Week 9: November 1st Week 13 & 14: Dec. 6th and Dec. 13th CO2 powered car EOV Gingerbread

Like the week 5 exercise, they will build another cardboard We will be making a gingerbread house and modeling car to race but this time it will be fueled with CO2 power it after the EOV Rec Center. One group will make the (mentos and soda). They will race these outdoors, as Ms. building, one will make parking lots, one will make ball Dana would kill us all otherwise. fields, one will make playgrounds, and one will make the pier, water, and shelters. Basically, this will be a scaled down model of what EOV looks like using edible Week 10, 11, 12 (Nov. 8, Nov. 15, Nov. 29) stuffs. This will then be used as a centerpiece for the Humpty Dumpty Experiments Part 1 EOV Christmas Cookies with Santa Celebration. Arts, engineering, and architecture will be the premise for this exercise. Ms. Humpty Dumpty wants her children to have the same experiences as all other kids. Ideally, she would like them to experience the slides on the playground. There are 5 slides that range from small, to bumpy, to spirally, to very steep. Her children have no arms or legs (after all they are just un-boiled eggs). Using recyclable materials, the students must devise safety gear for the “children of Ms. Dumpty” in which will allow them to move down the slides without breaking. Everything that is put on the eggs must be able to be removed without breaking the egg as well (so just wrapping with duct tape won’t work). This is engineering and thinking outside the box as its best. The students will document everything and will be expected to display their results to the public (civic league). Since there are 5 slides, each slide will be an individual experiment. Week 15: Dec. 20th Stained Glass

Using sugar and water, we will be working on the science of crystallization. We will make ornaments that can be anything the kids want, but in candy stained glass.

Week 16: Dec. 27th Density Tower
