SPEAKERS BIO

Desmond Gardner Desmond is a Financial Instruments Advisor at the European In- vestment . He is a member of the fi-compass advisory team which seeks to support managing authorities and other stakehol- ders with the implementation of financial instruments under the European Structural Investment Funds. He also supports projects through the European Investment Advisory Hub that seeks to mobilise investment as part of the Investment Plan for Europe. Prior to joining the EIB, Desmond occupied a number of senior positions as a lawyer in the City of Manchester, working in urban development and transport, as well as in connection with the establishment of the Evergreen Urban Development Fund under the European Commission’s JESSICA initiative.

Mario Calderini Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Manchester, Mario is full Professor at Politecnico di Milano, School of Management, where he teaches Social Innovation. He is the Director of Alta Scuola Politecnica and Executive Vice President of Fondazione Politecnico. He is the Director of Tiresia, the Politecnico di Milano School of Management’s Research Centre for Impact Finance and Innovation. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Minister of University Research and Innovation and a Gover- nment’s Sherpa for the G7 Italian Presidency 2017. His numerous publications in highly ranked international journals cover several topics in the field of innovation and social impact finance. He has been a member of the G8 Task Force for Social Impact In- vestment, he chaired the Italian Advisory Board on Social Impact Finance, he is the President of the Scientific Committee of the Social Impact Agenda for Italy Association (Italy’s NAB). He sits in the Italian Government’s Advisory Group on Social Entrepreneur- ship and Impact Measurement and he contributed to promote the social innovation agenda in Italy, launching the sector’s first public consultation. He has been part of the Government’s Advisory Group that drafted the new law on social entrepreneurship. He is currently a member of the Government’s Task Force on Social Impact Investment. He sits in the Director’s Board of the newly established Nesta Italy Foundation. Filippo Addarii Filippo is Founding Partner and CEO of PlusValue. He has 15 ye- ars’ experience in designing, fundraising for and managing Euro- pean multi-stakeholder projects for socio-economic development through innovative approaches and civic engagement in the EU and worldwide. His projects have been funded by the European Commission, British Foreign Office, UN Fund for Democracy, pri- vate foundations and corporations. He is currently a member of the European Commission’s Strategic Policy Forum on Digital Entrepreneurship. He’s also senior advi- sor on impact investment strategy of Fondazione San Patrignano (Italy) one leading on the development of a new generation of social impact finance instruments working with , BNP, Banca Sella and Banca Esperia. Filippo holds a Master of Research in Urban Studies and Affairs from UCL and a MA in Non-Profit Management from Universita degli Studi di Urbino. He has successfully completed executive courses at Harvard Kenne- dy School (Civil Society Leadership Management), at INSEAD (So- cial Enterprise) and at CASS Business School (Centre for Charity Effectiveness, London, UK).

Adriana Versino Adriana has worked from 2012 to 2015 in YOOX-Net-a-Porter Group in the Office of the CEO and in Finance & Administration Department. She participated at the development of new strategic partnerships and at the integration with Net-a-Porter Group. Previous to YOOX, Adriana gained a significant experience in structured finance and in consulting, working at AF Mezzanine SGR and at McKinsey&Company. She started her career in IG Partners, an M&A/advisory boutique created by a prominent bu- siness angel. She holds a Degree in Business Administration from Bocconi University of Milan.

Simone Fumagalli Simone has been working in the financial field since 2008, with relevant experiences in Relationship Management and Project Design and Management. His academic background includes a Degree in Economics and a Master’s of Business Administration at MIP - Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business with a major in Entrepreneurship Studies at Emlyon Business School. In 2016 he took part in the Design Thinking International Program organised by Aalto Univer- sity Design Factory (Finland). Since 2016 he has been Executive Assistant to the CEO at Banca Prossima, the bank within Group dedicated to the Social Economy, supporting the CEO in the design, delivery and management of strategic projects regarding Social Impact Finance. Passionate about Behavioral Sciences, Technology and Innovation, he is actively collaborating with many Social Enterpri- ses as Business Mentor and IT Consultant.Giovanni

Giovanni Franchina Giovanni is CEO and founder of Bepart, Società Cooperativa Im- presa Sociale, a nonprofit organization and an innovative startup that employs augmented reality to fill the city with art, design, vi- deos, sounds and words, so that everybody can create and install different contents or simply enjoy them in the urban spaces by means of a tablet or a smartphone. The organization wins a lot of awards like “IC Cultural Innovation” by Cariplo Foundation,Think for Social by Vodafone Foundation, Tandem Europe by MitOst, Digital Award 2017 by Meet the Media Guru and Regione Lom- bardia. Today Bepart has developed the best technology in the field of augmented reality and has numerous collaborations with prestigious organizations, artist and designers.

Marco Zappalorto Prior to Nesta, Marco worked for OmniCompete, managing the execution of prize competitions in a wide range of sectors for both the public sector and industry. He also worked for the Enterprise Europe Network (EU Commis- sion - DG Enterprise and Industry) within the London Chamber of Commerce where he provided advice to SMEs on EU issues and opportunities. Marco completed his BSc and MSc in Economics and Management in Italy and holds an MSc in European Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Francesco Mandruzzato Degree in Mechanical Engineering 1999 at Politecnico di Mila- no and MBA in Engineering & Contracting 2001 at MIP – School of Management-In Lendlease since 2005, previously in Techint Group. Rapidly evolving career with wide experience as Head of PPP & Infrastructure Development in Italy, infrastructure asset in- vestment management, M&A, deal origination, bidding and execu- tion, and valuable knowledge of international infrastructure mar- ket. Leader for origination, acquisition, structuring and financing of Brescia and Treviso PFI Hospital deals, as Bid Director (value projects ca. €250m – LL leader of Equity Sponsors and D&C JV). CEO of Ospedal Grando SpA (Treviso PFI Hospital Special Pur- pose Vehicle), CEO of Ospedal Grando Impact Investing (social impact vehicle) and CEO of Finanza e Progetti SpA (Lendlease Italian infrastructure investment company); PPP Development Manager for Arexpo urban regeneration project.

Fiorenza Lipparini Fiorenza is a Founding Partner and Director of Research. She le- ads on research activities and focuses on social entrepreneurship, socio-economic impact assessment tools and techniques, digi- tal social innovation and funding, governance and evaluation of multi-stakeholder partnerships for the delivery of societal goods. Before founding PlusValue, Fiorenza was EU Policy Senior Analyst at the Young Foundation, and earlier a policy analyst for Intesa Sanpaolo, in Brussels. Among her publications, Vision and trends of social innovation for Europe co-authored with Filippo Addarii, ‘ICT-Enabled Social Innovation to support the Implementation of the Social Investment Package – Mapping and Analysis of ICT-e- nabled Social Innovation initiatives promoting social investment in integrated approaches to the provision of social services: IESI Knowledge Map 2015’; in Misuraca, G., Kucsera, C., Lipparini, F., Voigt, C., Radescu, R.; (2016). She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature and Linguistics.

Arianna Lovera Arianna is Programme and Research Officer at Forum per la -Fi nanza Sostenibile (the Italian Sustainable Investment Forum). She has previously worked in the educational and training field, for organizations such as the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Political Studies Institute of Paris.Born in 1983, Arianna studied Philosophy in Turin. She holds a PhD in Economic Sociology from the Ecole des Hau- tes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris) and the Scuola Alti Studi of San Carlo Foundation (Modena), her thesis being focused on ethical in Italy and France.

Denise Di Dio Denise is postdoc researcher and Managing Director of Tiresia at Politecnico di Milano – Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering. Over the past 15 years she has been directly involved in policy-making at the national and local levels, and has consolidated her expertise in innovation and social inno- vation policies through the engagement with diverse public insti- tutions. In 2014, she started working at the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), where she contributed to the Na- tional Research Program 2015-2020, the National Specialization Strategy, and was named among the experts for the G7 Science 2017. She holds an MSc in Public Policy (University College of London) and a PhD in Institutions and Politics (Università Cattoli- ca di Milano). Member of RENA – Intelligenza collettiva al servizio dell’Italia since 2012.

Daniele Alfonsi Daniele is financial instruments advisor at the European Invest- ment Bank (EIB) – Advisory Services Department. Daniele ac- quired relevant experience on impact investing, having served in the operational team of three JESSICA urban development funds (Sardinia, Campania and Sicily) and having supported several So- cial Housing Funds and PPP initiatives in Italy. Daniele graduated in Economics and Finance at the University of Padua.

Alberto Boem Alberto gained a Master of Science in Economics at Università Bocconi in 2011 and started to work at Banca Etica in 2013. He is currently a credit analyst at the headquarter loan office in Padova and he is in charge of a project for designing the impact measu- rement system of the bank. He recently discussed a PhD thesis in Management of Sustainability at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa on the subject of impact measurement for social banking, focusing on the case of Banca Etica.

Karl H Richter Karl is the Head of Research and Knowledge for the UNDP SDG Impact Finance (UNSIF). His primary role is to lead the UNSIF research council, an international group of academic experts from leading uni- versities across the globe, to improve the analytical framework for so- cial impact investing. This diverse group of thought leaders has been assembled to oversee an ambitious research agenda for accelerating more commercial capital to flow intentionally towards supporting the SDGs. Karl also coordinates UNSIF’s work in managing impact eva- luation. In addition to his role at UNSIF, he is also the co-founder of En- gagedX, which specializes in providing bespoke consultancy, thought leadership, advocacy and policy work. He works internationally across private, public and social sectors. He is an experienced entrepreneur and has held leadership, management and executive positions. He is a member of Groupe d’Experts de la Commission sur l’Entrepreneuriat Social (GECES), which is appointed by the European Commission to advise on its Social Business Initiative, a senior fellow of the Finance Innovation Lab and an adviser to the Global Value Exchange. He also sits on the OECD expert group on social impact investing. Karl holds an MBA specializing in entrepreneurship and project management, and is the co-author of “Making Good in Social Impact Investment: Opportunities in an Emerging Asset Class”.
