Introduction
It seems that many Japanese companies have recently accelerated the overseas production transfer and diversification of supplier sources in Asian countries besides China in a strategic trend of so-called “China Plus One”. For Japanese companies, Pakistan may be a country with low attention compared with other Asian countries so far, due to geographically far distance and some security issues. However, we believe that the time has come to you to reconsider Pakistan as the 4th-largest cotton producing country with population of 180 million, which belongs to NEXT 11 following BRICS.
Until now, you may face some difficulties of collecting appropriate information in Japan about Pakistani business and companies although you are interested to know more. Taking consideration of such circumstance, we, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), are pleased to introduce this introduction summary of Pakistani exporters for Japan to you with assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
TDAP considers five categorized products as strategically major target items for exporting to Japan, i.e. Textile Products ( home textile and denim related garments, especially), Leather &Leather Products, Agricultural & Marine Products, Surgical Instruments, and Sports Goods. In these target items, we have selected promising exporters for Japan from the following criteria: 1) ones top-ranked of each target item based on a statistic list of Pakistani exporters having business with Japan, 2) ones exhibited in Pakistan EXPO, and 3) ones recommended by industrial parties concerned. This booklet introduces promising exporters selected by the above criteria with priority of those which accepted TDAP’s interview.
Although this is our first attempt to publish for Japan, it would be our pleasure if this booklet would help you to consider more business deals with our exporters positively. 3) Attractiveness and Merits on Business with Pakistan
1. People in Pakistan are Japan friendly, and they have good impressions on Japanese companies also, generally speaking. In addition, many people prefer Japanese products, for example, most of cars in Pakistan are Japanese cars.
2. Since English is the official language of the country, business can be carried out in English.
3. Most of Pakistani companies are taking sincere attitude on business, and tricky companies such as cheating customers are relatively few.
4. New Government is undertaking economic reforms seriously, and they maintain political stability also. The security issues are gradually improved recently.
5. Doing business with Pakistan may lead you to opportunities of entering huge and emerging domestic consumer market of the country with population of 180million.
6. Pakistan can provide price competitive products to foreign customers with their abundant and low cost natural resources and labor force.
7. With rich natural resources, Pakistan can produce and supply raw materials such as cotton, minerals, and agricultural products within the country.
8. Pakistan is the 4th largest cotton producing country. With abundant and good quality cotton production, there are a lot of textile companies which have vertically integrated textile production from raw material to finished products, and they can provide stable supply of textile products with good quality and low price.
9. There are a lot of Pakistani textile companies which have imported Japanese art of state textile machineries to produce cotton yarns and fabrics from old time until now. This is one of reasons why quality of their textile products is good and acceptable.
10. Many Pakistani textile companies have exported their home textile products, denim garments, or knitted apparel wears to famous brand companies in USA and European countries. Most of them have excellent qualities and designs.
11. Pakistan is the 3rd largest leather producing country, following China and India. Its quality has been highly reputed, and their competitive advantages on quality and price are largely improved recently. In addition, many Pakistani leather companies have exported their leather garments such as leather jackets to famous brand companies in USA and European countries.
12. Pakistan has abundant agricultural and seafood resources, and its fruit products are highly reputable. Especially, Pakistan is one of top10 mango producing countries, and Chaunsa and Sindri of Pakistani mango are allowed to be imported in Japan. These mangoes are famous for sweeter and richer taste compared with other foreign mangoes. Some other processed foods such as dry fruits also have a good potential for further export.
13. As for seafood, frozen natural shrimps are exported to Japan and other Asian countries with good reputation. Frozen ribbon fish, cuttle fish, and shell meats are also exported to Asian countries.
14. Sialkot in Pakistan has been famous for cluster of manufacturing metal equipments or precision products such as surgical instruments with long history as well as Solingen in Germany. They have good reputation on quality and price. Recently, some of manufacturers started supplying industrial tools to Japanese customers also.
15. Pakistan is one of the largest producing countries for sports goods such as footballs, gloves, etc. Many Pakistani sports goods companies have good reputation on quality and price, and exported famous brand companies in all over the world including Japan.

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) was established in November, 2006 under Ministry of Commerce as its administrative ministry. TDAP is the successor organization to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and is mandated to have a holistic view of global trade development.
