Cheyenne Code

The Cheyenne Traditional is one of Cheyenne’s Traditional Cornerstones. We believe that there is a relationship between student dress and student success, school pride, and the accomplishments of delivering curriculum goals. The Cheyenne Uniform Dress Code promotes a positive and distinctive Cheyenne identity that reflects the values of the school and community.

Clothing, outerwear, and must be plain and without trademark logos, writing, graphics, or multi-colors. Only Cheyenne Traditional School trademarks are allowed. must fit properly in size and in lengths. Students are required to conform to the Uniform Dress Code every day.

Shirts • Acceptable are collared polo shirts, collared dress shirts or collared . • Cheyenne spirit T-shirts may be worn on Fridays. • Polo shirts are plain in solid navy, light blue, or white. • Dress shirts and blouses are white, and must have sleeves. sleeves are not allowed. • Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

Pants • Long pants and short pants are plain and uniform style. and colored are not allowed. • Pants are solid navy blue or tan (khaki). • Long pants are to be ankle length. Short pants cannot be shorter than 3 inches above the kneecap. • The waistline of pants must sit at or above the of the hipbone. • “Cargo” style pants, pants that have multiple pockets are not allowed.

Skirts and Jumper (A jumper is a collarless and sleeveless dress that must be worn over a ) • and jumpers are plain and uniform style. • Skirts and jumpers are solid navy blue or tan (khaki) • cannot be shorter than three inches above the kneecap. • Polo-style dresses are not allowed.

Shoes and Stockings • must be fully closed at ankle and toe, and properly secured on the foot. are not allowed. • Heel height is lower than 1 inch. Ankle height is at or below the ankle. • , stockings or (with feet) are required. (without feet) may be worn under skirts or dresses. Leggings must be no shorter than ankle length. • Socks and stockings may be solid white, navy blue, or black. Tights are opaque in solid white or navy.

Hair Styles, Hair Accessories, and • Hair must be clean and neatly groomed. Extreme cuts, hairstyles, and coloring are not allowed. • , hair clips, hair ribbons, and ponytail elastics are to be plain in white, tan, navy blue, brown, or black. • Baseball hats and knitted fitted must be plain in solid colors of white, tan, navy blue, or black. • Hats cannot be worn in the classrooms or inside buildings. Belts • Belts are to be plain in leather or cloth and in colors of solid black, brown, white, tan (khaki) or navy blue. • Belts and buckles cannot be decorative or ornate in . • Belts must fit normally around the .

Make Up and Nail Polish • Grades K thru 5 may wear clear lip-balm. Make-up and nail polish is not allowed. • Grades 6 thru 8 may wear natural colored makeup and nail polish. Artificial nails are not allowed. • Tattoos and nail art are not allowed.

Jewelry and ID Lanyards • Discretely styled small and plain may be worn in Grades K thru 5. • Discretely styled small earrings, short , single strand bracelets, and plain styled watches may be worn in Grades 6 thru 8. • Lanyards must have a break-away clasp and be plain in solid navy blue, light blue, white, or black. • Patriotic and religious expression in jewelry are allowed as long as items adhere to the SUSD Uniform Dress Code.

Sweatshirts/// • Sweatshirts and sweaters worn on campus must be a plain in solid navy, light blue or white. • Winter coats and jackets may not be worn inside buildings.

Athletic and Scouting • Middle school athletic uniforms and jerseys are allowed on game day only. • Scouting uniforms or vests may be worn on meeting days only and must meet dress code requirements.

Consequences for Dress Code Violations In addition to disciplinary action, students who violate the Cheyenne Uniform Dress Code standards may be asked to do any of the following, depending upon the specific circumstances: • Change into clothing that may be provided by the school • Turn inappropriate clothing inside out • Have appropriate clothing brought to school • Remove the accessory
