This Annual Report was delivered in May 2021, but reports on the period of activity for Hockey Tasmania from 1 January through to 31 December of 2020. Many events and competitions were severely impacted or cancelled during that period, and the overall effect is still not known with the pandemic still spreading in many countries outside of Australia.

One of the most pleasing aspects to our registrations in 2020 was the increase in our master’s competition. We had two divisions in both our women’s and men’s, resulting in a significant increase in numbers. Thank you to Alison Monk & Peter Gaggin who both put in enormous amounts of their time for our growing master’s community.

8 Hockey Tasmania 2020 Annual Report The Festival of Indoor Hockey was another initiative that was great to get off the ground. We had a fantastic weekend at the Silverdome and I thank our indoor committee and all others who assisted and supported this event.

We ran our annual members day in Campbell Town and we had a great cross section of members from around the state. The Board and I certainly appreciated those that attended and their input on the day was invaluable. Hockey Australia arranged access to an Australian JOBKEEPER Institute of Directors course: Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors. A perpetual trophy was created for this award.

Every club in Tasmania was invited to nominate one person from within their club as their “Club Volunteer of the Year”. This person was to be formally recognised with a certificate, online acknowledgment, and publication in the following year’s Annual Report.

HOCKEY TASMANIA AND THE TASSIE TIGERS launched the Tassie Tigers Academy in 2020, part of the Hockey Tasmania Development Pathway which aims to develop the character, skills and game understanding of Tasmania’s emerging talent athletes and to launch future Tigers for Hockey One.

The Tigers Emerging Talent Academy will develop 2020 Satellite Coaches players aged 14-18 while the Tigers Senior Academy Squad will develop players 18+ for potential future Khan Tassie Tigers selection from all around the state. Riley Satellite coaches were appointed to lead trainings North-West in the North-West (Khan Riley), North (Brett Withington), and South (Joshua Mardell).

Natalie Sproule stepped down from her role as State Team Coordinator in September 2020, and everyone at Hockey Tasmania would like to thank Natalie for her hard work and commitment to the role over the last 5 years. Natalie has been extremely dedicated throughout this time in supporting our state teams and has gained the respect of many people both within our community and on a national level.

I took over as State Team Coordinator in October 2020. I have only been part of the Hockey Tasmania community for a few years since moving from the U.K., but already I’ve been heavily involved in both playing and coaching capacities at club and state level. I now hope I can help develop the sport at the

There is still a lot more work to be done but I know, with the quality of volunteers at our clubs and schools, that we can deliver for our community in 2021 and beyond.

UNFORTUNATELY, MOST PERFORMANCE measures were considered unachievable for outdoor hockey due to COVID-19. Umpires and match managers (who were largely volunteers) continued to complete allocated time slots, however limit feedback was available for umpires.

Indoor championships were held at Wollongong in January. Four of our officials umpired at this tournament; Jayden Pearson (U21 and Open), Alissia Pearson (U21), Courtney Pearson (U21) and Aaron Kitchener (U18). Courtney Pearson was promoted to the next championship level and we congratulate her on this achievement.
