Men cannot ex- perience pregnancy - right - but there are some women who have not experienced pregnancy yet, and others who never will (whether by choice or not). Many women will also never get close to abortions, and few- er women will go through pregnancy complications, and so on. A second problem is that women do not become pro-life or pro-choice by virtue of getting pregnant or giving birth, much less by merely being wom- en. In fact, according to 2018 Pew Research Cen- ter data, men and women have very similar views on abortion. In other words, being a woman does not make one more likely to be pro-choice. As a side note, many women have been passionately pro-life. Some examples include Lila Rose, Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) and Norma Mc- Corvey (“Roe” of Roe vs. Wade, who later became pro-life). So now we wonder why so many people, both women and men, think a certain way regarding abor- tion. Experience, of course, has a role to play, but by and large, these beliefs are arrived at via reason. Anna: “The Fruitful Darkness” This Trevor Hall has one of the most gorgeous covers of any album I’ve listened to. The artwork was done by an artist named Mitch Gobel and I really think it encompasses what Hall’s album is about. The overall message of the album is to embrace the bad parts of life, our darkest moments, because we will learn so much more from those moments than from the brightest mo- ments. I think Gobel’s art piece showcases life as many winding paths or rivers that branch off into many other winding paths or rivers. His work shows the ebb and flow of life; the mixing of the good and the bad. I love how much thought Trevor Hall always puts into his music, from the instrumentals to the lyrics, but I also love how he extends that attention toward his album artwork and that he chose a piece like Gobel’s. The cover’s beauty is a preview of the music’s beauty.

Madelyn: “The Mortal Instruments” If you put together the spines of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, the books create a picture. I love it because it’s a very powerful image and the whole book is left up to the imagination, escape for the spines of the first six books which create this image:

Rebecca: “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” Sometimes the simplest of ideas can get across the meaning, or idea, of something in a very powerful way. When it comes down to it the minimalist styled posters and covers have always been a favorite. While detailed covers get their point across, there are times when there is too much going on. I’ve been a long time fan of the wizarding world of Harry Potter as a result of the memories I have watching the series with my family. The normal movie posters and DVD covers are great for providing a quick glimpse of how the characters change and evolve over the course of the series but provide little insight as to what is to come. While we lose this aspect in most minimalist posters, we gain a bit of knowledge on what the movie or book will be about and can ponder the outcome, and how the information received will be obtained and used throughout the movie.

Eduardo: “Post” – Björk Björk’s music has been acclaimed for being an intricate work of art in every release of her discography. Ranging from the music to the artwork and photography, every detail adds to each album’s style. In the artwork that is featured in Björk’s most recent like “Biophilia” and “Vulnicura,” we see the artist wearing extravagant apparel covered in colors of all sorts and amazing make-up design, creating an image that feels surreal. The artwork for 1995’s “Post” shares a lot of these same qualities. Björk looks like she is painted on the album cover, surrounded by intense colors with sharp shapes and delicate textures to match Björk’s texture. Overall, this cover art looks like the album sounds: it has the delicate textures of the instrumentals and Björk’s vocals, but it also has the unnatural feel of the retro hip-hop beats that are all over this album.

Sam: “Popular Culture” - XV I’ve always been a fan of collages. It’s hard to place where this came from, but there’s just something so satisfying about looking at a picture and picking it apart detail by detail. Mina Kwon knocks this cover out of the park by recreating the classic opening sequence from “The Simpsons,” with animated images of various popular culture characters. This cover specifically resonates with me because I see so much of my childhood in it. From Darth Vader and Goku to Kanye. It’s just so cool to see so many characters in one picture. The mixtape is also pretty solid and pretty ambitious for a free album.

Weezer is a fascinating band to me. You could probably say I am a fan, but with so many bad albums, you could also call me a Weezer hater. With the recent release of the “Black Album,” I figured 13 was a nice, lucky number to round up and rank each of their albums. Ranking 13 albums is a daunting task so along with numbering them I will be putting each album in one of five categories: Great, Good, Meh, Bad and Gross. Rather than explaining my reasoning for each album, I will instead talk about them in their respective categories. These rankings are based on listenability, creativity and general personal preference. That is to say, this list is my opinion and I’m sure many will disagree, but I welcome that. If you want to discuss this list, please feel free to reach out to me.

Gross: So this category is dedicated to two specific albums: “” and “Make Believe.” These albums are both flat- out terrible. They’re boring, they’re not creative and they are just not at all enjoyable to listen to. I truly hate both of these albums. I think “Pacific Daydream” is just slightly worse because it somehow feels longer than “Make Believe” while being 11 minutes shorter. Please avoid both of these albums, for your own good.

Bad: This category holds just one album because it is hard to categorize it for me. “” is a bad album. A really bad album, but at least it isn’t boring. Weezer took risks on this album and even got a feature. This album quickly approaches “so bad it’s good” territory and for that reason, it is better than the albums in my “gross” category.

Meh: More than any other category, Weezer has many “meh” albums. “Black,” “Teal,” “Hurley,” “Green” and “Red” are all great and bad simultaneously. For each of these albums, they are not consistently mediocre, rather they have really strong points and incredibly weak points. Take “Hurley” for example. The first three tracks are some of Weezer’s best songs ever made, but then the album crashes into a million pieces when “Where’s My Sex?” hits. Yikes. These albums are all worth listening to, but mostly so you can pick out a handful of favorites. Some have more good than others, but they all have their fair share of bad material.

Good: Yes, the good album category. Everything from this and the following category are must-listens in my eyes (or ears?). “Ev- erything Will be Alright in the End” and “” are both really really good albums, but just not quite great. “Everything” is the album that got me into Weezer and feels like one hell of a return to form. The song “Eulogy for a Rock Band” is one of my favorite Weezer songs ever and shows a strange moment of self-awareness and nostalgia that few bands are able to capture. “Maladroit” is probably Weezer’s most experimental piece of work and it’s honestly pretty awesome. Listen to both of these.

Great: The top three undisputed albums from Weezer. I’m willing to go out on a limb and say that 99 percent of Weezer fans would have the same top three albums. “White,” “Blue” and “Pinkerton” are all fantastic albums. “White” proved that Weezer can still make a phenomenal album 20 years into a rocky career. They do so many different things on this album and somehow execute them all nearly flawlessly. “Blue” is probably their “best” album, even if not my favorite. This album forever changed indie-rock and perfectly embodied making being “nerdy” cool. And then there’s “Pinkerton,” one of my favorite albums ever. Maybe it was hearing it as an angsty, depressed teen; maybe it’s because the album creates an amazingly realized, yet troubling character. I could go on for days about how awesome this dusty, gross and noisy album is, but honestly I would just recommend listening to it. Many people will probably hate it, but “Pinkerton” is peak Weezer and you cannot tell me otherwise.

Softball began its thirty- ninth season during spring break. We decided to take a look back at SNC Softball, one year after the program began here. This picture, found in the 1981 yearbook, did not include names of the play- ers. We do know this team went 7 and 5 under the coaching of Judith Cohen. Congratulations, soft- ball, on almost 40 seasons at St. Norbert!
