Summary 1.1 This report summarises the outcome of legal proceedings taken by Regulation and Enforcement during the months of March and April 2018. 2. Recommendation 2.1 That the report be noted. Results 3.1 During the months of March and April 2018 the following cases were heard at Birmingham Magistrates Court, unless otherwise stated: . Three Licensing cases were finalised resulting in fines of £1,260 and prosecution costs of £1,268. 14 penalty points were issued and a total of 18 months driving disqualifications were imposed. 37 simple cautions were administered as set out in Appendix 1. 127 Environmental Health cases resulted in fines of £292,196. Prosecution costs of £43,959 were awarded. 9 months imprisonment suspended for 2 years, 12 months disqualification from driving and forfeiture of a vehicle. 4 months imprisonment suspended for 2 years, 4 months tagged curfew and 6 months disqualification from driving. Compensation for clean-up costs in the sum of £1,644 was awarded. One simple caution was administered as set out in Appendix 2. Three Trading Standards cases were finalised resulting in fines of £37,760 and prosecution costs of £12,316. Compensation in the sum of £7,577 was awarded. No simple cautions were administered as set out in Appendix 3.

HON. NICHOLAS RIDLEY MP SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT INTRODUCTION 1. In a letter dated 31 December 1979, Birmingham City Council requested us to undertake a review of their boundary with Solihull Metropolitaneorough in the vicinity of Kingsleigh Drive, Castle. Bromwich. The request resulted from a petition to the City Council from residents of the Birmingham part of Kingsleigh Drive requesting the Council to apply to us to move the Birmingham boundary to the A452, thereby bringing the whole of Kingsleigh Drive into Solihull. 2. We ascertained that the West Midlands County Council supported Birmingham City Council's request for a review in this area. Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council fully supported the review and felt that the boundary should'-be- moved to the M6 Motorway, the north-bound exit road at Junction 5 and the Newport Road, which they considered was the most obvious boundary between the two districts. 3. We examined the City Council's request in the light of section 48(5) of the T-T:II Government Act 1972. We concluded that although all three councils had agreed upon the need for a review it was desirable to have an agreed scheme from the two district authorities, if possible.

District Committee 16 March 2017 - Appendix 1 Hodge Hill Jobs and Skills Plan Produced Oct 15 Actions updated July 2016 & March 2017 Overview of Hodge Hill District 1 Hodge Hill District extends east from the city centre to the city boundary with Solihull. It is composed of 4 wards – Bordesley Green, Hodge Hill, Shard End and Washwood Heath. Significant parts of the district experiences some very challenging conditions in terms of labour market status, with very high levels of unemployment and worklessness . Hodge Hill District has a younger age profile to the city with a higher proportion of 0-15s and a smaller proportion of over 45s, and this is also true of all wards apart from Shard End. Overall, the proportion of working age adults (59%) is below the city average (64%). There are 12,674 residents aged 18-24 equating to 10% of the population, compared to 12 % for Birmingham. The ethnic profile of the working age population in the district differs to that of the city, with a much lower proportion of white working age residents (37%) compared to the city average (59%). But this masks ward variations, with the proportion only 13% in Washwood Heath, and 15% in Bordesley Green wards, but much closer to the city average at 46% in Hodge Hill ward. In contrast, 84% of Shard End residents are white. Overall, the largest non-white groups are Pakistani (38%) and Bangladeshi (5%). The Pakistani group forms over 50% of the population in Bordesley Green and Washwood Heath wards, but only 3% in Shard End ward.

JOINT STATEMENT FROM MOSQUES OF BIRMINGHAM From: The undersigned Birmingham Mosques & Islamic Organisations Date: 12th June 2020 Subject: Statement on Places of worship re-opening for individual prayer The UK Government has confirmed that Places of worship across England will be permitted to reopen for individual prayer from Saturday 13th June. Although individual prayer will be permitted, the guidance does not allow for communally led prayer, which is the main purpose of the mosque. For the Muslim community, this means that our mosques will have to remain closed for the five daily congregational prayers and Friday Jumuah prayer. The Muslim community is eager for the full reopening of the mosques for congregational prayer and we hope that we can stay on course for the original forecasted date of 4th July 2020, respecting that this will be dependent on the situation closer to the time. The Birmingham mosques are working with the BCC Public Health Department to ensure that the safety of our congregations and the public is at the forefront of any plans to fully reopen on the 4th July, and we are incorporating social distancing and other protective measures to prevent infection. The Muslim community has shown great patience over the past few months with the closure of the mosques, to help prevent the spread of infection and save lives.
