(iii) INTRODUCTION I, the Chairperson of the Committee on Government Assurances, having been authorized by the Committee to submit the Report on their behalf, present this Thirty-sixth Report of the Committee on Government Assurances. 2. The Committee (2013-2014) at their sitting held on 17 December, 2013 considered Memoranda Nos. 2 to 41 containing requests received from the Ministries/Departments for dropping of pending assurances and decided to drop 23 assurances. 3. At their sitting held on 06 February, 2014 the Committee (2013-2014) considered and adopted their Thirty-sixth Report. 4. The Minutes of the aforesaid sittings of the Committee form part of this report. (v) REPORT While replying to Questions in the House or during discussions on Bills, Resolutions, Motions, etc., Ministers sometimes give assurances, undertakings or promises either to consider a matter, take action or furnish information to the House at some later date. An assurance is required to be implemented by the Ministry concerned within a period of three months. Where a Ministry is unable to implement the assurances within the prescribed period of three months, they are required to seek extension of time. In case, the Ministry finds it difficult to implement the assurances on one ground or the other, they are required to request the Committee on Government Assurances to drop the assurances and such requests are considered by the Committee on merits and decisions taken to drop an assurance or otherwise. 2.     25/09/2013 Stolen `Yogini` returns, see her at National Museum STolen 'Yogini' returns, see her at National Museum New Delhi: Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid Thursday inaugurated an exhibition in the national capital celebrating the homecoming of a stolen 10th-century stone sculpture of the Yogini. The 4.5-foot tall Vrishanana Yogini -- the nearly 400-kg stone sculpture of a female deity with the buffalo-shaped head, estimated to be over 1,000 years old -- was stolen from a temple in Lokhari village in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. It was trafficked to France, where a private art collector, Robert Schrimpf, acquired it. The man`s widow, Martine, donated it to the Indian embassy in Paris in 2008. "India will step up its efforts to bring back artefacts that have been illicitly trafficked out of the country," Khurshid said, while he jointly with the culture minister inaugurated the exhibition "Return of the Yogini", at the National Museum. "We should bring back our stolen antiquities. The government will provide all the support in the endeavour," he added. "It takes a lot of effort to ensure the return of pilfered antiquities," Khurshid said, hailing the sustained endeavour of the Indian embassy in Paris and the National Museum to bring the `Yogini` sculpture back home.     India - Trinidad and Tobago Relations Historical Perspective: Relationship between India and Trinidad & Tobago goes back to 30 May 1845 when the first ship ‘Fatel Razack’ carrying 225 Indian indentured workers reached the shores of Trinidad, then a British colony. Their numbers increased with subsequent arrival of more ships from India. The descendents of those indentured workers, now in their fifth generation, form nearly 42% of the total population constituting an integral part of the economic, political and social fabric of the country. The presence of a substantial population of Indian origin (the largest ethnic group) has contributed immensely to close bilateral relations between the two countries. Visit of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to India in January 2012 : Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar (KPB) paid a State visit to India from 5-14 January 2012. PMKPB was accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising 7 Cabinet Ministers and a 160-member strong delegation from the private and public sectors besides representatives from tertiary institutions and PSUs. During the visit a number of agreements and MOUs were signed. She was also Chief Guest at PBD 2012 in Jaipur and was conferred with the PBSA. Visit of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Trinidad & Tobago : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh led a high level delegation for CHOGM Summit in November 2009. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of T&T Dr. Keith C. Rowley met in London on April 19, 2018 on the sidelines of the CHOGM Summit and discussed various areas in which cooperation between the two friendly countries could be enhanced further.
