HACKLEY SCHOOL 293 BENEDICT AVENUE TARRYTOWN, NY 914-631-0128 From the North: Take Route 9 south through Tarrytown. Turn left at the traffic light onto Benedict Avenue. Continue through one blinking light and two traffic lights. After the second traffic light, turn left into the Hackley School campus and follow the campus map. From New York City: From the East Side: Take the East River Drive (F.D.R.) and get on the Major Deegan (Interstate 87). Continuenorth until the exit for Saw Mill River Parkway. (continue directions from West Side Saw Mill River Parkway) From the West Side: Take the West Side Drive to the Saw Mill River Parkway. Follow the Saw Mill north and take the exit which reads “Tarrytown 119” (Exit 21w). Turn right (west) on 119. Approximately one-half mile down the road (5 traf€c lights), turn right on Benedict Avenue, a road which forks up the hill. The school gate and sign are on the immediate right at the crest of the hill at the traf€c light. Turn right and follow the follow the campus map. From the South, Southeast, East and Northeast: From the Sprain Brook Parkway, Bronx River Parkway, Connecticut Thruway/Interstate 95, the Merritt or Hutchinson River Parkways, Interstate 684 or the Saw Mill River Parkway: Take Route 287 Westbound. Turn off at Exit 1 for Tarrytown 119 and turn right (west) on 119. Approximately one-half mile down the road, turn right on Benedict Avenue, a road which forks up the hill. The school gate and sign are on the immediate right at the crest of the hill at the traffic light. Turn right and follow the campus map. From West of the Hudson River: From Rockland County and Tappan Zee Bridge: Take the first exit after the toll booth (Tarrytown Route 9) when leaving the Tappan Zee Bridge. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right (north) on Route 9. Turn right at the fourth traffic light (Benedict Avenue). Continue through one blinking light and two traffic lights. After the second traffic light turn left into the Hackley campus and follow the campus map. .

Chapter 8 TRANSPORTATION 8.1 Existing Traffic Conditions and Trends Bedford’s transportation system is comprised of highways and streets, a commuter rail line, bus routes, and sidewalks. The town’s rural, low-density and tri-center pattern favored the growth of auto-related transportation. Most of Bedford’s residents drive – to shop, to commute, for recre- ation. The MetroNorth Harlem line represents the only alternative transportation mode being used to a significant degree primarily by residents commuting to New York City, and the majority of these commuters drive to the train stations. The town is served by interstate and state highways and has a well-developed network of local roads. Interstate 684, the Saw Mill River Parkway, and State Highways 22, 35, 117, 121, and 172 traverse the town. Interstate 684 and the Saw Mill River Parkway both cross through the town in a north-south direction. These highways, together with the Metro-North Railroad (Harlem Line), form the backbone of Bedford’s transportation system. The circulation pattern in the town generally flows according to the functional classification sys- tem established by the 1972 Town Plan and updated for the 1988 Town Development Plan. Some of the state highways and local roads have become adversely impacted by high traffic vol- umes and speeds. Traffic circulating between Pound Ridge, New Canaan, Stamford, Greenwich and Somers, and the local railroad stations, I-684 and the Saw Mill River Parkway use a variety of local roadways. Route 172, Route 22, Harris Road, and Cherry Street are examples of roads and highways that have seen increasing volumes of through traffic.

A River Runs Through It: Community Access to the Bronx River in Tremont and Hunts Point Matthew Bodnar May 2011 Rivers that run through urban areas are often neglected and forgotten. This is because the primary services that they provide for major cities are transportation and shipping. Many urban waterways have become polluted as a result and fail to reach much of their potential. New York City’s rivers and waterfronts are not typically a place where people seek recreation in the form of swimming or boating, except for a few places such as Coney Island, City Island, and Rockaway Beach. Other waterways that could be assets for their communities are also sometimes overlooked. After living in the Bronx for three years, the only knowledge that I had about the Bronx River was that it ran through the forest in the Botanical Gardens.
