Helpful Information on Dog and Cat Licensing Requirements

Any person residing in the City of Greeley owning, keeping, harboring or having custody of a dog or cat needs to obtain a license for such animal. Applications for dog or cat licenses are taken at the City of Greeley Finance Department, 1000 10th Street, Greeley, CO 80631 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Application for a license is due immediately after having become the owner of or after having begun to keep, harbor or have custody of any such dog or cat. Dogs specially trained to aid or assist handicapped or disabled persons and governmental police dogs are excepted from the licensing requirements of this Chapter and from payment of such fees as are set out in this Chapter. Any owner claiming any of these exceptions has the burden of proving to the satisfaction of the licensing authority that the dog in question is entitled to such exception.

Proof of current rabies vaccination is required before your pet can be licensed. A rabies vaccination certification from a licensed , which includes the rabies tag number, the date of the vaccination, the expiration of the vaccination, and the name of the veterinarian who administered the vaccination must be provided to complete the licensing process. Please provide a copy of current rabies vaccination when mailing or applying in person. We cannot accept the application if it is just written on the form.

Application fees for a three-year license are $20.00 for each altered animal or $30.00 for each unaltered animal provided the rabies vaccination is good for three years.

Application fees for a two-year license are $15.00 for each altered animal or $25.00 for each unaltered animal provided the rabies vaccination is good for two years.

Application fees for a one-year license are $10.00 for each altered animal or $15.00 for each unaltered animal provided the rabies vaccination is good for one year.

Upon acceptance of the completed license application and after payment of the license fee, you will be issued a durable tag stamped with an identifying number and year of issuance. Your pet should wear the tag at all times while outside of the owner’s premises.

Failure to license your pet could result in a summons to Municipal Court.
