Then he should slide about 10- (maybe) 90 meters to the title of the National Hockey League franchise of Detroit, the Red Wings, and their iconic winged logo wheels were inspired by the first team to win the Stanley Cup, the Montreal Amateur Sports Association winged Wheelers. The Origin of the Red Wings dates back to 1926, when Detroit won the NHL franchise. Because the team owners bought the Victoria Cougars list of the Western Hockey League, they named their young team the Detroit Cougars. Success was elusive in those early years, so the city newspapers held a competition to change the name. The winner was the Falcons, but the new name did not change the team's fate. In 1932, the team was bought by millionaire James Norris. As a young man, he played for the MAAA Winged Wheelers, which won the first Cup in 1893. MAAA was a sports club that sponsored many sports, including cycling, which was the origin of the winged wheel logo worn by all MAAA athletes. Norris thought the winged wheel was the perfect logo for Motor City, so a version of this logo in red was adopted and the club was renamed Red Wings. Coincidence or not, the new name and logo marked a turn in the fate of the team. The Detroit Red Wings made the playoffs in their first season. Subsequent logo updates also seemed to bring good luck. The Red Wings won their first Stanley Cup in 1936 after the original logo was redesigned. The final redesign debuted in the 1948-49 season. The Red Wings made it to the Stanley Cup Finals this season and won the Cup the following season. This logo is still in use today. The Red Wings play in the Atlantic Division of the NHL Eastern Conference and are one of the most successful teams in NHL history. In a league that has its roots firmly in Canada, the Detroit team has won more Stanley Cups than any other team based in the U.S. Their 11 wins are second only to the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Red Wings dominated in the 1950s. Led by two great NHL players, right winger Gordy Howe and goalie Terry Savczuk, Detroit won the Stanley Cup four times, in 1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955. After a decade-and-a- half slump, the Red Wings returned to the top. Led by the legendary Scotty Bowman's Red Wings win Stanley Cup in a row 1997-98. The Wings won again in the 2001/02 and 2007/08 seasons. The Red Wings set a record for the 2011/12 season by winning 23 home games in a row. They also tied for the third-longest playoff appearance streak, with HavivIng playing in the postseason for 25 consecutive years. This series ended the 2016/17 season. The Society of Red Wing Collectors offers a free estimate of the value of Red Wing ceramics, usually as a range of valuables. The actual value of the work depends largely on factors such as its rarity, condition and reasonable sale price. The society encourages Red Wing Pottery owners to contact the organization by email, including detailed descriptions and photos of the item. The Society of Red Wing Collectors includes experts in three areas of the company's pottery, through 2015. Art utensils, utensils and utensils from many incarnations of Red Wing Pottery are processed separately, evaluated by each group of experts. Responses to information requests usually include the range of dates that have been made, its identification, as well as its rarity and possible meanings. Red wing utensils, utensils and pottery pieces have been produced continuously since the company was founded in 1861 by John Paul, headquartered in Red Wing, Minnesota. The company has changed its name and configuration several times from its original formation to 1936, often twisting subsidiaries that have been reabsorbed into the main company. The company's penultimate incarnation, Red Wing Dinnerware, produced works from 1936 to 1967, when a workers' strike shut down the company's production and it was reformed as a retail outfit. The production of ceramics began again in 1996. • An Empowering New Art Program Takes Flight at the Wing
An Empowering New Art Program Takes Flight at the Wing The exclusive women’s club is shining a spotlight on established and emerging female artists with its new Salon program. By Angela M.H. Schuster On June 22, 2018 With its rose-hued walls and girl-power programming, the Wing has become something of a legend in its own time. Since the club first opened in Manhattan’s Flatiron District in 2016, it has been regularly revered, occasionally mocked (all that pink!), and even investigated by a human rights group for its women- only policy. But the Wing, which now counts four locations in New York City and Washington, D.C., and is preparing to open two more outposts in California—both of which are decidedly less pink—later this year, is no doubt a net positive for professional women seeking a stimulating environment in which to work, network, learn, and socialize. And now, the formidable club is adding “cutting-edge gallery” to its laundry list of enriching services. Independent curator Lolita Cros has been tapped by the Wing cofounders Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan to provide yet another amenity for its members to enjoy: the option to explore—and buy—art by established and emerging artists right off the club’s walls. The concept is twofold, providing a platform for underrepresented and emerging female artists, and exposing members to new and inspiring works that might just end up on their own walls at home. Muse recently spoke with Cros to chat about the program—and learn about her top female artists to watch.
