Then read on to find out how your birth children and young person you are caring for can take part in this amazing opportunity to be a part of the new Cooks & Kids book and a chance to cook with one of our top professional chefs, such as Gregg Wallace, John Torode, Marcus Wareing, Chris Lee and John Woodward. All proceeds of the book go to Place2Be; providing young children with emotional and therapeutic services. 6 Get involved Cooks & Kids is a great project to be involved with. The talent of these children is outstanding • Cook with one of our top professional chefs Gregg Wallace • Have your recipe published • See your name and photo (where possible) in print • Help others through the sale of the book Following the growing success of the first two Cooks & Kids recipe books for children; we are currently calling all 5-18 year old children to enter this years’ National Fostering Agency Group (NFAG) Cooks & Kids recipe competition. If you have a birth child or young person you are caring for that is interested in cooking, why not share this competition with them to give them the opportunity to have their recipe published in the new third edition of Cooks & Kids recipe book. For this new book we are pleased to announce that Gregg Wallace, presenter of Masterchef and many other well known TV programmes has teamed up with us to make this new recipe book a success. We are aiming to have this in the shops by December – making it an excellent Christmas gift! But we can’t do it without you and your kids help! So, Kids, here's what you've got to do: Create a new recipe Take a photo, if possible, of or a version of your Step 2 your dish and show it off at its Step 1 favourite recipe that best! Make sure you’ve got you would cook for enough light to photograph friends and family. everything. Write up your recipe. Here are a few pointers to consider: Ingredients: Please list all ingredients and measurements (e.g. by naming the ingredient and stating the quantity e.g. 85g self-raising flour, 2 eggs etc. Please use metric measurements). Step 3 Equipment: State the main pieces of equipment that will be used e.g. 16cm round cake tin, 1 litre pudding mould. Instructions: Break down the task into steps and number them e.g. 1. Put flour and butter into bowl and rub together until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs. Where the recipe requires cooking, state the temperature of the oven, where applicable and the required cooking time. Complete this recipe submission form in full (you may need the help of a grown up). Make sure to include any handy cooking tips or ideas too. Step 4 Then, please ask your foster carer, parent or Local Authority, to sign your completed Recipe Form, which validates that it is your own work. It is fully understood that dependent on your age and capabilities you may need assistance when using the oven or when using sharp implements such as knives. Uxbridge, Middlesex UB82AE www.cooksandkids.com The closing date for recipes to be considered is 22nd April 2016. 2 Cooking Tips • Make sure all surfaces and equipment are clean before you start preparing your recipe and try to keep them clean! • Make sure that you have all the equipment and ingredients you need before you start. • Do weigh all your ingredients. • Save plastic, cartons and cans for recycling. • Use a spoon, and not your fingers, to taste food. • Our younger cooks must have the help of an adult where appropriate e.g. when using sharp knives and taking dishes in and out of a hot oven. Recipes can be submitted by birth children and children being cared for within NFA Group. Our editorial panel will review all recipe submissions received. Once our chefs have chosen the recipes for the third book, the children of the chosen recipes will be notified in writing, during May 2016. We would like to include photographs of the children who have created the recipes, along with one of our celebrity chefs that will be helping with this exciting project. So we will also be confirming your availability for photos sessions taking place on the 12th, 19th June and the 3rd July 2016. The information required must be completed and signed by the foster carer/parent validating that it is the child’s own work. • Recipes must be written in English, and submitted in legible writing, and where possible, accompanied by a photograph of the completed dish. • All recipes received will be considered for inclusion. • All recipes submitted will become property of NFA Group and associated companies and may be published in any NFA Group publication including Cooks & Kids.
