A year go, at Easter, we were in first lockdown with an uncertain future and our churches well and truly shut. This year we are emerging from what turned out to be an unprecedented year - a year of separation, a year of major adjustments in our lives and for some a year of sorrow. But spring is the season of hope. From early February right through to May nature really shows us what hope looks like. New life is to THOUGHTS be seen everywhere – the early white snowdrops, the daffodils, the blossom, the trees beginning to show their new green apparel – all FROM THE symbols of the earth waking up to a new beginning. Easter Day this year is on Sunday, 4th April, so right in the middle of this frenzy of regeneration in the plant world. A resurrection, you might say, of things thought to be dead. That is the wonderful thing DESK OF... about our seasons – through them we are better able to fully appre- ciate the wonder of new life again and again and appreciate that with The Team newness comes hope. On the first Easter day the disciples of Jesus moved from despair to hope. They had lost a friend, a teacher, a special man who could per- VICAR form miracles, a man who stood up for those marginalised by society, who was an advocate for those whom society rejected. But on that first Easter Day their despair in losing him turned into joy when they met him again as the risen Lord. What they thought was the end was just the beginning – a new hope offered for all people. The Easter message is a hopeful one. Because he died for us, in Christ we can be made new - and not just at Eastertime but at anytime. No matter what has happened in our past, when we turn to Jesus as our Saviour we will find acceptance, comfort and forgive- ness. So this Easter let us give thanks for the doctors, the nurses, the scientists, the keyworkers and all those who have helped us through this challenging time, and acknowledge that in the risen Lord we have His glorious gift of new life and his offer of new beginnings again and again. Happy Easter from the churches of The Winterbournes and Compton Valence Yours in Christ Jean 4 V&V APR 21.indd 4 17/03/2021 08:38 CHURCH SERVICES during HOLY WEEK and ...
