  • Smokin' Line-Up Announced
MEDIA RELEASE For immediate release March 7, 2019 Smokin’ line-up announced Airlie Beach Festival of Music reveals first acts for 2019 For 24 years they were ‘living next door to Alice’, but on November 10 they’ll be singing about her in Airlie Beach. Hit UK band Smokie is among the first headline acts announced for the 2019 Airlie Beach Festival of Music. With sold out tours around the globe, platinum selling albums spanning five decades and over 25 million albums sold worldwide, Smokie is one of the world’s most successful bands, with a place in the time-honoured rock n’ roll elite. From their chart-topping hits like ‘Oh Carol’ and ‘I’ll Meet You At Midnight’ to their landmark ballad of unrequited love for Alice, this is an act not to be missed. “A lot of hit record songs and sore throats the next day from all the singing,” is what founding member Terry Uttley is promising fans in Airlie Beach. “We only get to come to Australia once every three years because of our commitments to most of the rest of the world, so join us live for this performance in paradise,” he said. Also heading to the festival is Australian icon John Williamson. From his first song, ‘Old Man Emu’, which went to Number One for five weeks in 1970, to his tunes of today, Williamson has continued to create enduring hits including ‘True Blue’, ‘Hawkesbury River Lovin’ and ‘Raining on the Rock’ to name but a few. From Adelaide to Airlie Beach, The Superjesus is another act destined for the main stage at the Whitsunday Sailing Club.

QRAM LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE Page 2-3 Cairns QRAM TIMEs OCTOBER GILMORE JOINS TEAM QRAM Gilmore Johnson has returned to his home town of Cairns after 5 years working away in Indigenous Media. Gilmore began his broad- casting career as a volunteer after school at BBM in Cairns. He liked is so much he later took up a trainee radio announcer and producer position on the very popu- lar “Talk Black” program, with host Greg Reid. An opportunity to work in administration at the AICA National Office presented itself and Gil- more was on his way to Canberra. For the past 5 years Gilmore has worked at the Peak Body Can- berra office as a membership officer and getting to know the sector. His work in promoting youth in indigenous broadcasting and his attendance at national youth leadership forums, underpins QRAM current project to set up a multi media centre in Yarrabah. Gilmore grew up in Yarrabah and is one of the representative Traditional Owner Clan family groups for the region. QRAM recently visited Yarrabah to talk to council about their multi media plans for the future. The first step is application for a TCBL as the first building block towards a functioning radio station and multi media future. Yarrabah historically has story lines into northern communities and the Torres Strait. It is these story lines, that they want to explore further and resume the past cultural and family connections. A radio studio, can provide a means for the recording and archiving of spoken word stories in abo- riginal languages.

Diamantina Shire Council Desert Yarns March, 2013 Distributed free to all residents. Volume 4 Issue 60 Upcoming Events Ordinary Council Meeting - March 18 Message from the Mayor Hawaiian Night Golf - March 23 Well things have been fairly quiet as far as mayoral duties go for the month. Outside Council Easter Break - March After the last council meeting, councillors and senior staff underwent another local 23 - April 1 government training session. Seems the local government laws are changing almost on 4WD Action Bash Birdsville - March 30- a daily basis. April 1 As you would probably know the shire has applied to have the shire drought declared. Betoota Gymkhana - April 6/7 I'm not sure how we'll go with this one, as there are a few stiff guidelines which as a ANZAC Day shire may be hard to meet. I believe that individual properties would stand a better chance applying on their own. Big Red Run - July 8/13 There was a Lake Eyre Basin Forum in Longreach, which was attended by Cr Rayment. Birdsville Bronco Branding - May 11/12 It seems this forum was all for stopping all development within the Basin. It is the Birdsville Gymkhana - June 22/23 view of the seven councils within the basin that some controlled development should be allowed. Everyone wants to keep our waterways clean and healthy, no-one more Bedourie Rodeo, Campdraft & than me, but councils should be able to source sand and gravel from within the basin. Gymkhana - June 28/30 Also small scale irrigation for things like market gardens and orchards should be allowed.
