The Scouts Australia Educational Proposal – Version 3 (2019) Describing how our youth program, a non-formal program of personal development for children, adolescence, and young adults, is complementary to formal education. It sets the scene for the context in which we operate, including describing the needs, desires, opportunities, and challenges facing 21st Century young Australians, and Scouting’s role in preparing young people to be active citizens. This is the third edition of Scouts Australia’s Educational Proposal. The first edition was made available for download in mid-2016, and the second in 2018. 3rd Epsom (St.Martin’s) Scout Group Welcome Pack Welcome Your daughter or son has shown an interest in the joining one of the sections of the 3rd Epsom Scout Group. We are a large group in the Epsom and Ewell District and pride ourselves on the inclusiveness and friendlessness of each of the sections. All sections have both girls and boys. This document hopes to answer some of the questions you may have about Scouting and the 3rd Epsom Scout Group. As with all Scout Groups all of the leaders are volunteers and they give up their time free of charge. The Group consists of four Sections: a Beaver Colony (ages 5 ¾ – 8) who meet Thursday evenings between 5.00 and 6.00pm a Cub Pack (ages 8 – 10 ½) who meet Thursday evenings between 6.15 and 7.45pm a Scout Troop (ages 10 ½ – 14) who meet Thursday evenings between 7.15 and 9.00pm a Explorer Unit (ages 14 – 18) who meet Thursday evenings between 7.15 and 9.00pm We meet in our own Scout Headquarters (HQ) behind the St John Chandler Hall (Bright Horizons Nursery) off Church Road in Epsom and also in the Forge behind the building (Post Code: KT17 4AB). The Diversity and Inclusion Workgroup was established and tasked to gather a ‘current status’ report of the Rover Scout Section and further Rovers who are LGB or T 22 recommend actions to be taken by the SABRC. Women and Rovers 24 The Workgroup then looked into the issues surrounding the current status of the Section in regard to its make up and diversity, and found that while the Section was open to anyone, it’s make up lacked Leaders under-26 25 diversity of cultures, languages and experiences. Research and recommendations then turned to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, Multiculturalism, Special Needs, LGBT+, Women, Leaders under-26, Rural and Regional Rovers 26 and Rural and Regional Rovers, where a variety of diverse and wide ranging outcomes and ideas were developed and matured. Leaving the Section 27 Upon looking at the potential different sectors of society and culture within the Section, the workgroup Religion, Spirituality and the Rover Scout Section 28 then looked at structural and organisational changes that may need to be considered by the Section and ultimately the Branch. -

Many thanks to Brendan Watson, Jon Willis, and the rest of the outgoing State Leadership Team for their fantastic work over the past six years; you’ve left a solid foundation for my new team to build on. That building has already begun! As a State Leadership Team, we have a list of focal priorities that really emphasise our Scouting passions. Growth We’re aiming for 14 years of growth. We want all Being your best self Groups to have all five Sections and we want to develop new Groups in the growth corridors. We would like to better support Leaders to Why? Because we think Scouting helps develop be the best they can be; not only because better young people, and that means better it’s better for our own health, but also, we can communities, and a better Victoria. -
