  • BOSTON BRUINS OFFSEASON QUOTES GENERAL MANAGER DON SWEENEY and HEAD COACH BRUCE CASSIDY Thursday, April 27, 2017
BOSTON BRUINS OFFSEASON QUOTES GENERAL MANAGER DON SWEENEY AND HEAD COACH BRUCE CASSIDY Thursday, April 27, 2017 BOSTON BRUINS GENERAL MANAGER DON SWEENEY AND HEAD COACH BRUCE CASSIDY END-OF-SEASON PRESS CONFERENCE Opening statement from Don Sweeney… DS: First off, I want to thank everybody for joining us today. The Bruins are very excited to be naming Bruce Cassidy the 28th head coach of the Boston Bruins. Despite the season abruptly ending on Sunday, I felt very comfortable moving forward quickly to name Bruce the head coach. I think that, to tell you the truth, I think Bruce summarized it very well the other morning. When we sat down and finalized it, when I said congrats, he said, ‘that’s good, because that was a long, hard interview.’ I think that the way our team responded to his message – we had an aggressive bent to our game. We scored more goals, we didn’t lose defensive structure and our foundation, our penalty kill remained to be top in the league, and our power play got better as the season went along. To me, it spoke to the change that our team responded to, that our core players responded to, and our young players responded to. I felt very comfortable moving forward that I felt Bruce would do a great job. Overall, I think our staff did a very good job. We have a lot of work to do as an organization, still. We want to become a deeper, more talented team from top to bottom. Taking one step forward, in my opinion, is not successful.

  • Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators Vs. Minnesota Wild
Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators vs. Minnesota Wild Predators Quotes Head Coach Peter Laviolette On if he felt as though the team has improved with every passing game… There were some good things that we did and the wins are the biggest things. It’s also early in the season and we are trying to get our game in order, and hopefully we will continue to get better. On if he thought his systems were effective tonight… I thought we did what we needed to do during the course of the game. When it came down to the last 12 minutes it wasn’t about scoring a goal anymore – it was about making sure we were defending. We had a couple of holes in there and when we did, Pekka (Rinne) made some big saves. They (Minnesota) have a lot of fire power coming at them, especially their top two lines. We just need to make sure we are doing the right things defensively and I think our guys did that for the most part. On what he thought of Mattias Ekholm’s game tonight… I think he is one of the most underrated offensive defensemen in the League. It’s the skating for me that drives his engine – he has a skill level, he sees the game and he has good offensive instincts. He can really pound his legs up the ice and his goal was a perfect example of that. I thought he had a very strong game. On how he thinks Ryan Johansen has evolved as a playmaker… I think he has always been a playmaker.

  • Injuries Continue to Plague Jets Seven Wounded Players Missed Saturday's Game
Winnipeg Free Press https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/injuries-continue-to-keep-jets-in-sick- bay-476497963.html?k=QAPMqC Injuries continue to plague Jets Seven wounded players missed Saturday's game By: Mike McIntyre WASHINGTON — Is there a doctor in the house? It’s been a common refrain for the Winnipeg Jets lately, as they just can’t seem to get close to a full, healthy lineup. Seven players were out due to injury in Saturday’s 2-1 loss in Philadelphia. Here’s what we know about all of them, with further updates expected today as the Jets return to action with a morning skate and then their game in Washington against the Capitals. Mark Scheifele has missed two games with a suspected shoulder injury, and there will be no rushing him back into action. He’s considered day-to-day at this point, and coach Paul Maurice had said last week he was a possibility to play either tonight, or tomorrow in Nashville. But don’t bet on it. Defenceman Toby Enstrom is battling a lower-body issue which kept him out for four games, saw him return in New Jersey last Thursday and then be back out on Saturday. Maurice said it’s a nagging thing that can change day-to-day, so his status is very much a question mark. Defenceman Dmitry Kulikov missed Saturday’s game after getting hurt Thursday in New Jersey. Maurice hasn’t said how long he could be out, only that it’s upper-body. Goalie Steve Mason has been sent back to Winnipeg for further testing on a lower-body injury he suffered late in the game against the New York Rangers last Tuesday, which was his first game back from his second concussion of the season.
