In 2015, Salomon was one of fifteen students to pass an entrance exam to be trained as a commercial pilot for the national airline, out of a thousand applicants. At the age of 22, after a year of theoretical studies in the capital city of Yamoussoukro, where once again he was active in the local Church of God congregation, he is on his way to France to complete his pilot’s training. Salomon, born to illiterate parents, is the first of his family to finish university. And missionary Larry Sellers notes that he is the only person known to have been actively involved in five different Church of God congregations in three different regions of the country. Salomon credits God for all of his success and perseverance. He is one of the bright stars for the upcoming work of the Church of God in Côte d’Ivoire. Malawi Ministry Center...... 42 .30352 The church in Malawi has purchased land and begun construction on the national headquarters, as well as the pastors’ training center. The buildings will include classrooms, kitchen and dining room, dormitory, and offices. (Annual Goal: $13,000)

Tanzania Pastoral Continuing Education ...... 42 .40476 These scholarships will enable Tanzanians to get college-level theological training through existing Bible schools of theology in Tanzania or through KIST in Kenya. (Annual Goal: $6,000)

Uganda Uganda Tumaini AIDS Prevention Program (TAPP) ...... 42 .30623 This social program assists families coping with HIV/AIDS, educates, encourages, and develops hope through seminars, home visits, skills, and small projects. (Annual Goal: $900)

Uganda Women’s Ministry/Church Schools...... 42 .30626 Women are the core of the church and help it to expand with projects, seminars, and visitation. Schools educate and nurture spiritual growth. Sixty percent of the country is age fifteen and younger. Schools open avenues of ministry to these children. (Annual Goal: $1,000)

Uganda Ministry Development...... 42 .40520 Mentoring, training, and education are vital to the growth of the church in Uganda. Church property purchases and development are needed in order for congregations to expand their ministries. (Annual Goal: $7,500)

Uganda Health Care Ministry and Management...... 42 .40522 Management, medicine, development, and support of clinical workers are major priorities in bringing about holistic health. We need your support to meet these needs and the legal requirements that govern medical work. (Annual Goal: $1,900)

12 BANGLADESH — In 2010, when the picture below was taken, ASIA-PACIFIC Ramjan, Sima, and Swapan had just finished eighth grade. What is remarkable is that none of them live within twenty miles of a school! Through the “Invest in a Village” project, all three were able to come to Kakina village to attend school. Don and Caroline Armstrong While there, they were housed, fed, loved, and introduced to Jesus through the project. Bangladesh is a country with

REGIONAL COORDINATORS less than .5% Christians, but the Church of God is making ASIA–PACIFIC a difference. 23 Countries Today, “Invest in a Village” is impacting the lives of over 2,000 children in seven different locations throughout 1,687 Churches Bangladesh. Though some of the children they serve are Christians, they also care for Hindus and Muslims, reaching 225,132 Believers out with the hope of Christ in tangible ways. The 80+ Church of God congregations across the country are involved in many types of ministry including church planting, evangelism, childrens ministry, hostel programs, child sponsorship, and primary and secondary education. And the program is making a difference. Instead of farming small plots in their villages, Sima and Ramjan are university students, having qualified for government scholarships. Swapan also qualified, but chose to go back to his village where he now works as a motorcycle mechanic. Their future is different because the Church of God in Bangladesh chose to invest in their lives. Tapan Borman, national leader for the Church of God in Bangladesh, has a desire to see this program expand further into rural Bangladesh to change the futures of the children. House of Success...... 42 .30396 The House of Success is a one room school for the children of asylum-seeking Christians from Pakistan. These ASIA–PACIFIC children have not been in school since their parents left Pakistan. The House of Success is using ACE curriculum that enables the student to progress as quickly as they are able. Funds are needed to buy curriculum, school supplies and to pay for a supervisor’s salary, as well as rent for the school room. (Project Goal: $20,000)

Australia Australia Growth for the Journey...... 42 .30020 Journey Church is pastored by Rev. David Ravell. Funds go toward special events that the church holds in the community to promote Journey Church as a place of worship. (Annual Goal: $12,000)

Bangladesh Bangladesh National Leaders/Workers (Lalmanirhat)...... 42 .30030 We have seven pastors and evangelists, under the leadership of Tapan Borman, who serve fifty-seven churches; these funds are used to supplement their support. (Annual Goal: $8,000)

Bangladesh Invest in a Village, Transform the Future (Lalmanirhat)...... 42 .30033 Reach an entire rural village for Christ by investing, over three years in a Faith Center building. Funds will also aid in children’s ministry, water well, secure toilets and bathing facilities, electric-powered rickshaw, and pastor and pastoral training. (Annual Goal: $20,000)

India—Odisha Odisha Church of God Association...... 42 .30270 Church members combine their tithes with donations to this project to provide a salary for the Indian pastors who work in the state of Odisha. The project administrator for the Shelter, Mamata Das, receives her salary from this project. (Annual Goal: $16,000)

Public School at The Shelter, Cuttack, Odisha, India...... 42.40287 This public school on the premises of the Shelter provides primary school education in English to children of families who live in the area around the Shelter, as well as to girls who reside in the Shelter. (Annual Goal: $10,000)

The Shelter Girls Home, Cuttack, Odisha, India ...... 42 .40286 The Shelter has been in continuous operation for over 100 years, providing a safe environment for at-risk Indian girls. The Shelter provides education, food, clothing, beds, and spiritual enrichment. Funds go toward maintaining the buildings. (Annual Goal: $10,000)

15 India—South South India Asia Bible College...... 42 .30286 The college provides basic biblical, theological, doctrinal, and practical training for men and women who feel called by God to be ministers of the gospel. There are thirty-nine students in Cochin, Keralla, India. Funds will provide upgrades for accreditation, library needs, and faculty allowances. (Annual Goal: $12,000)

India—West Bengal Church Construction in Siliguri West Bengal...... 42 .40304 This project aids the development of churches by constructing new church buildings in cooperation with local believers to provide adequate places for worship and ministry. (Project Goal: $17,825)

India India Tibetan Outreach...... 42 .40405 Outreach among the Tibetan people, particularly among Tibetan monks, is challenging. Work in this closed Himalayan region is going on with some rather remarkable results. (Annual Goal: $1,200)

Micronesia ASIA–PACIFIC Micronesia Church Planting...... 42 .40230 Church planting efforts continue among the animistic Yapese people. Pastor Tomas is working on the outer islands of Yap. Special waterproof Bibles are needed for new believers. (Annual Goal: $1,000)

Micronesia School Scholarships ...... 42 .30290 Yap International Christian School, located on the island of Yap, strengthens the new church by educating the children of the people who attend. Gary and Gwen Bistritan are teachers and administrators of the school. (Annual Goal: $500)

Myanmar Myanmar National Leaders/Workers...... 42 .30410 Led by Dorothy Colney, fifteen pastors, teachers, and evangelists work in Myanmar. Pastors receive $100 each month; evangelists and teachers receive $70 each month. (Annual Goal: $10,000)

Myanmar New Church Development ...... 42 .40390 The national work in Myanmar is based in Yangon, but it is not confined to the capital city. There is a great need today to establish church facilities since the government has granted freedom to worship. (Annual Goal: $2,500)

New Zealand Peninsula Community Church Support...... 42 .40412 This support will be used to help the church as they bring on additional staff for youth, children and music. It will also be used by the church to support living expenses for the lead pastor and family. (Project Goal: $28,500)

Philippines Philippines National Leaders/Workers ...... 42 .30470 Rev. Eduardo Viray heads the Church of God in the Philippines. There are sixteen pastors and four student or lay pastors; they care for fifty-one churches and preaching points. Funds are used to supplement salaries of pastors and workers. (Annual Goal: $7,000)

16 Philippines Family Enrichment Program...... 42 .30475 This project, initiated by Eduardo Viray, targets the various felt needs of the families. This project has a holistic educational approach that includes seminars in nutrition, family care, and marriage issues, all grounded in biblical principles. (Annual Goal: $2,500)

Sri Lanka Sri Lanka Ministry Sustainability . . . . . 42 .40452 This project empowers the Church of God in Sri Lanka to develop national resources that will support strong, community-involved churches, provide self-sustaining ministries, and create a Church of God in Sri Lanka that will one day send its own missionaries. (Annual Goal: $40,000)

Taiwan

Taiwan Evangelism/Discipleship (Central Asia)...... 42 .40461 ASIA–PACIFIC The evangelistic efforts of the Church of God in Taiwan are focused on Central Asia. The mission of ministry outside the borders of Taiwan is to develop new Christians who lead others to Christ and disciple them. They establish elementary schools, church facilities, training centers, and drug recovery centers. (Annual Goal: $10,000)

The sixteen pastors and evangelists receive an average salary of $385 a month. A training program is in place to prepare children and teenagers for future ministry. (Annual Goal: $9,000)

17 HAITI — Mark and Kathy recently were in a remote CARIBBEAN– village in Haiti as part of a medical team through the St. Ard Hospital. ATLANTIC Outreach using mobile clinics is an important encouragement to the community and the Church of God pastors in the area. We can easily see about 400 Eustace Rawlings people in the course of one day. My job at one point was taking blood pressures, one after another. I tried REGIONAL CONTACT to connect with each patient with my somewhat broken Kreyòl, asking about their day or about their family. I 13 Countries greeted one woman in her fifties. As I looked down past the blood pressure cuff, I saw her shoes. My shoes. She 413 Churches had on a pair of shoes identical to ones I own. Black, quilted patterned with patent leather accents, covered 46,330 Believers in dust that had accumulated as she walked the great distance to come to the clinic that day. I thought about how my shoes had carried me to shopping malls and restaurants. Then I thought about how this lady’s shoes CARIBBEAN–ATLANTIC had carried her to the village market to buy her fresh produce and raw meat, and to the stream to collect her water. I thought about how our pairs of shoes had carried us to our own churches on Sundays. I thought about how we as moms had raised our babies, loved our husbands, and worried about our grown kids, as moms all do. I thought about how we are just the same, and yet we each have such a unique story to tell. And I thought about the body of Christ. We are different, yet united. One is an eye, the other is an ear. We each are here on this earth with a different story, with different gifts and talents, but with the same need for love and acceptance. And Christ is the one who unites us all, who loves without limit, who celebrates our differences for the unique ways that they can come together to better the body. 20 BERLIN, GERMANY—The ministry of Pink Door Berlin is one part of the solution to injustice in Europe—“to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” as we’re commanded to do in Micah 6:8. Sexual exploitation and human sex trafficking EUROPE– are not easily explained in our church culture, but they are a reality of our world today. In contrast to Micah 6:8, they are not right, certainly MIDDLE EAST not merciful, and are the epitome of pride, arrogance, and greed. The Global Strategy team in Europe and the Middle East is committed to reconciliation and redemption of those victimized Patrick and Jamie Nachtigall by these heinous crimes of injustice. REGIONAL COORDINATORS “What are your dreams for your future?” Rhonda asked. Silence. 14 Countries “What would you like to do with your life now that 99 Churches you are free? You know, a goal for your future?” Again silence. Finally came a stuttered response: “I… I can’t do anything.” EUROPE–MIDDLE EAST 6,620 Believers No hopes and dreams. No sense of value. This young girl saw herself as others had always seen her—an object, a disposable commodity, a means to fulfill selfish, warped desires. Molested since she was a young child by a family member, her will broken by violence and exploitation, and then groomed for prostitution, she had come to believe THAT was her purpose. Independent thinking and dreams of something more from life had been ruthlessly eliminated. So hope died. In the nurturing environment of Pink Door, where she is valued and where people of faith walk alongside her each step of the way, this young girl has discovered that, deep down, she possesses courage, strength, hope, and faith in the One who created her. God calls us to see our own brokenness, which prepares us to see beyond the brokenness of others, without judgment or prejudice, and join in God’s mission of reconciliation. Because of the light of abiding faith in God, we are able to carry that light into very dark places. Valued. Restored. Empowered. Pink Door Berlin’s mission of reconciliation. Timothy’s School, AMERICA named after the late son of Norberto Kurrle, provides schooling for kids ages two to first grade. In a country that is only 7% evangelical Christian, it may seem strange to open a Christian school, Ben Shular but the response has been tremendous. ACTING REGIONAL COORDINATOR The school leaders see a hunger in the community for Christian 19 Countries education, and people, Christians and non- 785 Churches Christians alike, are bringing their kids. 54,541 Believers The school started in February 2014 and attendance has steadily risen as they add a new grade each year. In 2015 the school had 36 kids, but at the start of this year they are welcoming 61 into their doors! The school also employs 12 staff members. Timothy’s school is the fourth school the Church of God has started in Paraguay, the earliest dating back to 1984. LATIN AMERICA Though the school is certainly making an impact in the lives of the kids who attend, it is also a light to the community at-large. This past year, Timothy’s School was invited for the first time to participate in the District Day parade. Staff and students were able to proudly march, carrying a banner with their school logo and the name of their city, Obligado. The banner read, “Obligado, city blessed by God.” Timothy’s School continues to bring life-change to kids while also being a light to their community. 40 NATIVE AMERICAN MINISTRIES

The ministry of the Church of God to the Native American reservations has been a work in progress for many years. It seeks to reach Native Americans in Arizona, Nebraska, South Dakota, Idaho, and Washington State. Faced with unusually high rates of domestic abuse, unemployment, suicide, and hopelessness, these ministries are in great need of support. In the last four years there has been a renewed interest in this vital ministry. In cooperation with the American Indian Council of the Church of God, overseen by First Chief Maureen Woodman, Domestic Ministries of the Church of God, led by Handel Smith, is revitalizing this aspect of Home Missions of the Church of God. The American Indian Council, along with the missionaries currently on the field, has a deep concern and commitment to seeing the work on these reservations revitalized. It is urgent that the Church of God begin to know and partner with these great missionaries and Native American leaders to enable them to accomplish and expand their work among these great Americans by making Jesus the subject of their lives on a daily basis by being the love of Christ among them. In order to accomplish this goal the American Indian Council (AIC) in 2015 developed this mission statement: “Expressing the love of God by practicing the ministry of presence, building meaningful relationships, loving without hurting, working and partnering to disciple the lost.” Please pray that the leadership of the AIC will effectively work together to develop Christ-centered leaders and missionaries to do God’s will on the reservations. Also, be in prayer that new Native American leaders will hear the call of God to serve in this work. In addition to these two very important needs, pray that missionaries, council leaders, and Native American leaders will find a spirit of cooperation and respect for each other and for the cultural differences among us. In the spring of 2016 we announced a significant change in the way these funds will be received and distributed. After extensive research into best practices of Christian nonprofit organizations, and reviewing the recommendations of ECFA, we have come to the conclusion that our former funding model produced unsustainable promises. Previously we assumed that designated gifts could be applied to projects and ministries at 100% and that other undesignated contributions would be sucient to cover all administration and support services for these ministry recipients. This proved to be wrong over time. Why? It’s very attractive to donors to promise that 100% of their gift can be applied to a project or need and that there will always be strong undesignated support for the basic budget to underwrite the administrative costs. This simply was not happening. It was a wrong assumption. Our research revealed the model the vast majority of Christian nonprofit organizations have adopted is to safeguard a small percentage of designated gifts to cover the administrative support for each ministry. We have settled upon a 15% designation of all gifts to be safeguarded for administration and fundraising costs. The 15% designation does not completely cover all of these support costs and thus, strong support of the Reach Our World Fund is still needed. Thankfully, there are many churches and individuals who provide basic, undesignated support for our ministries. This positive change aligns our Movement with current best practices and positions Church of God Ministries with greater financial strength as together we make Jesus the subject in our Movement and to the world. Sometimes our oce is asked for guidance in the matter of financial support for the Church of God Ministries budget. In 2012 the General Assembly of the Church of God passed a resolution recommending that congregations contribute a standard 5% of their annual income to this approved budget. By supporting the ministry financially, you have the opportunity to Join the Movement not just prayerfully and ideologically, but also pragmatically and sustainably.
