A post-apocalyptic Western that follows a group of gunslingers as they look to rid a small town of a zombie plague. Being an old fan of Nick Carter, I decided to check out the zombie film, Dead 7. And well, let's put it this way, he needs to stick to singing. The acting was terrible! One thing I noticed about this movie is that there were different types of accents that the actors were The Deadly 7 to pull off. Yet they would seem to forget they were in character. One minute one of the male actors, if you can call him an actor, sounded like he was in the old west where this movie is supposed to take place and then the next he didn't have an accent at all. And I'm not talking about one actor in particular. There were a few laughs. The only thing good about Carter's performance was his looks. He didn't do well in his other films so making another was a huge mistake. With TV host Carrie Keegan playing the female lead. The plot The Deadly 7 start off well, and it doesn't develop at all. It's easy to root for the "boring" zombies. I'll say it again, Nick Carter needs to stick to singing. Maybe he had a good idea when starting this script and it didn't turn out well. Or maybe he just wanted to help himself and The Deadly 7 fellow former heartthrobs get some extra dough. I hate to be another viewer giving this film a bad review but let's face it, this one should have stayed back in the Old West where it came from. One should be used to bad Syfy channel movies by now! But this is one of the worst. I give Dead 7 1 out of 10 Washed Up Boybanders. Looking for something to watch? Choose an adventure below and discover your next favorite movie or TV show. I'm often drawn to a book because of its cover. There's nothing wrong with that. Why else would they hire people to make them attractive and spend so much time designing them to be eye-catching? And then there's the blurb on the back of The Deadly 7 book. These can range from evocative, cringeworthy, perplexing, or in some cases spoiler-y. Even after reading the back of the book jacket of today's book and seeing the title and looking at the cover image I was still surprised to dis Alright, I'll admit it. Even after reading the back of the book jacket of today's book and seeing the title and looking at the cover image I was still surprised to discover just what this book was about. Maybe you're all smarter than me. Can you guess what Deadly 7 by Garth Jennings is about just from the name? What if I told you that it was about a little boy who had 7 little monsters accompanying him on a rescue mission and each of them had a very separate personality? The main character of Deadly 7 is The Deadly 7 who comes across a machine which creates 7 monsters that only he can see. One is always sleeping, one is angry about pretty much everything, one keeps stealing everything in sight I almost hope you haven't because then I won't feel like such a dolt. This is Garth's debut novel but he's no stranger to writing as he was the genius behind the movie Sing. However, this book is pretty much nothing like that movie. This story feels like it could be rooted in our present but with a decided twist. There's an ever-present feeling of dread while flipping the pages of this book which honestly I think that a lot of kids feel at this age. Remember the anxiety and fear when you realized that you were changing and you didn't know into what? Jennings taps into that and uses the monsters as a way to illustrate it which I think is rather brilliant. I have to say that the plot of this is kinda all over the place but the writing is solid so I have hope that further books by him will be tightened up and be even better. Nonetheless, it was a quick read and entertaining and I think it would be a good springboard for conversation. Jul The Deadly 7, Daisebeeyourself rated it really liked it.

One Direction Infection: Media Representations of Boy Bands and their Fans Annie Lyons TC 660H Plan II Honors Program The University of Texas at Austin December 2020 __________________________________________ Renita Coleman Department of Journalism Supervising Professor __________________________________________ Hannah Lewis Department of Musicology Second Reader 2 ABSTRACT Author: Annie Lyons Title: One Direction Infection: Media Representations of Boy Bands and their Fans Supervising Professors: Renita Coleman, Ph.D. Hannah Lewis, Ph.D. Boy bands have long been disparaged in music journalism settings, largely in part to their close association with hordes of screaming teenage and prepubescent girls. As rock journalism evolved in the 1960s and 1970s, so did two dismissive and misogynistic stereotypes about female fans: groupies and teenyboppers (Coates, 2003). While groupies were scorned in rock circles for their perceived hypersexuality, teenyboppers, who we can consider an umbrella term including boy band fanbases, were defined by a lack of sexuality and viewed as shallow, immature and prone to hysteria, and ridiculed as hall markers of bad taste, despite being driving forces in commercial markets (Ewens, 2020; Sherman, 2020). Similarly, boy bands have been disdained for their perceived femininity and viewed as inauthentic compared to “real” artists— namely, hypermasculine male rock artists. While the boy band genre has evolved and experienced different eras, depictions of both the bands and their fans have stagnated in media, relying on these old stereotypes (Duffett, 2012). This paper aimed to investigate to what extent modern boy bands are portrayed differently from non-boy bands in music journalism through a quantitative content analysis coding articles for certain tropes and themes.

My e-mail address is: [email protected] When sending me an emailed letter of comment, please include your name and town in the message. ABOUT THE COVER: I took this photo on May 10 from the Bowmont cliffs of the Bow River in northwest Calgary, looking west over the suburb of Bowness. Snowmelt in the Rockies doesn’t begin until June. I’ll have more photographs of Bowmont Park in the next issue. THE LONG HAUL by Dale Speirs OPUNTIA 500 sounds like a stock car race. In March 1991, the first issue of this zine appeared. It has been steadily plodding forward ever since as a journal of record. Very few perzines have been as continuous as mine. OPUNTIA was only in print until 2014-03-31, when Canada Post jacked up postage rates to a breathtaking level. Domestic letter mail went from 63 cents to 85 cents, and to mail even a postcard internationally was $2.56. So this zine has been pdf ever since. A hearty thank you to the Website hosts for this zine. No one in my family is interested in zinedom, so I rely on others to archive this zine. I hope that 500 issues is not too many. I’m 65 now, so I won’t live to issue #1,000. AROUND COWTOWN photos by Dale Speirs Although I occasionally saw squirrels during the winter when chinooks blew through, it wasn’t until late April that they became a daily sight.
