Another man came over to protect his friend, pulled out a gun, and shot the man with the bat. I was maybe ten feet from them. The man stared at me and we were bonded for life. In the days following I got to know the man who pulled the trigger, and I became his friend. How was I to know that this incident would shape my life forever? This was the beginning of A Bronx Tale. “I HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. WITH BOB, I HAVE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE MOVIE. HE IS VERY ARTICULATE WITH THE WAY CERTAIN THINGS LOOK AND WHERE THE TRUTH IS IN THE CHARACTERS. JERRY IS THE REAL MUSICAL-COMEDY GUY.     A Bronx Tale Synopsis A Bronx Tale, a new musical set in the early 1960s, is based on the autobiographical play written by Chazz Palminteri. It tells the coming-of-age story of Calogero Anello, a young boy from a working class family who finds himself caught between his loving father and a charismatic mob boss. In Act One, Calogero witnesses Sonny, the mob boss, murdering someone right in front of his house on Belmont Avenue; Calogero covers for Sonny when questioned by the NYPD. Calogero’s father, Lorenzo, who is an MTA bus driver, wants to instill a strong sense of right and wrong in his son, but Calogero goes against his father’s wishes. After Sonny is released by the police with no charges against him, he takes Calogero under his wing and helps him get involved with the “glamorous” world of organized crime. Sometime later, Calogero is all grown up and a full prodigy of Sonny, but his father has no idea he has continued to see Sonny. Calogero has also developed a group of Italian- American friends that Sonny thinks is a bad influence over him and encourages Calogero to stick to his schoolwork. Calogero meets an African-American girl, Jane, on Webster Avenue which is a very different side of the Bronx than where Calogero lives. He asks his father for advice on what he should do when he and Jane go on a date. Calogero’s father doesn’t exactly approve of him going out with Jane because he is concerned for his son’s safety, considering the high racial tensions on the time period, but Lorenzo still gives him advice.

Mathew and Tess will hold workshops on Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4 for all students auditoning. This is sure to be an amazing experience for each of students to gain knowledge and input from these two Broadway veterans. The following are bios for them both: Mathew James Thomas is a Britsh actor and singer who has made appearances Matthew James Thomas in television, flm, and theatre. He is known for his television roles including the BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning, The Lost Prince, and the ITV drama-musical show, Britannia High. Thomas is also recognized for his performance in the ttle role of the 2013 Broadway revival of Pippin, which received a Tony Award for Best Revival Musical. He was also a late additon to the U.S. natonal tour of Pippin in 2014. He had his Broadway debut in 2010 playing Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Turn of the Dark. Thomas trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London and later at the Italia Cont Academy of Theatre Arts also in London. His frst professional actng job came at the age of 8 when he played Kipper in a producton of Oliver.

Based on the Disney film written by Ron Clements, John Musker, Donald McEnery, Bob Shaw, and Irene Mecchi and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, HERCULES will feature over 200 New Yorkers from all five boroughs and features choreography by Chase Brock, as well as additional new songs by Menken and Zippel for this Public Works production, in addition to six songs from the film’s beloved Academy Award-nominated score. A new stage adaptation of the Disney classic, HERCULES will run for seven nights for free, beginning August 31 through September 8, at The Delacorte Theater. The Public Theater’s initiative that invites communities across New York to create ambitious works of participatory theater is closing out the summer in truly epic fashion.

For the purposes of this document, I will make use of the established term low male voice (LMV) while acknowledging that there is a push for the removal of gender from voice classification in the industry out of respect for our trans, non-binary and gender fluid populations. In addition to analysis and summation of musical concepts and content found within each selection, each repertoire selection will include discussions of style, vocal technique, vocalism, and character in an effort to establish routes towards authenticity in the field of musical theatre over the last twenty five years. The explosion of online streaming and online sheet music resources over the last decade enable analysis involving original cast recordings, specific noteworthy performances, and discussions on transposition as it relates to the honoring of character and capability of an individual singer. My experiences with challenges as a young low voice (waiting for upper notes to develop, struggling with resonance strategies above a D♭4) with significant musicianship prowess left me searching for a musically challenging outlet outside of the Bel Canto aesthetic.
