There will be changes in the coaching staff, however, as Bernard Clark will come in to take over as defensive coordinator and Cordell Taylor will return to the program as defensive backs coach. On the offensive side of the ball, Rose will bring in former Liberty quarterback Glen Ferebee as the offensive coordinator, replacing Earnest Wilson III. Former Pirate Ataveus Cash will return to his alma mater as wide receivers coach. Offense The Pirates will be without their top rusher from last season; Jeremiah Schwartz led the MEAC in rushing in 2012, averaging 115.9 yards per game on the ground, and he became the first Pirate since LaMarcus Coker in 2009 to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season. But the Pirates do bring back running back Antwon Chisholm (Sr., 5-9, 190, Belle Glade, Fla.), who averaged 5.4 yards per carry last season, and quarterback Brian Swain (So., 6-0, 180, Laredo, Texas), who in limited action last season averaged 4.6 yards per rush and 41.0 yards on the ground per game. Swain is also the team’s top returning passer, having completed 23 of 43 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown; his efficiency rating as a freshman was 100.86. Quarterback Jaylian Williamson (So., 5-9, 175, Chesapeake, Va.) completed 20 of 33 passes last season for 209 yards and a score. The Pirates also return their top receiver from last season, as Andre Griffin (r-Jr., 6-1, 180, Hampton, Va.) will look to add to last season’s 25-catch, 311-yard performance. Griffin averaged 38.9 receiving yards per game last season, and he found the endzone twice. Rayshad Riddick (So., 5-9, 180, Portsmouth, Va.) will also be on the receiving corps, coming off a 2012 season in which he caught 24 passes for 255 yards – an average of 28.3 yards per game. The Pirates had a young offensive line in 2012, but that line helped Hampton rush for 148.1 yards per game last season (fifth in the MEAC). Kory Alpichi (Jr., 6-2, 280, Winchester, Calif.) will anchor the line after playing in all 10 games last season – making nine starts. Ronald Rose (Jr., 6-4, 278, Fort Washington, Md.) and Christopher Scott (Jr., 6-5, 335, Mimi, Fla.) each saw action in six games last season and will look to add experience to the line. Defense With Bernard Clark Jr. taking over as defensive coordinator for the Pirates, and linebacker Lyndell Gibson having graduated, linebacker Delbert Tyler (Sr., 5-11, 225, Monroeville, Pa.) will take over more of the responsibilities 2013 Hampton PIrates Football 2 www.hamptonpirates.com HAMPTON FOOTBALL behind the defensive line. Tyler is the team’s top returning tackler, coming off a 2012 season that saw him rack up 80 tackles and 12 tackles for loss. Matthew Davis (Sr., 6-3, 245, Chesapeake, Va.) will also return to the linebacking corps, coming off a 2012 season where he was eighth on the team in tackles with 37 tackles – and third on the team with 12 tackles for loss. Denzel Heath (So., 5-11, 210, Charlotte, N.C.) was 10th in tackles last season with 27. Kambrell McGee (r-Jr., 5-10, 185, Miami, Fla.) is Hampton’s top returner in the defensive backfield after ranking ninth in the team with 32 tackles last season. He also tied for the team lead – with Gibson and Aaron Matthews (r-So., 5-11, 185, Hampton, Va.) – last season with two interceptions, and had three pass breakups. Matthews also had 19 tackles last season. Tackle Alveron Wright (So., 6-3, 245, Lake Hamilton, Fla.) will anchor the defensive line, coming off a 2012 season in which he had 26 tackles and recovered a fumble. Tackle Terrell Stewart (So., 6-3, 335, Bowie, Md.) will also return to the Pirates’ defensive line, as will defensive end Miles Grooms (So., 6-4, 245, Richmond, Va.). Special Teams The Pirates will have a new punter and placekicker in 2013, as special teams coordinator Michael Villagrana will look to replace Taurean Durham and Jordan Stovall – the latter having been a two-time All-MEAC selection at punter. Anthony Prevost (r-Fr., 5-6, 160, Chesterfield, Va.) and Adam Brown (Fr., 5-9, 170, Cincinnati, Ohio) will share the kicking duties this season, and Christian Faber-Kinney (r-Fr., 6-1, 205, Williamsburg, Va.) will handle the punting. Dylan Kerns (Jr., 5-11, 205, Palm Beach, Fla.) returns as the team’s long snapper. Hampton does, however, return its top kick returner from 2012, as Jorrian Washington (Jr., 5-9, 165, Los Angeles, Calif.) ran back 12 kicks for 419 yards (34.9 yards per return) – including a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the season opener at Tennessee Tech. Chisholm also returned 16 kicks for 377 yards last season, averaging 23.6 yards per return. Matthews was the team’s top punt returner in
