It seems that this was reflected in a deterioration in the ranking of Palestine internationally, as it was ranked in the 137th place in 2019 according to the Press Freedom Index issued by «Reporters Without Borders»1, three points down compared to 2018, when (Palestine) was ranked in the 134th place, noting that Tunisia remained at the forefront of the Arab countries in terms of press freedom, in the 72th palace, achieving a significant improvement by 25 points compared to 2018, while the ranking of all other Arab countries came at the bottom of this Index. î Violations of Media Freedoms in Palestine (2019) The general mainstream of violations against media freedoms in Palestine continued ascending during 2019. The pace of the rise exceeded what was documented in the year before 2018. This is because a new party is now involved in the violations, namely, the media freedoms violations. (IMEMC 27 June 2019) Israeli Arrests • Several armored Israeli military jeeps invaded Jenin city, Jenin refugee camp and Sielet al-Harithiyya town, in northern West Bank, searched and ransacked many homes, and detained four Palestinians, in addition to wounding many others during ensuing protests. The Entrance for Israeli Citizens is Forbidden, Dangerous to Your Lives, And Is Against The Israeli Law.” Anyone entering Ramallah through any of the Israeli military checkpoints that surround it, and surround its environs too, may note the abovementioned sentence written in white on a blatantly red sign, clearly written in three languages: Arabic, Hebrew, and English. The sign practically expires at Attara checkpoint, right after Bir Zeit city; you notice it as you leave but it only speaks to those entering the West Bank through the checkpoint. On the way from “Qalandia” checkpoint and until “Attara” checkpoint, the traveller goes through Qalandia Camp first; Kafr ‘Aqab second; Al-Amari Camp third; Ramallah and Al-Bireh fourth; Sarda fifth; and Birzeit sixth, all the way ending with “Attara” checkpoint, where the red sign is located. Practically, these are not Area “A” borders, but also not even the borders of the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, neither are they the West Bank borders. This area designated by the abovementioned sign does not fall under any of the agreed-upon definitions, neither legally nor politically, in Palestine. This area is an outsider to legal definitions; it is an outsider that contains everything. It contains areas, such as Kafr ‘Aqab and Qalandia Camp that belong to the Jerusalem municipality, which complies

    ISRAEL 2015 HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Israel is a multiparty parliamentary democracy. Although it has no constitution, the parliament, the unicameral 120-member Knesset, has enacted a series of “Basic Laws” that enumerate fundamental rights. Certain fundamental laws, orders, and regulations legally depend on the existence of a “state of emergency,” which has been in effect since 1948. Under the Basic Laws, the Knesset has the power to dissolve the government and mandate elections. The nationwide Knesset elections in March, considered free and fair, resulted in a coalition government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Civilian authorities maintained effective control over the security services. (An annex to this report covers human rights in the occupied territories. This report deals with human rights in Israel and the Israeli- occupied Golan Heights.) During the year according to Israeli Security Agency (ISA, also known as Shabak) statistics, Palestinians committed 47 terror attacks (including stabbings, assaults, shootings, projectile and rocket attacks, and attacks by improvised explosive devices (IED) within the Green Line that led to the deaths of five Israelis and one Eritrean, and two stabbing terror attacks committed by Jewish Israelis within the Green Line and not including Jerusalem. According to the ISA, Hamas, Hezbollah, and other militant groups fired 22 rockets into Israel and in 11 other incidents either planted IEDs or carried out shooting or projectile attacks into Israel and the Golan Heights. This is attributed to the significant increase in the number of Palestinian violations monitored in Gaza Strip, even though this was in parallel with a noticeable decrease in the number of Palestinian violations registered in the West Bank, while the number of Israeli violations remained at its high levels despite its relative decline, especially given the fact that Facebook closed dozens of pages and accounts of Palestinian journalists as a direct result of the understandings concluded by Israel with Facebook. The total number of Palestinian and Israeli violations and those committed by Facebook monitored by MADA during the first half of 2019 totaled to 300 attacks compared to a total of 277 attacks monitored during the same period of 2018, that is an increase of 53 violations, representing 19% than had previously been the case.
