MON APRIL 13: DEPART USA

TUE APRIL 14:

WED APRIL 15: ACCRA [B/L/D]

• Optional: Wake-up to see fishing boats launch at 6:30am • Breakfast at hotel • Visit Accra’s colonial areas, including Jamestown, Usshertown, and the Lighthouse, followed by the Nkrumah Mausoleum and Accra Market • Group lunch at a local restaurant • In the afternoon, meet with Sanford Clinic for an introduction on their local health programs • Dinner at your hotel • Overnight at La Palm Royal Beach Resort

THU APRIL 16: ACCRA – [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • AM: NGO visit-TBD, options include o Envronment360, a local waste management NGO o IHCC/WAAF a private clinic and NGO focused in HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmitted and infectious diseases o Pharmaceutical company as Ernest Chemist • PM: Private transfer to Sogakope and relax at the River Volta • Lunch and dinner included • Overnight at the Sogakope Beach Resort www.sogakopebeachresort.com

FRI APRILL 17: SOGAKOPE – ATSIEKPOE – SOGAKOPE [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • Drive to Atsiekpoe-Vome a picturesque village along the banks of the River Volta and home to a community-based tourism project in collaboration with Stepping Stones for Africa; cross the river by

ferry-canoe and undertake a guided walk through the community, where most houses built of termite clay with thatched roofing; meet with the chief and elders and learn about how the community realized their community sanitation program and the construction of a maternal health clinic • Lunch in the village • Meet with the District Health Director and discuss the health outreach planned for tomorrow in Atsiekpoe and surrounding communities • Dinner in local restaurant • Overnight at the Sogakope Beach Resort

SAT APRIL 18: SOGAKOPE – ATSIEKPOE – SOGAKOPE (B/L/D)

• Early breakfast at hotel • Full day of outreach in Atsiekpoe and surrounding rural communities • Lunch in the village and dinner at local restaurant • Overnight at the Sogakope Beach Resort

SUN APRIL 19: SOGAKOPE – [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • Explore the Avu Lagoon and surrounding villages; the only sweet-water lagoon which is part of the internationally recognized wetlands area around ; view herds of Sitatunga, the world’s only aquatic antelope whose habitat is now recognized internationally as a RAMSAR site • Visit a Bush gin distillery to see at first-hand how the local gin is made; take a canoe safari and view a plethora of birds on your way around the village of Bludo; join in a tree planting exercise and contribute to the development of the ecotourism site • Lunch on your own, dinner at the hotel • Overnight at the Volta Hotel: https://voltahotel.com.gh/

OR SUN APRIL 19 [OPTION B]: SOGAKOPE – HO – ATIMPOKU [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • After breakfast, transfer to via Ho • Engage in a batik making workshop in a local textiles workshop and make your own cloth • Group lunch in Ho • Continue Akosombo and free time at the pool • Dinner at the hotel • Overnight at Volta Hotel

MON APRIL 20: ATIMPOKU [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • AM: Visit the Ensign College in Senchi • Group lunch at local restaurant • After lunch, visit the and learn about the effects of climate change and water levels to generate electricity

TUE APRIL 21: ATIMPOKU – (5-6 HRS) [B/L/D]

• Early breakfast at the hotel. • Private transfer to Cape Coast, stop for group lunch along the way • Visit the Cape Coast Museum, previously one of about forty castles that were part of the Trans- Atlantic Slave Trade; it now memorializes those who passed through its doors and educates visitors about this sordid history • Upon arrival in Cape Coast, evening free to rest and relax. • Dinner at the hotel. • Overnight at Coconut Groove Beach Resort: https://coconutgrovehotelsghana.com/beachhotel/

WED APRIL 22: CAPE COAST [B/L/D]

• Optional: Wake-up to see fishing boats launch at 6:30am • Breakfast at hotel • Group divides for site visits and volunteer work: o Group A visit Sanford Clinic A (Cape Coast) o Group B visit Sanford Clinic B (Mankessim) • Lunch at local restaurant • Relax at the beach, visit the St. George Castle (also sometimes called Castle), recognized by UNSESCO as a World Heritage Site and the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea • Dinner at the hotel • Overnight at Coconut Groove Beach Resort

THU APRIL 23: CAPE COAST [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • Group A visit Sanford Clinic B • Group B visit Sanford Clinic A • Lunch at local restaurant • Visit Kakum National Park; observe elephants, monkeys and elusive bongo antelopes, which roam amongst 800 rare species of birds, butterflies, reptiles and amphibians • Dinner in the hotel • Overnight at Coconut Groove Beach Resort

FRI APRIL 24: CAPE COAST – ACCRA [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • Return to Accra • Lunch with UCEAP local staff followed by a visit to University of Ghana, tour the medical school, attend a lecture, and meet our UC students • Afternoon at leisure, dinner at the hotel • Overnight at La Palm Royal Beach Resort

• Breakfast at hotel • Morning at leisure • UCEAP 50th Gala Diner and Celebration • Overnight at La Palm Royal Beach Resort

SUN APRIL 26: ACCRA – DEPART FOR USA [B/L/D]

• Breakfast at hotel • Morning at leisure • Lunch at local restaurant • In the afternoon, do some last minute souvenir shopping and explore on your own • Transfer to the airport to catch your flight home!
