Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) 27th January, 2018 Where No Sound Is Heard

It is little wonder that so many people seek communion with God the father. People living the solitude of walks and treks on the sea alone and in isolation will find some comfort shore or other outer spaces in quest of by the fact that they are free from the hassle solitude. Confucius once said ‘it is good to of the world beyond. listen to solitude’. Nelson Mandela in the Psychologists tell us, that the quiet hours of quietness of his prison cell claims ‘he found sleep are necessary for one’s well being and God’ which helped him during the twenty- they further recommend periods of quiet and seven years of isolation in prison in South rest. Important also is the time that people Africa. engage with family members especially when they feel depressed or downtrodden. Going back in history ancient monks and mystics receded to quiet places to study, reflect and pray. It was from that kind of solitude they felt the voice of God speaking to them in diverse ways. Pilgrimages are very much part of our Christian way of life when we consider Lourdes, Knock, Fatima, Medjugorje. Muslims also conduct an annual pilgrimage to Mecca. People when they go on pilgrimage can relate to their experience of that kind of engagement and relish the richness and healing power that it brings. ‘What is this life if full of care, We have no time to stand and stare Not to discount the example of Christ himself A poor life this if full of care we have no time when he went to a lonely place to pray in to stand and stare’ Fáilte-Bienvenue-Willkomen-Benvenuto-Bienvenido-Witajcie-Bemvindo- Welkom-Velkomin-Vitejte-Karibu-Croeso-Valkommen-Tervetuloa-Welcome
