News and Notices THE VERY REVD DR STEPHEN HANCE, OF DERBY is leaving Derby to take up a new role as National Lead for Evangelism and Witness for the , based at Church House in Westminster. Today is the Dean’s last Sunday at the Cathedral; he is preaching at the 10.45am Eucharist and officiating at Evensong. Bishop Libby is presiding at the Cathedral Eucharist this morning, and a presentation will be made to Stephen and Jacqui at the end of the service. Please keep them in your prayers as they say farewell to Derby Cathedral and during this time of transition. THE SANCTUARY at Derby Cathedral is offering a selection of homemade dishes this Sunday, including homemade lasagne and homemade vegan dishes, starting from £5.95. Why not come and join us for a delicious lunch after the service? The CATHEDRAL BELLS will be rung from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm this afternoon in memory of John Heaton, for many years Tower Captain. John sadly died earlier this month; details of his funeral will be published later. CATHEDRAL CARPARK From 3rd September (this Tuesday) payment in the Cathedral carpark will be by card only. This protects the staff and reduces bank charges. All major credit and debit cards will be accepted. TOWER CLIMBS On Saturday 7th September there will be Tower Climbs at 11.40am, 12.40pm and 1.40pm. Come and join us to climb the 189 steps to see the glorious views of Derby city and Derbyshire! Children must be aged 8 and above. Tickets available from The Sanctuary priced £8 for adults and £5 for children. THE BRIDGE CHAPEL PATRONAL FESTIVAL, the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will be celebrated at the Bridge Chapel on Saturday 7th September with Choral Evensong at 5.15pm, sung by the Derby Choristers and Sunday 8th September at the 9.15am Sung Eucharist. On Saturday before Evensong you are invited to a Festival Tea from 3.45pm in the Sanctuary. Tea is £5 and should be booked in advance through The Sanctuary. All are very welcome. THE JULIAN GROUP is a small ecumenical group, affiliated to the nationwide Julian Meetings, and meets regularly to spend an hour in meditation. All are welcome. The special price for those who sign up is now £7.50 for a traditional one course lunch followed by tea or coffee. MOONRISE is nearly here - the Museum of the Moon arrives on 16th September for three weeks. VOLUNTEERS are needed for morning, afternoon and evening slots (6pm - 9pm) to help welcome visitors to the Cathedral and the Moon artwork. A fact sheet and training will be provided. Viv Lawrence our Education Officer is resourcing for Science visits during the visit of the Museum of the Moon. She wants to know if anyone has any marbles they may be able to donate. Different sizes would be ideal – even golfballs. They will become part of a workshop looking at craters and how they are formed by objects impacting the moon. They can be dropped off at The Sanctuary counter. QUIZ EVENING The Social Committee presents a Quiz Evening at 7pm on Saturday 12th October, in the Beddoes Room. Tickets £5 for adults and £3 for children. Everyone is very welcome. Tickets available from the Cathedral Wardens or members of the Social Committee – to find one, ask a steward.
