Convention in Turin about "Touristic Eco-structures and environmental quality of the Piedmont region. Projects and directions for the competitiveness of Tourism in Italy and the post-Olympic Piedmont"

Tourism is a sector which offers a great potential of economic growth in Italy. Considering that both stakeholders of the tourism sector and public authorities can benefit from a policy of sustainability which promotes environmental management of the territory and environmentally friendly services, they are today exploring the possibilities for making of the tourism sector a model of sustainable development.
The European Eco-label and other ecological labels have set up guidelines to improve environmental quality and to provide consumers with real guarantees of efficiency in environmental protection. That is why Piedmont is implementing many initiatives to support sustainable tourism and the European Eco-label, like during the Olympic Event of Turin 2006.
The aims of the convention are to: • Analyse the situation and the potential development of sustainable tourism in Italy and Piedmont, • Introduce some Italian and Piedmont companies which are pioneers in the fields of sustainable tourism and offers of green services, • Discuss of the future situation in Italy, especially in post-Olympic Piedmont.
Public authorities such as the Italian Ministry of Productive Activities, the Piedmont Region, the Province of Turin and APAT (Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services) will attend the Convention.

Projects presentation: - The European Eco-label within the Olympic area in Piedmont - TOROC - European Eco-label promotion in Piedmont - Tourism city council, Piedmont Region. - Environmental Certification within the Olympic sites - Environment Park - EMAS Certification within the tourist zone: environmental certification of Torino 2006 Olympic sites - Province of Turin, Environment Park - ResHost project: energy-efficienct hotels - Agency for Energy of Turin. - The Hydrogen Hotel in Cesana Torinese - Presentation of Italian hotels awarded the European Eco-label.
