I feel that the Sunday cartoons here live up to the Sunday cartoons when FoxTrot was a daily series. I miss the continuing storylines, but absent those, this is still an entertaining book. Since I was 8 and read the Assorted Foxtrot treasury from my elementary school's library, I've fallen in love with this comic strip. Garfield is still a close runner-up though, but it's been a while since I've read a treasury of that series. But back to Foxtrot. I'm happy to say that Some Clever Title was worth the almost four year wait. There are a few solid gems in this collection that are sure to make any comic fan laugh, and I think those that aren't following the Sunday releases such as mys Since I was 8 and read the Assorted Foxtrot treasury from my elementary school's library, I've fallen in love with this comic strip. There are a few solid gems in this collection that are sure to make any comic fan laugh, and I think those that aren't following the Sunday releases such as myself will be quite surprised with the diverse and quirky collection of comics. Aug 01, Kathleen rated it it was amazing Shelves:anthologycomicsmind-candy. I think this is the most recent one, since it's all Sunday strips and Sunday strips only. I admit that I miss the dailies; it was nice to follow all the plotlines and see Some Clever Title: A Foxtrot Collection Blah Blah Blah arcs unfold. But at the same time, comic strips are so fundamentally unchanging in time and setting that the individual Sunday comic stories sort of works better for the medium. Amend has a reputation for a nerdy, funny comic, and he lives up to it in this collection. I really enjoyed it, all the quirks and jokes and polished artwork, and I gotta say, the comic Les Phys is a solid gold gem. The entire book is great, but that one alone makes up the price of purchase. Well worth picking up, even if you're not necessarily a Foxtrot fan. A bit Some Clever Title: A Foxtrot Collection Blah Blah Blah in the continuing stereotypes but Fox Trot characters never age or change. The swimsuit models inserted in the one comic was below the creator's usual standards. Apr 29, Theresa Pollara rated it it was amazing. This series never gets old! I was so excited to see a new edition! Considering these are cartoons, there is a great repore between the characters.

  • Matthew Holm Was Born and Raised in the Suburbs of Philadelphia, Pa., and Has Been Drawing Comics Since He Was in Middle School
    Matthew Holm was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pa., and has been drawing comics since he was in middle school. Growing up reading four older siblings' comic books and comic strip collections (including Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, and Bloom County), he hoped he might one day grow up to draw a daily newspaper comic strip. He mentored under Pulitzer-prize-winning editorial cartoonist Tony Auth while in high school, and in college, while studying English and Art at Penn State, he drew weekly editorial cartoons for the school newspaper. After college, he worked in New York City as a writer and editor for Hearst's Country Living Magazine, and drew a daily web comic (before the term "web comic" really existed) in his spare time. He first began working with his sister, Jennifer, as a copy editor and fact-checker for her Boston Jane novels, and later drew several pages of comics for her book Middle School Is Worse than Meatloaf. When Jenni came to him in 2001 with the idea of making a comic book with a female heroine named Babymouse, he again picked up his pen and the two worked out the ideas and look for what became one of the first graphic novel series written specifically for children. Today, he continues to collaborate with his sister on several graphic novels each year, both for the Babymouse series as well as the Squish series. He currently lives in Portland, Ore., with his wife and dog. .

    Cartoons: A very few terms & facts Are usually humorous illustrations (“humoristique”) cartoons are also called “funnies” in the US. Except for “editorial cartoons,” whose tone is more serious. The term “cartoon” was first used in 1843 by Punch magazine for its satirical drawings. Cf. Punch cartoonists like John Leech (1792-1878). See example below (“A brutal fellow”). George Cruikshank (see drawing at left) is another famous cartoonist from the 19th century. He is also renowned for his illustrations of Charles Dickens’s novels. Cartoonists [US and UK] are artists who draw cartoons (“dessins humoristiques”), comic strips (US) = cartoon strips (UK) (“bandes dessinées” au sens de “planches de bandes dessinées”), comic books = comics (“BD” ou “bandes dessinées” au sens d’“albums de BD”), and/or graphic novels (“romans graphiques”). Panels: A panel is the name given to each individual drawing. There are single-panel cartoons (only 1 drawing) or multiple-panel cartoons (in a sequence of cartoons). Square boxes can be used to separate panels but there are many examples of lineless panels. Gag cartoons are funny drawings whose caption is usually found under the drawing, not in speech balloons. Classic American "Funnies" 1 "My" collection of comics is really my father's, and begins with the Peanuts books that he bought in the late 1960s and managed to save from the purges conducted by my grandmother, whose expensive folly in throwing out my Dad's vast collection of original Spiderman comics after he left home does not bear thinking about. Charles Schulz's sparse and quiet world was at once a bridge back to my parents' generation and an environment that I thought of as mine, even as the material aged gracefully and its protagonists did not age at all but remained (mentally) just like me.
