR revision will have several noticeable changes. In an effort to support the BSA’s All Markets Strategy, we have developed a bilingual format. As you know, accurate medical information is vital to keeping Scouts safe and healthy at all Scouting events. This new format will make it easier for councils and volunteers to have a completed AHMR—as required for all participants. Health & Medical Record Website - (To download the most recent form.)

In addition, information regarding the Summit Bechtel Reserve is included in preparation for the 2013 National and its 2014 program. Please start using the new Annual Health & Safety Form once it is available after its Sept. 3 launch. Any older printed versions should be destroyed.
