05 Programme in Detail 01 Messages from NCAA 2021 Chairs

Dear Guests and colleagues of the NCAA 2021,

Neural computing and artificial intelligence (AI) have become the hottest topics in recent years. To promote multi-disciplinary development and application of neural computing, a series of NCAA conferences was initiated on the theme of “making academic research more practical”, to provide an open platform for academic discussions, industrial showcases, and basic training tutorials. This event mainly contains the papers accepted at the 2021 International Conference on Neural Computing for Advanced Applications (NCAA 2021). NCAA 2021 is organized by Nanfang College  Guangzhou, South China Normal University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Chongqing University, and Hefei University of Technology, and it was supported by Springer Nature Group. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the mainstream NCAA 2021 conference is turned into a hybrid event, with online and offline participants, in which people could freely connect to a live broadcast of the keynote speeches and presentations.

NCAA 2021 collates 54 high-quality papers that were selected for publication from among 144 submissions after double-blinded peer-review, which indicates that the acceptance rate of NCAA 2021 was less than 40%. These papers were categorized into 10 technical tracks: neural network theory and cognitive sciences; machine learning, data mining, data security and privacy protection, and data-driven applications; computational intelligence, nature-inspired optimizers, and their engineering applications; cloud/edge/fog computing, the Internet of Things/Vehicles (IoT/IoV), and their system optimization; control systems, network synchronization, system integration, and industrial artificial intelligence; fuzzy logic, neuro-fuzzy systems, decision making, and their applications in management sciences; computer vision, image processing, and their industrial applications; natural language processing, machine translation, knowledge graphs, and their applications; neural computing-based fault diagnosis, fault forecasting, prognostic management, and system modeling; and spreading dynamics, forecasting, and other intelligent techniques against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The authors of each paper in this event have reported their novel results of computing theory or application. These results cannot cover all aspects of neural computing and advanced applications, but we hope it will inspire insightful thoughts for readers and researchers. We continue to wish that more secrets of AI will be unveiled, and that academic research will find more practical applications. Many people contributed to making the conference possible and successful. Firstly, we thank all the authors who have considered NCAA 2021 for their submissions. We also thank the PC members for their evaluations that made possible the selection of the accepted papers. At last, we wish everyone stay healthy and safe.

Yours sincerely, Prof. Haijun Zhang, Prof. Zhi Yang, Prof. Zhao Zhang, Prof. Zhou Wu, and Prof. Tianyong Hao
