PC.DEL/589/16 29 April 2016 ENGLISH only Statement On the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide and Aurora Prize Award delivered by Ambassador Arman Kirakossian at the 1098thMeeting of the OSCE Permanent Council April 28, 2016 Mr. Chairman, The Remembrance and Education of Genocide is an important part of the OSCE human dimension commitments and we would like to draw the attention of the Permanent Council to two events, Global forum against Genocide and Aurora prize award ceremony, which were held in Yerevan and got wide international attention and participation in the framework of the Armenian Genocide commemoration. The Second Global Forum on the Crime of Genocide, was held in Yerevan on April 23-24. The statement of the President of the Republic of Armenia at the Forum was distributed in the OSCE. The general heading of this year’s forum was “Living Witnesses of Genocide”. Participation of a number of survivors of genocides and other crimes against humanity in different parts of the world made the conference indeed a remarkable and at the same time inspiring event. Mr. Youk Chhang, survivor of Khmer Rouge terror and currently Executive Director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia, Nadia Murat, survivor of the Genocide of Yezidi people in Iraq, who endured torture and degrading treatment by ISIL Mr. Kabanda Aloys, survivor of Rwanda Genocide and currently the Administrator of the Ibuka Memory and Justice Association along with other participants shared their stories of suffering, struggle, gratitude and revival. The very presence of these people in itself bore the powerful message that genocide perpetrators never win. -

I CAN’T IMAGINE BETTER COMPANY ON THIS BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY MORNING IN ST. LOUIS. You’re church for me today, and there’s no congregation in the country where I would be more likely to find more kindred souls than are gathered here. There are so many different vocations and callings in this room — so many different interests and aspirations of people who want to reform the media — that only a presiding bishop like Bob McChesney with his great ecumenical heart could bring us together for a weekend like this. What joins us all under Bob’s embracing welcome is our commitment to public media. Pat Aufderheide got it right, I think, in the recent issue of In These Times when she wrote: “This is a moment when public media outlets can make a powerful case for themselves. Public radio, public TV, cable access, public DBS channels, media arts centers, youth media projects, nonprofit Internet news services … low-power radio and webcasting are all part of a nearly invisible feature of today’s media map: the public media sector. -

GOW LANGSFORD GALLERY ANTHONY GOICOLEA b. 1971, Cuba. Lives in New York, USA Although largely based in photography, Anthony Goicolea’s practice also includes drawing and video. Goi- colea gained international recognition in the late 1990s for his unsettling technique of arranging, within a single frame, photographic clones of himself in various poses. He has exhibited extensively in Europe and America, regularly in New Zealand since 2002, and in Asia. High- lights of his career include two recent solo exhibitions at La Galerie Particuliere in Paris (2013), the 2006 Cin- tas Fellowship, the 2005 BMW Photo Paris Award, as well as The Bronx Museum “Artist in the Market Place” program (1998), and the 1997 Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. Goicolea’s art is held in numerous significant public collections, including MoMA; The Guggenheim Museum of Art, New York; The Brooklyn Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; and the Centro Galego De Arte Contemporanea, in Santiago De Compostela, Spain. Goicolea graduated from the Pratt Institute of Art with an MFA in sculpture and photography in 1996, and from The University of Georgia with a BFA in 1994 and BA in 1992, both with magna cum laude. FIRST DEGREE KEY PRODUCTION PERSONNEL ROGER WEISBERG, Writer/Producer/Director Roger Weisberg joined public television station Thirteen/WNET New York in 1976. Since founding Public Policy Productions in 1982, Weisberg has written, produced, and directed 31 documentaries, which have won over 150 awards including Peabody, Emmy, and duPont-Columbia awards. Some of his films are vérité style documentaries with no narration, while others are narrated by prominent actors including Meryl Streep, Helen Hayes, and James Earl Jones, as well as distinguished journalists including Marvin Kalb and Walter Cronkite. Weisberg received an Academy Award nomination in 2001 for Sound and Fury and in 2003 for Why Can’t We Be A Family Again? JOHN FUGELSANG, Narrator and Host John Fugelsang is a New York-based political commentator, comedian, TV & radio personality, performer, and writer. He has appeared in the movie Coyote Ugly and on television programs such as CSI and Becker. He was the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos and has appeared frequently on news commentary shows on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, and NPR. He made over 20 appearances on Bill Mahr’s Politically Incorrect and is a regular on Fox News. Recently, Fugelsang was the host of Current TV’s daily show, Viewpoint, where he analyzed the news and facilitated conversations about current affairs.
