Legassie 5/4/2017 A History of Samuel Miles Jones & Rebecca Crouse According to my research, based upon the information I have been given and tracked down through an on-line records search, I have found the following information concerning the union of Rebecca & Miles Jones. Up to this point, we were unable to find a maiden name for Rebecca. In most of the on-line and available census records, she is listed by her married name of Rebecca Jones. Through my mother and her sisters, we were able to establish a possible surname of CROUSE. Through a lucky hit on an internet genealogy web site, that supposition has been proven as correct. Stepping back a couple of generations the surname appears as CRAUSS in an earlier census (pre-1860) listing for Rebecca’s grandfather. But I digress, and will touch on this further in this essay. A bit of a history lesson is needed at this point for clarification of some dates and locations. Previous to 1784, the Province or British Colony of New Brunswick and the State of Maine did not exist as the area was part of the British Colonies of Nova Scotia and Massachusetts. Only through the American Revolution and an act of the British Parliament in 1784 did this area become the British Colony of New Brunswick and did not become a Province until the Act of Confederation in 1867. Some of the place names have changed or have been amalgamated into other larger nearby communities. -

When the staff/Council relationship doesn’t work, the lack of trust can limit the effectiveness of the municipality and can damage the way the municipality is viewed by the community. CHAPMAN Henry Harvey Stuart (1873 - 1952): New Brunswick Reformer Printer, reporter, columnist and editor, teacher and preacher, temper ance worker, union organizer and socialist missionary, municipal and pro vincial politician, police magistrate and justice of the peace — Henry Harvey Stuart was all of these. His multifarious activities were dominated, however, by a single theme — the regeneration of society through education and social reform — and his union and political activities, which provide the focus of this paper, establish his claim to be considered New Brunswick's leading reformer for the first half of the twentieth century. Of course, New Brunswick has had a conservative reputation and has usually given short- shrift to would-be reformers. Yet Stuart's activities reveal that this province too shared in the collectivist responses to industrialization and unbridled capitalism which appeared in Great Britain and North America in the closing decades of the nineteenth century. Stuart's early and vigorous espousals of socialism and the social gospel place him in the vanguard of individuals promoting such movements both in New Brunswick and in Canada as a whole. In his own province he shared the leadership of the single tax movement with Frank L. Potts of Saint John and played a prominent role in the growth of trade unionism and labor politics. Although it is not yet possible to assess definitively Stuart's influence in and upon each of these movements — no one has yet attempted their New Brunswick histories — an examination of his career provides a useful window from which to view them. Henry Harvey Stuart was born 9 August 1873, in the parish of Northfield near North Minto, New Brunswick, the son of John Palmer Stuart of Canning, New Brunswick, and his first wife Margaret Craig of Harvey.1 John Palmer Stuart was a school teacher, a minor poet, and a cousin of William Lloyd Garrison the abolitionist. -

Committee: Director Date Approved by Council Authorized signature Date Page 2 Village of Harvey Emergency Measures Plan INTRODUCTION The Municipal Emergency Response Plan outlines herein comprise two parts. Part I is the Basic Plan. Part II, the Individual Plans, provides detailed plans for the various departments and agencies involved in the emergency preparedness operation. This plan was prepared in conjunction with the provincial Emergency Measures 0rganization. All appointed and elected municipal officials employees involved in the plan must be aware of and prepared to carry out, their responsibilities and duties during the emergency situation. The plan’s success and effectiveness depends on their commitment. Federal, Provincial and volunteer agencies having a role in the plan must be prepared to meet their responsibilities, and also must be kept informed of any planned revisions. The plan is to be exercised annually, in full or in part. We hope it will never have to be used in crises. Nonetheless, being prepared for emergencies may help to reduce injuries, loss of life and damage to property, should a disaster or emergency occur.
