    Written evidence from Spotlight on Corruption1 (PGG18) The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee Propriety of governance in light of Greensill inquiry Introduction The revelations arising from the Greensill affair and its fallout, coming alongside other recent and ongoing scandals, have exposed significant weaknesses in the UK system for managing conflicts of interest, lobbying, and business appointments. This is a vital opportunity to bring the UK’s standards landscape up to date, and to ensure that integrity and ethics in government are regulated in a way that befits a modern democracy. Taking action to strengthen the UK’s integrity and ethics framework would benefit the UK by helping to: build trust in politicians and government; strengthen the stability, predictability and attractiveness of the UK as a place to do business; give the UK greater credibility on the international stage in promoting democracy and good governance; and implement outstanding recommendations made by international bodies such as the UN and Council of Europe about how the UK can improve its integrity and ethics framework to prevent and tackle corruption. Key Recommendations 1. Integrity and Ethics legislation. The government should consult on the introduction of an Integrity and Ethics Bill, by the spring of 2022, which gives legislative effect to: the Law Commission’s recommendations on the introduction of a corruption in public office offence; recommendations made by international bodies to put ACOBA and the Independent Advisor on Ministerial Interests on a statutory footing; recommendations that are likely to be made by the Committee on Standards in Public Life’s Standards Matters 2.0 review in the Autumn of 2021; and recommendations likely to be made from both the Boardman review and parliamentary committees such as PACAC, including legislative reform to the Lobbying Act.

Consider serving foods from the time period at your book discussion. She brings the era she is exploring to life and always tells the story from such a personal point of view that you feel you are, or at least know, the main character. When Margaret of Anjou is brought over to England to marry King Henry of Lancaster, Jacquetta, as her relative, is retrieved from the countryside to befriend the new Queen. And that was supposedly years after Jacquetta lived. Like some of her characters, she practices alchemy, she spins gold from paper pages. I really got the feeling that the book was more of a chore for PG to write rather than a pleasure. It did start to pick up a little bit better after the half way point.. She is a direct descendant of Melusina, the water goddess of legend, and this lineage gives her some powers that separate her from the everyday people around her. As in Tattooist , the writing itself is workmanlike at best and often overwrought.

Summer Holidays are over for another year and its hard to believe the children are all back at school again at the beginning of another new school year. P1 pupils will be entering Primary School for the first time, others are making the move from Primary to Secondary education and some heading off to university. Perhaps some reading this newsletter are beginning a new job, others may have plans to retire to begin new ventures? Regarding church life in Magheramason, it is all go, as all of our organisations begin again for another season. The past year has been a time of transition for the manse family as we have settled into life in this beautiful part of the country. It has taken time, but we are thankful for all who have helped and supported us prayerfully and practically in early stages of ministry here. We know it is the LORD himself who has led us to this place, as we have sought to follow his clear direction for our lives as a family. At this busy time it is good to stop and ask are we keeping in step with Jesus? On the first Sunday of September to coincide with Sunday School recommencing we had a special Back to School with God service. Many boys and girls led us in prayer and bible readings joining with adults who are involved in different aspects of work in our local schools.
