4 We are excited to welcome you to Memory Ranches’ 2015 biennial horse production sale. Over the years we have searched for and acquired the best bloodlines we could find from all over the country and we feel this year we are able to offer the nicest set of horses we have ever had. We hold this sale every other year, selling horses we have bred, raised, and trained here on the ranch. The horses are used in every aspect of ranch life, making them well rounded. We are a family owned and operated ranch located in West Central Idaho. We raise registered black and red Angus cattle as well as our horses. My wife, Merry, and I have seven children. Our oldest son, True, passed the bar this spring and has moved back to our area with his wife, Andrea, and their five children. We are hap- py to have them living close by. Harmony was married this past fall to Benjamin Wadsworth and they are now farming in Silver State Valley, Nevada. We are grateful that she was willing to pitch in doing our pho- tography, ads, and catalog. They are expecting their first baby this fall. Montica and her husband, Zack, are now near Bakersfield, California where he manages a large almond processing plant. She continues building custom chaps and chases two little children. Luke and his wife, Amber, just added a baby boy to their three girls this spring. He runs the red Angus cattle here and is the real initiator and overseer of the horse program. Lincoln helps out here on the ranch when he has a day off from working at a private boy’s school and his own farming. He and his wife, Kelsei, have had two children, a boy and a girl, since the last sale. Merrily has graduated from college and is here on the ranch with us, running her herd of longhorn cattle and helping wherever needed. She takes care of the website and keeps us all on track. Clancy is still on a mission for our Church and will be home in September. All of the family except Clancy will be home to help on sale day. We appreciate all their support and inter- est in the ranch. Horses are a big part of our lives, of our heritage, and of many special memories as a family. We hope they will continue to be so. We look forward to meeting you and talking to you on sale day. We hope we have a horse that fits your per- sonality and needs. Thank you, Monty and Merry Pearce

5 When Merry and I were married 43 years ago we were a couple of young kids with big dreams and no money. We dreamed of owning our own cattle and horse ranch someday, but in college they taught us that with the economy the way it was, unless you inherited it, you could never own a ranch. We discovered that the American dream can still be realized. Instead of furniture and everything our folks had, we bought one cow at a time until we built our registered herd. We now market 150 black and red Angus yearling bulls through private treaty each year. This is the 41st year that we have artificially inseminated our cow herd. We have selected for calving ease, growth, carcass, good udders, efficiency, and thus have achieved problem free cattle. We have avoided doing single trait selection and focused on balance. In 2014 we sent bulls to be tested for efficiency. Efficiency testing measures how many pounds of feed are needed to produce a pound of gain. This is the next area where genetic selection will easily effect profit as feed costs climb and we want to be at the forefront while maintaining our balanced problem free cattle. We have also purchased interest in a bull that converted at 3.9 pounds of feed per pound of gain while growing 5 pounds per day. Call us by December 1st to schedule a time to come and view the bulls.

“We calved 392 heifers this spring “I have shipped a lot of calves for that were bred to Memory Angus customers who use Memory Angus Ranch bulls. We checked them only Ranch bulls. The ranchers like the at feeding time. After calving was bulls and the buyers love the per- over we culled out 13 dry heifers. “ formance of the calves.” Jim Bentz, Rancher Jim Davis, Superior Rep

“I’ve been associated in production livestock my whole life and I have been buying bulls from Monty Pearce for 29 years. Pearce has Angus genetics better than anyone I’ve ever seen. Anything he’s ever told me is absolute truth. His cattle are what he says they’ll be. I managed the McEwen Ranch (2500 Cow Ranch) for 15 years. They were mediocre cattle. I started using Memory Ranch bulls and in four years of using them, the calves were top in the Winnemucca, Nevada video sale. I didn’t get up at night to check heifers for calving. If you’re a beginner just tell him what your cattle are and your goals and he can darn sure set you on the right path. Another factor that brought me back too was that his wife and daughters are darn good cooks!” Al Lowry, Rancher, 84 years old 6 Paul S. Lin Pennsylvania “Thank you for having done such an outstanding job of developing the Driftwood/ bloodline. The 7 Memory Ranch horses that my friends and I from Pennsylvania have purchased, have all been superb! They are the most ‘cowy’, athletic, ‘no bottom’, horses we could ever find. We team rope with them and they keep us competitive! Everyone now wants a horse with a MY brand!!”

Luis Prieto Chihuahua, Mexico “I have had lots of horses from different places in the US and also in Mexico. When I found these horses from Memory Ranches I was very satisfied. They are different from the rest and are very versatile with lots of athleticism. They are al- ways willing to rope or go to work. I have a degree in Horse Science and I think these horses are the real deal when it comes to roping.”

Barbara Hall California “I run 300 head of black Angus cows and it was ship- ping season shortly after I got Concho. He had just turned four. I remember loading him in the trailer in the pitch dark with a flashlight. He is so kind to do anything you want. He’s quiet. He’s cowy. He’ll hunt calves down in the pasture to do his job. He’s so sweet. There’s not a mean bone in his body. He’s the most super minded horse I’ve ever had. And he’s absolutely gorgeous! He’s got the mind to go with the looks. I’m 63 years old and I think I finally found the perfect horse!”

Chad and Paje Turner Turner Performance Horses “We really enjoyed our White Lightning Ike gelding. He was such a versatile and athletic horse. Won and placed at ropings and rodeos on both ends in the team roping, breakaway and calf roping. Hope to one day have another Memory Ranch gelding.” 7 8 9 Joe Reed Joe Reed II Joak Joe Reed P-3 was a great race horse with unbelievable heart. In the June 1948 issue of “The Quarter Horse”, House was quoted: “I never saw Joe start with a bunch of horses that he didn’t get right out in front and leave them on the jump. He had so much power when he started that he would spread his plates. He nearly crippled himself in this manner, and we were finally forced to shoe him with a bar across the heel.” Joe Reed II has a legendary disposition. He wasn’t broke until he was 5 and yet owner Bert Wood remembers Joe Reed as a big pet. He said, “He helped to raise our kids, and he sure as heck taught them to ride. They used to climb on the fence and then ease onto Joe’s back. He just stood there. That horse was something special.” He won his world championship with absolutely no race training—had never seen a starting gate or run on a straightaway—and with a crippled foot. “That horse was a combination of two things—tremendous speed and tremendous heart.” Leo was a result of mating Joe Reed II to his sister. He is the greatest broodmare sire in the breed. His daughters produced seven supreme champions, illustrating the versatility of what the bloodline does. (To be a supreme champion they have to run AAA three times and have numerous championships in halter, cutting, roping, and western pleasure.) No other sire’s daughters have ever come close to equaling that record. Joak was also one of Joe Reed II’s greatest sons, achieving his AAA. He was also a great broodmare sire; his daughters placed him on the leading sire list for ROM racing. We feel that the Joe Reed horses are a unique package of speed, heart, easy trainability, and kind dispositions. Several years ago research showed that every world champion in every category of the quarter horse breed had Joe Reed in its pedigree. It included race, halter, cutting, and all performance events—quite an achievement! Another interesting factor of the Joe Reed horses is they line breed so well that it has been easier to maintain the concentration of blood. Often in line-breeding defects show up, but not so in these horses. We have included the Joe Reeds in our breeding program for these reasons and because of the successful crossing of Driftwood with Joe Reed bloodlines. This was the cross that produced the legendary Orphan Drift. He was a tremendous performer himself and sired many outstanding performance horses and broodmares. We see no reason to reinvent the wheel when we know the cross works so well. Other Great Bloodlines Pelican—Grandsire to Frosty Tops and a grandson of Joe Hancock. He ran all distances against both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds. He was 1947 World Champion running stallion. They took him back east and put phony Jockey Club papers on him, and he beat the Thoroughbreds at the big tracks. When they got caught, they brought him home to Gill Ranches in Arizona and retired him to stud. He was considered a greater racehorse than Phar Lap. He is twice in Frosty Silver Jays pedigree. Harlan - A King P234 grandson out of Dixie Beech. He was on the leading sire list of AQHA Champions for 30 years. His colts raced, haltered and earned points in all performance events. They were very versatile. Cee Booger Red—sired many recent PRCA and NFR qualifiers. Joe Beaver won the NFR calf roping on a son and there have been numerous sons at the NFR and PRCA events. Goodbye Sam—A Supreme Champion. He was the only Supreme Champion that was 100% Foundation. He was a grandson of Joak out of a daugh- ter of Leo. Intense Joe Reed II breeding. He was AAA and had more cutting points than any other Supreme Champion. He had a super disposition and sired some outstanding horses. Drifts Vaquero is by Orphan Drift and out of the same mare, Katy Was A Lady, that produced White Lighting Ike, Tuffy Ike, and the horse Mike Beers won the World team roping on. Vaquero had a lot of speed and very good size. Billy Albin, a legendary cowboy from Texas, started Vaquero at nine years of age. He found him to be intelligent and trainable. His daughters have produced World Show qualifiers and numerous stallions. We have gathered up ten of Vaquero’s daughters and have found them to produce the right kind. They are some of our favorite mares. Driftwood Ike – Is the most famous son of Driftwood. 100% foundation. Great calf roping, team roping, and barrel racing horse. Also, has sired some great performers. Gill Cattle Company, before downsizing, was the leading producer of PRCA horses in the world and the sire they used ex- tensively is an own son of Driftwood Ike. They are super cowy with great rate ability and wonderful dispositions. They can take a lot of pressure. Driftwood Ike won calf and team roping points, earning his open performance ROM in 1960 and second high point steer roping horse in 1969. He won a total of 54 AQHA Performance points in roping events. Ikes Last – Son of Driftwood Ike. Only had a few colts, but his daughters are legendary producers. His daughters were big producers for George Strait’s herd as well as Mel Potter and Ron Kester. Information available from “WH Legends” 10 Driftwood Stetson 2001 Dun Reference Stallion

Driftwood Stetson is an outstanding sire and performer. His get are uniform, athletic, kind and very smart. His foals all move like him. His line bred pedigree increases genetic predictability. We are excited to offer you both geldings and foals and let you ride a “Stetson”! The first time Stetson was ever shown, he won! He beat the National Champion Buckskin mare at reining. He has since earned his ROM and quickly qualified for the AQHA World Show in heeling. He was just a few points away from qualifying on the head end, but he had to get back and sire some foals. He has shown in heading, heeling, halter, reining, sorting, and barrel racing. He has 53.5 AQHA points and 6 ABHA points. Thanks to Sherry Pento- rali for this outstanding sire.

Trace of Glen 1994 Red Roan Reference Stallion

We feel very fortunate to have added Trace of Glen to our stallion battery. He has won over $150,000 roping. He is pow- erfully made and sires lots of substance and bone. His cannon is short and his hocks are low to the ground. Lee Jones (a racehorse trainer & calf roper from Oklahoma) says he is the fastest horse he has seen across an arena. His colts have big motors, lots of heart, and are trainable. His dam presently has 6 sons that are outstanding stallions. Double Dollar Ranch in Utah is standing a maternal brother as their senior sire. His pedigree of Orphan Drift and Roan Prairie with some Han- cock blood helps broaden our genetic base.

11 Indigo James 2011 Brown Reference Stallion

Indigo James is an own son of Ivory James, out of a world champion mare, Blue Grass Bounce. His Speed Index is 104 and he’s won over $35k on the race track. Indigo’s very kind and quiet and already handling like a performance horse.

Frostys Silver Jay 1996 Gray Reference Stallion

Frostys Silver Jay is a powerful sire. His colts have good bone and feet, lots of substance, and good minds. His pedigree is all rope and performance. He is line bred to Frostys Tops who went to the NFR as a head horse several times. His dam is known as Blue Light Ike’s fastest daughter. We ride him on the ranch and he is very cowy.

12 SG Rodeo Cowboy 1997 Buckskin Reference Stallion

Rodeo Cowboy is bred to produce rodeo horses and cow horses! His sire, Frostys Tops, has LTE of over $150,000. As of 2005, “Frosty” has sired winners of over 3 million in the rodeo arena and is the maternal sire of over 2 million. Rodeo Cowboy’s mother, OH April, is the dam of horses nearing 1 million in arena earnings and produced “Lariat” and “Double Tough,” who have LTE of over $100,000 for Leo and Jerold Camarillo and “Casper” for Clay O’Brien Cooper. In the thoroghbred racing world this is called “black type”.

Ivory (Gents Traveler) 2002 Cremello Reference Stallion

We had the chance to buy this horse out of a total dispersal. We really liked his top side and recognized it as Porter Wil- lis breeding. It was the classic Driftwood/Bras De Or cross that Katy Peake and Cal Poly made famous. His bottom side came through another Bras De Or/Doc Tom Tucker cross. Ivory’s mother came from an old cowboy that is known for his cow and bridle horses. We started this horse at nine years old. He has been absolutely outstanding. He is quiet but very athletic. When we had 30 rides I worked a 16 ft gate on him separating pairs and never missed a calf.

13 Leo Will 1988 Bay Reference Stallion - Deceased

Leo Will is the 2nd highest % Joe Reed II Horse in the world. The NFAHA gives him 99% Foundation. Leo was 50% Joe Reed II and Leo Will is 44% Joe Reed II. Leo Will has produced some rope horses with exceptional speed and very good minds. They make outstanding saddle horses because of their trainability and heart.

Mr. Willie Leo Gray Reference Stallion -Deceased

Mr. Willie Leo is the result of a full brother mated to a full sister. His dam was a beautiful gray mare that was pictured on the front cover of the Quarter Horse Journal. With time the genes of great horses get diluted. Mr. Willie Leo is an amaz- ing concentration of genes that have been preserved through inbreeding. We are excited about what he can produce in an outcross program. (We have leased him from Fletcher Farms.)

14 Ninja Wood 2001 Red Roan Stallion-Deceased

We acquired this horse out of south Texas. He has been calf roped on and barrel raced. We have used him on the ranch and have been impressed by how trainable and good minded he is. He is naturally very cowy and can really get his hocks under himself. He is line bred Orphan Drift. He is by the immortal Wilywood and goes back on the maternal side to the great Cow Lady Drift mare. We are excited by his foals and can’t wait to ride them.

Pete Williams Leo 2003 Grey Reference Stallion

After losing this horse’s sire we went looking for a replacement. We broke Pete to lead at 9 years old. We bred four mares to him and then started riding him. We were impressed by how he progressed and trained. He is very talented and has a good mind. When used as an outcross on Driftwood mares, the get are very breedy and consistent. He is the highest percentage Joe Reed II horse in the world at 46%.

15 Brazos Buck Hancock 1994 Black Reference Stallion

We got Brazos for a Hancock outcross. He’s a double bred grandson of Bogie Black. Bogie Black has sired multiple NCHA winners. We have been impressed by his disposition, soundness, and agility. Having not been rode for 15 years we went and branded calves on him.

Wily Ike 2005 Buckskin Reference Stallion

Ike is bred to be a using horse. He is quiet and very trainable. He won second in his first show heading at the Red Bluff AQHA Show. His sire Wilywood, was an outstanding calf roping horse who they competed on numerous times without a bridle. He sired rope, barrel, bulldogging, and cutting horses. He stood the last years of his life at a $3000 stud fee. Wily’s dam is by Lone Drifter and both of her granddams were AAA mares. He traces 5 times to Driftwood and carries 25% Drift- wood blood.

16 Frenchmans Max 1998 Palomino Reference Stallion

Frenchmans Max has done it all. He was used on a ranch and roped both ends winning jackpot money. He is also pat- terned on the barrels. He is a proven producer. He has produced futurity, 1-D, and WPRA barrel horses as well as several team-roping and steer-wrestling competitors including Frenchmans Gun - winner of the Nebraska Ne. 10 1D Champion Year-end award in 2007 and 2008; Frenchmans You Who - AQHA Barrel Racing point earner; French Sash - 2008 5-State Heeling Maturity 4TH Place; etc. Frenchmans Max is producing a lot of palominos and buckskins as a bonus! He has the substance and bone that many breeders are looking for! He stands 15.1 hands and weighs 1,300 lbs.

Geldings This is a blanket statement about all of the geldings because it would be redundant to have it in their indi- vidual write ups. These horses have all been raised on the mountain and they are phenomenal to ride outside. They are sure footed and aware of their surroundings. These horses have been raised on chelated minerals that are specific to this regional area’s needs. The five year old geldings have branded a lot of calves and they broke in a new set of steers this spring. They have all been used as head horses because of the necessity of starting the four year olds heeling. They all have a little more to grow and quite a bit of mass to put on. The four year old geldings have branded calves this spring. They are started heading and heeling and have roped the Smarty. They have their first set of shoes on. They are not measured because they will grow until they are six years old. The three year olds have roped the Smarty and have approximately 30 rides this spring and 10 last summer. They are a quiet and easy going set of colts. If you have any questions, just ask. 17 LMP Tequila Reed 1 2010 Grey Gelding

Everyone has heard the term “you can’t ride papers”, and while that’s plainly obvious, what we can ride is the predictability that those papers give. Joe Reed bloodlines are known for being extremely kind horses and that is Tequila! Head, heel, brand calves, and anybody can ride him.

Taz (LMP Trace of Willie) 2 2010 Bay Gelding

Here is the famous Joe Reed x Driftwood working again. Taz is balanced and powerful. If you need or just want one that can mortally fly, look no further. Taz ropes both ends and scores good.

3 LMP Oxford Ike 2010 Buckskin Gelding

You can’t go wrong with a Stetson. Oxford is big and pretty with lots of ability and kindness. He is fun to brand calves on and is making a nice head horse. He has a full brother standing at stud in Wyoming and another that is a top notch police mount in Michigan! Very versatile horse. 18 v 4 Cinch (LMP Frosty Cinch) 2010 Grey Gelding

We thought Cinch looked like a rope horse as a youngster. He hasn’t dis- appointed. He runs hard, scores good, and is strong from the horn. He is powerfully made. He’s a brother to our 2013 high seller and brother to George Aros’, Santino, Ky Rosenberg’s PRCA tripping horse, and Fran- cisco De La Torre’s top head horse, Mack.

LMP Sackett 5 2010 Grey Gelding

Sackett is big and stout. He is very pretty too. He is making a nice head horse. Scores good and runs flat. You will get compliments and draw attention on this one.

6 Roy (LMP Happy Roy) 2011 Bay Roan Gelding

We sold Roy’s mother two years ago in the sale because we can’t keep them all. After riding Roy you’ll want to own the mare! Roy comes from hard knocking rodeo horses. He rides really good. He is a natural at anything you want him to do. He is making a nice heel horse. 19 Ike (LMP Ikes Lollipop) 7 2011 Buckskin Gelding

This family of horses are tough to beat. Ike has big shoes to fill be- cause he has had three brothers that have been outstanding! His mother is a “no miss” kind of mare. I’ll say this about him – so far, so good. Big, stout, balanced, and kind. He is another good one.

Pepsi (LMP Stetsons Drifter) 8 2010 Buckskin Gelding

Pepsi has really matured this last winter. His first ride this spring after being laid off for 4 months was dragging a wild longhorn cow into the trailer! He acted like he had done it once a week for 20 years. Head, heel, or just enjoy riding a good one.

Amarillo (LMP Amarillo Ike) 9 2009 Palomino Gelding

Amarillo is the only 6 year old gelding in the sale. That’s different but not bad. He was going to be my dad’s personal “go to” horse but he got too tall. He is fun to brand on and is gentle and responsive to ride. He has been laid off multiple times with no issues. He is more ranch horse than team roping horse, but he is also doing good as a head horse – just 20 greener. 10 Stanley (LMP Silver Mounted) 2011 Grey Gelding

I don’t know if he is really any nicer than any other 4 year old, but Stanley is one of my favorites (I think it’s okay to say that, right?) He comes out of one of our favorite young Stet- son daughters. He is a good mover and a hard stopper. He has branded calves and is doing good roping steers.

11 Tabasco (LMP Tuff On A Rope) 2010 Bay Gelding

I love riding this horse! He has the coolest fast walk of all the horses. He is fun to ride outside and brand on. He is also making a good heel horse. Also if the steers aren’t huge he isn’t too bad to head on.

Payette (LMP Steel Payette) 12 2010 Grey Gelding

Payette comes from one of the best mare families of Joe Murray and Jim Wheatley. He had a brother that we sold as a calf horse to a Brazilian for a lot of money. He is quiet and laid back. He is roping both ends well. 21 Bert (LMP Bert) 13 2011 Buckskin Gelding

Bert is athletic and quick. He comes from a great line of horses that have tons of ability. He has branded lots of calves and is tough and game. He is roping good and has the look of a top heel or calf horse.

14 Chazz (LMP Stetsons Gillett) 2011 Buckskin Gelding

Chazz’s maternal grandsire was a top PRCA heel horse with earnings exceeding 300k. Chazz oozes talent. He gives you 110% every time. He is a blast to ride and will turn heads in the brand- ing trap or arena.

15 Diablo (LMP Tivio Drift) 2010 Buckskin Gelding

Here is another Stetson that has lots of talent. He is a maternal brother to Ky Rosenberg’s tripping horse and Francisco De La Torre’s head horse, Mack (he is said to be the best head horse in Mexico – he is only 7). Dia- blo has been used as a ranch horse on some big ranches in Grandview, Idaho. He is making a really nice arena horse too. 22 16 Dundee (LMP Dundee Ike) 2010 Buckskin Gelding

Dundee’s mother is a half sister in blood to Clay O’Brien Coopers old buckskin, Ike. He is very fluid in his movements and has a hard stop. He has branded lots of calves and been used outside in rough terrain. He is doing good heading and heeling in the arena. He isn’t for just everybody. El Fuego (LMP Traces Vaquero) 17 2011 Bay Gelding

If you want one that’s cool looking you won’t miss with El Fuego! He is on fire and has one burning constantly. Smooth mover, hard stopping, and wants to rate – he is the real deal. He is good at whatever he sets his mind to – not for everybody.

18 Tikki (LMP Topshot Drift) 2012 Bay Gelding

Tikki is a nice three year old that is calm, cool, and collected. He moves good and stays quiet. His mother is out of a full sister to Lone Drifter. His “predictor” is stacked with good ones.

23 19 Gator (LMP Tuff N Fast) 2011 Bay Gelding

Here is another Stetson that is outstanding. He is a little bigger than most of the Stetsons. He is a full brother to lot #11. I like how this horse uses his hocks and moves around. He is roping both ends.

20 Coil (LMP Cooper Ike) 2012 Brown Gelding

A lot of people thought we should have left this one a stud because of his pedigree. He is line bred back to the K4’s “April” mare family. His sire is a half brother to Clay O’Brien Cooper’s, Ike. Coil won’t disappoint you. He is very balanced and wants to please. 21 Pecos (LMP Trace Of Silver) 2011 Grey Gelding

Pecos’ mother died so he is the end of the line. He has a sister in Pennsylvania that cannot be bought I am told. He moves free and stays quiet. He is roping good.

24 22 EZ (LMP Dustys Last) 2011 Red Dun Gelding

This good looking red dun is living up to the example of his older brothers. Candyman, Flash, and Bourbon are all fantastic mounts and EZ is right with them. He was a natural this spring in the branding trap and hasn’t looked back. EZ makes it look easy.

23 Button (JR Hunky Seventeen ) 2011 Bay Gelding

When we had the opportunity to buy Miniwood we took it and Button was tagging along at her flank. He is balanced and an eye catcher. His sire was an awesome calf horse that wasn’t even broke to ride until he was 9 years old. Don’t overlook Button.

Fuel (LMP Sketchwood) 24 2012 Buckskin Gelding
