The Wolfpack Outlook Despite the loss of four starters, including two—time collegiate Player-of-the-Year David Thompson, coach Norm Sloan is confident that his 1975-76 edition of the Wolfpack will acquit itself well. “I’m very pleased that our recruiting went as well as it did,” says Sloan, who directed the Pack to the 1974 NCAA championship, “and I believe that with our returning players and our new people, we have the talent to compete successfully in our league. “Of course,” adds Sloan, “we’re faced with a different situation than last season in that inexperience will be a definite factor. Nonetheless, I feel we’ll be competitive right from the beginning and can develop into a fine team before the end of the year. Whether we do or not remains to be seen.” Although the graduation toll, which also included floor leader Monte Towe and regulars Moe Rivers and Tim Stoddard, was heavy, the Wolfpack returns two of its top three scorers from last season’s 22-6 club. Muscular Kenny Carr, clearly destined for stardom, was the team’s No. 2 point-maker as a freshman last year with a 13.8 average and finished third in rebounding with 201 in 28 games. The 6-7 Hyattsville, Md., product, an all-ACC tourney selection, will team with veteran Phil Spence at the forward slots. Spence, 6-6 and an off—and-on starter last season, topped the squad in rebounds with a 10.0 average and was third in scoring at 13.1. Freshman Glenn Sudhop, a 7-foot-1 pivotman from South Bend, Ind., is counted on for immediate help at center, a trouble spot for last year’s team. Two other newcomers, Darnell Adell and Al Green, figure prominently in the Pack’s backcourt plans, along with returning sophomores Craig Davis and Bobo Jackson. Green, a transfer from Western Arizona Junior College, was a JC all—America, averaging 29.8 points and seven assists, while Adell, another transfer, was a two—year starter at Murray State, where he averaged nearly 13 points a game. Both Davis and Jackson saw action last year as freshmen and were impressive on occasions. Other players who could move into the picture include freshmen Dirk Ewing and Steve Walker as swingmen, 6-9 sophomore Mike Buurma and 6-8 freshman Eric Agardy.
