We look forward to bringing you 10 days of action-packed elite competition, including 4 World Cups, a Curling tournament featuring the new Olympic sport of Mixed Doubles and a head to head Alpine Dual Slalom race under lights at Coronet Peak. Since the inaugural Games of 2009, our vision of delivering one of the world’s best winter sports events has truly become a reality. I’m very proud to say that Winter Games NZ is now ranked amongst the top five events on the international winter sports circuit, and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. I would also like to congratulate the 19 incredible 2013 Winter Games NZ competitors who went on to win medals at the Sochi Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in February 2014, especially our own Corey Peters taking silver in the IPCAS Giant Slalom. We continue to work closely with Snow Sports New Zealand to provide a platform for homegrown talent to compete at the highest level and showcase their ability to the world. It was with great pride that I watched the largest Winter Olympic team New Zealand has ever produced chasing medals in Sochi. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters and especially our army of fantastic volunteers without whom the Games simply could not happen.
