Rented Housing Locations with Guest Rooms October 2018 Rented housing locations with guest rooms Happy living for the years ahead Rented housing locations with guest rooms About Anchor guest rooms Our retirement properties for rent offer a range of shared facilities to complement each private residence including laundry and communal lounge areas, attractive gardens and often, a guest room that can be used by Anchor customers. If your location has a guest room and you would like friends or family to stay when they come to visit you, our guest rooms can be used for a small charge. Similarly, if you, as an Anchor customer, are visiting another Anchor housing location with a guest room, you may be able to stay for a small charge. Our rented housing guest rooms exist primarily to allow relatives to have somewhere to stay close to an Anchor customer who is ill. Therefore lettings are prioritised and should usually be for short duration ideally no more than seven days (unless there are exceptional circumstances). This means those visits made for leisure purposes can be cancelled at short notice, so as they are available for such eventualities. The size, décor and facilities offered by our guest rooms vary from location to location, but they usually feature twin beds. Guest room charges also vary and so you should contact the relevant Scheme Manager directly to discuss guest room facilities, charges, availability and to make a booking. Please note our guest rooms are no smoking and pets are not allowed. For more information about our guest room policy please contact the Scheme Manager at the relevant Anchor rented housing location. EDITORIAL Another year has come and gone, and we trust that 1989 will be a happy and prosperous one for all our members. If our Society is to continue to flourish, however, it is essential that more members should play an active part in running its affairs. Ken Brown, our Secretary since 1983 (and acting Programme Organiser for the last year), is resigning at the Annual General Meeting in May, and Irene Blackburn, who is responsible for the Members' Interests and Second Time Around sections of the Journal, will be giving up her position as Research Editor later in the year. We are very grateful to them both for all the work they have done on our behalf. In addition to these two posts, we are still short of a Programme Organiser. If you know of anyone who might be willing to take on any of these jobs please let Ken Brown know as soon as possible - otherwise the Society may come to a grinding halt. One of the most important events of 1988 as far as the Society was concerned was the publication of the long-awaited Directory of Members' Interests. Its production entailed a great deal of hard work on the part of those responsible, and it also placed a severe strain on the Society's finances. In view of the fact that it was initially offered free to members (only the cost of postage and packing being charged), the demand for copies was disappointingly small. Copies are still available, and although now priced £2.75 each (post free to addresses in the U.K.), they are very good value.

  • Northeast England – a History of Flash Flooding
Northeast England – A history of flash flooding Introduction The main outcome of this review is a description of the extent of flooding during the major flash floods that have occurred over the period from the mid seventeenth century mainly from intense rainfall (many major storms with high totals but prolonged rainfall or thaw of melting snow have been omitted). This is presented as a flood chronicle with a summary description of each event. Sources of Information Descriptive information is contained in newspaper reports, diaries and further back in time, from Quarter Sessions bridge accounts and ecclesiastical records. The initial source for this study has been from Land of Singing Waters –Rivers and Great floods of Northumbria by the author of this chronology. This is supplemented by material from a card index set up during the research for Land of Singing Waters but which was not used in the book. The information in this book has in turn been taken from a variety of sources including newspaper accounts. A further search through newspaper records has been carried out using the British Newspaper Archive. This is a searchable archive with respect to key words where all occurrences of these words can be viewed. The search can be restricted by newspaper, by county, by region or for the whole of the UK. The search can also be restricted by decade, year and month. The full newspaper archive for northeast England has been searched year by year for occurrences of the words ‘flood’ and ‘thunder’. It was considered that occurrences of these words would identify any floods which might result from heavy rainfall.

  • North East Inheritance
North East Inheritance Exhibition Catalogue 21 September – 16 October 2009 Palace Green Library 1 The North East Inheritance Project Durham University Library today holds some 150,000 probate records of 75,000 individuals from County Durham and Northumberland - the old Durham diocese - who lived between the early 16th century and the mid-19th century. With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, English Record Collections, Durham University and the Genealogical Society of Utah the North East Inheritance project has catalogued and digitally photographed the Durham diocese probate collection (1526- 1858). The collection will be made freely available online in 2010. Probate is the process of proving a will and of administering the estate of a deceased person. This process is today overseen nationally by the civil courts, but before 1858 probate business in England and Wales was administered in the main by ecclesiastical courts in a system of provincial, diocesan and special jurisdictions. In the natural course of several hundred years of this work substantial probate record collections have accumulated in various registries and archives. Making the Durham records available online and for free now offers to historians and genealogists an unsurpassed opportunity for study and discovery. This exhibition offers a selection of probate records from the Durham collection. These have been chosen to illustrate both the probate process and various typical document types, and also to illustrate a number of research topics for which probate records can provide important evidence. The plan of the exhibition topics is as follows. 1 Introduction p.3 2 Family History p.5 3 Local History p.9 4 Academic Use of Probate p.13 5 Death, Dying and Disposal p.17 6 Health and Medicine p.20 7 Plague p.23 8 The Wreck of the Palermo p.26 9 Trade and Industry p.28 10 Literacy and Education p.31 11 Enemies, Foreign and Domestic p.33 12 Northeasterners Abroad p.36 Will of Peter Trumbel of Gateshead, butcher.

  • Ethnicity in the North East an Overview
EthnicityNORTH EAST Ethnicity in the North East an overview NORTH EAST ASSEMBLY THE VOICE FOR THE REGION Ethnicity in the Acknowledgements North East I would like to acknowledge the help and guidance received from everyone I have contacted while compiling this guidance. I am particularly indebted to the staff of the Home Office Drugs Prevention Advisory Service, particularly Robert Martin Government Office for the North East and Deborah Burns and Karen Kirkbride, for their continuous support, advice and encouragement. Veena Soni Diversity Advisor Drugs Prevention Advisory Service 1 Ethnicity in the Foreword by Angela Eagle North East The Home Office has committed itself to promoting race equality, particularly in the provision of public services such as education, health, law and order, housing and local government; and achieve representative workforces in its services areas. We are also working hard to promote cohesive communities and deal with the issues that cause segregation in communities. One of the Home OfficeÕs seven main aims is to support strong and active communities in which people of all races and backgrounds are valued and participate on equal terms by developing social policy to build a fair, prosperous and cohesive society in which everyone has a stake. To work with other departments and local government agencies and community groups to regenerate neighbourhoods, to support families; to develop the potential of every individual; to build the confidence and capacity of the whole community to be part of the solution; and to promote good race and community relations, combating prejudice and xenophobia. To promote equal opportunities both within the Home Office and more widely and to ensure that active citizenship contributes to the enhancement of democracy and the development of civil society.
