  • The Hummingbird Project Trenchant Movies About Business Or Industry
The Hummingbird Project Trenchant movies about business or industry are rare. More frequently movies feature familiar stereotypes of the crass industrialist or the corporate giant. This may seem surprising, given that American life is so bound up in “business,” but it may be because the subject is seen as not inherently dramatic or lacking in necessary conflict. Still, filmmakers occasionally come up with an incisive take on the business world. Recently, the digitized, internet-charged world has appeared in some telling dramas, such as “Margin Call,” “The Social Network,” and “The Big Short.” A new entry into this genre is “The Hummingbird Project,” a modern economic tale by Canadian writer- director Kim Nguyen. It make not be a masterpiece, but it offers an intriguing premise and a pell-mell pace that makes it very watchable. “The Hummingbird Project” plunges us into the recent past of a Wall Street gone numbers-mad: the world of High-Frequency Trading. Second-generation immigrants and cousins Vincent and Anton Zaleski (Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skarsgård, respectively) are players in this high-stakes game where winning is measured in milliseconds. They come up with a plan to gain just one of those milliseconds of advantage by building a straight fiber-optic cable line between Kansas and New Jersey (and two stock exchanges), a scheme that could anticipate market quotes by a hair, thus making them millions. Their concept is so brilliant that they do not want to share it with their company, headed by Eva Torres (Salma Hayek), a fiery and manipulative trader. Instead, they strike out on their own with money from a wealthy investor and with the crucial codes that Anton has developed at work.

przedstawia film Kima Nguyena OKO NA JULIĘ (Eye On Juliet) Kanada 2017 96 min. Polska premiera: 20 lipca O FILMIE: Love story widziana z perspektywy… drona, w reżyserii Kima Nguyena, autora nominowanego do Oscara© za „Wiedźmy wojny”. Gordon (Joe Cole, znany z seriali „Peaky Blinders” i „Czarne lustro”) pracuje w amerykańskiej firmie ochraniającej rurociąg położony na północnoafrykańskiej pustyni. KIM NGUYEN: Reżyser i scenarzysta.

create, innovate, empower FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Gabrielle Whelan E-mail: [email protected] CINEQUEST FILM & CREATIVITY FESTIVAL 2019 LATINO CINEMA CELEBRATION There’s an incredible amount of talent exuding from the works of the Latino artists featured at the 2019 Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival. These films illuminate the varied and beautiful cultures across Latin America and put their key issues into the heart of the global conversation. This year’s works examine some of the significant themes recurring throughout Latin America, such as political unrest, extreme poverty, and the effects of drug cartels on everyday people, but they also tap into the lighter side of Latin cinema through hilarious comedies that explore alien worlds, the inner-workings of marriages, and the hilarious happenings of the strange and stylish elite. Throw in some spine-tingling horror, an uplifting look at the life of Patch Adams, and some compelling family dramas—not to mention Terry Gilliam’s eagerly-anticipated adventure-comedy—and you have a Latin recipe for festival gold. Cinequest is proud to represent the following Latino countries in its 2019 lineup: Mexico, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Guatemala and Spain. Screening and events will occur throughout the March 5th to 17th festival in San Jose and Redwood City, California.
