In 2017 the Church will celebrate theth 100 anniversary of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the three shepherd children of Fatima: Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, recognized by the Holy See in 1935. I felt that this anniversary could be an occasion for us to meditate on the Virgin Mary, as Mother of the Church and as our Mother. Therefore, my intention in this letter is not solely to speak on the message of Fatima but to reflect on the role of the Virgin Mary in the Church and in our life. This letter will have three chapters: 1. The Doctrine of the Catholic Church on the Virgin Mary,2. The Virgin Mary in the Liturgy, 3. The Rosary. In Tuy (Spain) on June 13th 1929, the Virgin Mary asked Lucy for the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart. On the 31st of October 1942, Pope Pius XII consecrated mankind to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and on March 25th 1984, Saint John Paul II, in communion with all the Bishops of the Church, renewed the consecration of mankind and of Russia before the 1 Sacred Heart Church 137395.indd 3 8/3/16 2:01 PM statue of the Virgin of Fatima in St. Peter’s square in the Vatican. Meditating on this request of our Lady of Fatima, I had the desire to consecrate our Vicariate to the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary. When I proposed this initiative to the clergy, I received very enthusiastic responses. Some of them had witnessed to the special graces their parishes received after such a consecration. I see it very opportune that, after the Year of Mercy, we address our attention to the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Mercy. What is the consecration to the Virgin Mary? "Consecration to the Mother of God," says Pope Pius XII, "is a total gift of self, for the whole of life and for all eternity; and a gift which is not a mere formality or sentimentality, but effectual, comprising the full intensity of the Christian life -‐ Marian life." This consecration, the Pope explained, "tends essentially to union with Jesus, under the guidance of Mary." By our consecration we promise to become dependent on Mary in all things: to offer all our prayersand oblations to God through Mary, and to seek every gift from God through Mary. And we do this withthe greatest confidence. Since she is our mother, she knows our needs better than we; and since she isQueenof Heaven, she has immediate access to the infinite treasury of graces in the Kingdom of her Divine Son. 2 Sacred Heart Church 137395.indd 4 8/3/16 2:01 PM Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, Son of theEternal Father; she is also Mother of all the Father's adopted children. As our Mother, she has been given the role of moulding us into the likeness of Jesus. I ask every parish priest, in communion with all his priests, to consecrate his parish, and the country where the parish is located, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Saturday, May 13, 2017: Memorial of Our Lady of Fatima. On that Saturday there will be only one Mass for all the faithful. Undoubtedly, this consecration will have an influence on us and on our faithful if we take the proper initiatives. I shall offer some suggestions in this letter. Also, a prayer of consecration will be sent later. We are used to invoking the Virgin Mary as “Our Lady of Arabia”. It is not a contradiction with “Our Lady of Fatima” or “Our Lady of Lourdes”, etc. It is always the same Virgin Mary, invoked with different titles according to the places (Fatima, Lourdes, the Gulf) or to our needs (Consoler of the afflicted, Health of the sick, Refuge of sinners, etc.). “I will always invoke your protection! Your name, O Mary, your gentle heart!” (Sister Lucia). 3 Sacred Heart Church 137395.indd 5 8/3/16 2:01 PM CONTENTS The Doctrine of the Catholic Church on the Virgin Mary The Virgin Mary in the Liturgy The Rosary Towards the consecration of our Vicariate to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. 4 Sacred Heart Church 137395.indd 6 8/3/16 2:01 PM 1. The Doctrine of the Catholic Church on the Virgin Mary The Christian prayer is always offered to the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Trinity, oneGodin three Persons, is the base of our Christian faith. From all eternity God the Father has thought to choose Mary of Nazareth as the Mother of his Son and gave her gifts that nobody else had. In fact, owing to the death-‐ resurrection of Jesus, the Virgin Mary was born without the stain of original sin. “When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman… so that we might receive adoption” (Gal 4:4-‐5). We proclaim in the Creed: “For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary”. This mystery has been revealed to us and is continuously believed in by the Church. We say in the first Eucharistic prayer:In “ communion with those whose memory we venerate, especially the glorious ever Virgin Mary, Mother of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ”. Since she became the Mother of the Son of God, she is the beloved daughter of God the Father. In the Virgin Mary everything is in relation to Christ and depends on Him. Christ is the only mediator between us and God: 5 Sacred Heart Church 137395.indd 7 8/3/16 2:01 PM “For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as ransom ” for all (1Tm 2:5-‐6). The second Vatican Council affirms: “But Mary’s function as mother of men in no way obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ, hows but rather s its power” (LG 60). With a very simple example we can say that the role of the Virgin Mary for us is similar to the role of a mother in a family: to listen, to present, to intercede. When we forget the place of the Virgin Mary in our Christian life, we forget our Mother, we become orphans. Her motherhood started at the annunciation, was maintained firm at the feet of the cross and, in heaven, she continues to intercede for us. She is mother, so she takes care of the brothers and sisters of herSon. We have a synthesis of the continuous presence ofthe Virgin Mary in the life of Jesus in the Preface ofthe Solemnity of Our Lady of Arabia: “She was the first herald of your mercy when, having humbly accepted your will, she hastened to her cousin Elizabeth, carrying in her womb your Word made flesh. She was with your Son when, at Cana in Galilee, he began to manifest through signs your love for all mankind. 6 Sacred Heart Church 137395.indd 8 8/3/16 2:01 PM She told the servants to do all that he commanded, thus teaching them and all of us that obedience to Jesus is the source of a life without end. On Calvary she shared in the agony of your crucified Son, and with the Apostles in the Upper Room she received the gift of the Spirit, thus sealing her mission as mother of all peoples”. Every devotion to the Virgin Mary is Christian ifit encourages to participate more often and in a better way in the Liturgy, especially in the Eucharist where we have the “very special presence” of Jesus Christ. When somebody neglects the Eucharist or leaves it because the Marian devotion is not according to his/her desire, it shows that he/she has an attachment to theMarian devotion that is not according to the will of the Virgin Mary whose mission is to bring the children of God to Jesus. A devotion to the Blessed Virgin is truewhen “ the Son is duly known, loved and glorified ... when the mother is honoured” (LG 66), such devotion should bean approach to Christ, the source and centre of ecclesiastical communion. The Virgin Mary has a special relation also with the Holy Spirit. The Annunciation is the culminating moment of the Spirit’s action in the history of salvation. Texts like: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you” (Lk 1:35) and 7 Sacred Heart Church 137395.indd 9 8/3/16 2:01 PM “[Mary} was found with child through the Holy Spirit…It is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her” (Mt 1:18.20), made of Mary the “Tabernacle of the Lord” (St. Jerome). The Virgin Mary is related to the Holy Trinity, but she is a creature, she is not God. We don’t adore the Virgin Mary, we adore only God; but we venerate theVirgin Mary as Mother of God and our mother.

  • In Fatima on the 8Th Day of the Novena
The Message of Fatima 100th Anniversary – 2017 1914-Apparition At 7 years old I (Lucia) began tending our flock of sheep. One day as we (Lucia & some friends) saw for the 1st time a figure that had a human shape, whiter than snow and which the sun turned transparent. This apparition recurred twice again without manifesting itself and always suspended in the air, over the wood at the bottom of the “Cabezo.” When questioned by her mother, “As I did not know how to explain clearly and to free myself from questions, I replied that it looked like someone wrapped in a very white sheet.” 1st 1916 Apparition of the Angel After quickly praying the rosary Lucia dos Santos with cousins Francisco & Jacinta Marto started to play a game. “We were feeding our flocks in a property belonging to my parents called “Chousa Velha,” which lies at the bottom of a hill called “Cabezo,” on the east side. It was there that the Angel appeared to us for the 1st time in the form of a youth, as white as snow, shining more brightly then the sun and as transparent as crystal. We began to see this light coming towards us and thus we gradually distinguished the features. We were taken by surprise and being half bewildered we did not say a word. On reaching us he said, “Don’t be afraid. I am the Angel of Peace. Pray with me!” And kneeling down, he bowed his forehead to the ground and made us repeat these words three times: My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I beg pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You.” “Pray thus.

  • Consecration and Fatima
CONSECRATION AND FATIMA by Prof. Américo Pablo López-Ortiz International President of the World Apostolate of Fatima The soul and essence of the Message of Fatima is the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This maternal heart revealed its secrets at Fatima, showing the little shepherds the wonders of God’s love and mercy. Through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Fatima seers experienced the mystery of God and were immersed in God as in an infinite ocean of love. The light that came out of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was God himself and in this light they could see themselves as in the best of mirrors. Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco contemplated the mystery of the Most Blessed Trinity, receiving a special understanding of God’s nature, and at the same time were able to receive a special understanding of their own nature, of their own conscience. This was necessary to prepare the children for their mission on earth. On June 13, 1929, the Immaculate Heart of Mary appeared to Sister Lucia at Tuy, Spain, as Our Lady had promised her on July 13, 1917, to remind us of the practice of the First Saturday’s devotion and the consecration to her Immaculate Heart as the two providential means offered to the modern world to achieve peace and salvation of numerous sinners. While Sister Lucia adored the Blessed Sacrament at midnight, the Most Holy Trinity appeared to her accompanied by the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Lucia received lights about this mystery that she was not allowed to reveal. Our Lady said: “The moment has come when God asks the Holy Father, in union with all the Bishops of the world, to make the consecration ofRussia to my Immaculate Heart, promising to save it by this means.” By the word “consecration” is meant “entrustment”.

  • Sr Lucia on the Consecration of Russia
Statements by Sr Lucia that Pope John Paul II’s act of consecration of Russia, on 25 March 1984, was “accepted by heaven”, and confirmed by an apparition of the Virgin 1). After the consecration of 25 March 1984, Sr Lucia was visited by the Apostolic Nuncio, who asked her, “Is Russia now consecrated” ? “Yes, now it is”, she answered. This report is taken from an interview with Sr Lucia that was published in Fatima Family Messenger, (Oct- Dec 1989, p. 7), published by the American priest authority on Fatima, Fr Robert Fox.. 2). On 8 November 1989, Sr Lucia sent a letter to Pope John Paul II in which she said that his consecration of 25 March 1984 “was done as Our Lady requested” — quoted in Fatima in Lucia’s Own Words, 16th edition, July 2007, page 124, note 11. 3). In its issue of March 1990, page 13, the prominent international Catholic journal 30 Days, informed its readers that Sr Lucia had agreed to give 30 Days three letters she wrote on the topic of John Paul II’s consecration of Russia on 25 March 1984, and that “in all three, Sr Lucia recognises [it] as ‘valid’”. 4). In the issue of 9 January 2002 of the English edition of L’Osservatore Romano, on page 7 there is a report of Archbishop Bertone’s conversation with Sr Lucia on 17 November 2001, at her Carmelite convent in Coimbra. The Archbishop asked her: “What have you to say about the stubborn assertions of Fr Gruner, who has been collecting signatures, asking the Pope to consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at last, as if this has never been done?” Sr Lucia - “The Carmelite community has rejected the forms for the collection of signatures.

John Background Image: Image: Tk n Fatima For today - The Urgent Marian Message of Hope Fr. Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R. hough the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima took place almost a hundred years ago, Our Lady’s call to prayer and penance for the salvation of souls and peace in the world is as relevant now as when first delivered to three Portuguese peasant Tchildren in 1917. At the peak of World War I, Our Lady warned of another worldwide conflict, the spread of Communism, and a terrible persecution of the Church unless people repented of their sins and returned to God. She also requested devotion to her Immaculate Heart and a special consecration of Russia. Much of what Our Lady of Fatima said was revealed soon after her appearances, but the third and final “secret”, a prophetic vision seen by the children, was not unveiled by the Vatican until 2000. Pope John Paul II, who read the third secret while recovering from the attempt upon his life in 1981, believed the vision signified the sufferings the Church had endured in the 20th century. Because of the prophetic nature of the messages, Fatima has been the subject of much controversy and speculation. In this book, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, a foremost expert on Fatima, carefully analyzes all the events and messages of Fatima, and clears up lingering questions and doubts about their meaning. He also challenges the reader to hear anew the call of Our Lady to prayer and sacrifice, for the world needs generous hearts willing to make repara- tion for those in danger of losing their way to God.

“Instaurare omnia in Christo” Make Our Hearts Like unto Thine Devotion to the Immaculate Heart The Consecration of Russia Co-Redemptrix July - August 2013 Theme Make Our Hearts Like unto Thine Devotion to the Immaculate Heart by Fr. Pierre Duverger, SSPX 1 The primary source for Three times in 1916, three little children saw an Angel. The following year, the writing of this article and the following one is Fatima became famous. Our Lady appeared from May to October on the the recent work by Joseph de Belfont: Mysteries and 13th of the month. She came and spoke to Lucy, the oldest. Jacinta heard the Hidden Truths of the Third words, but Francisco was only able to see the visions.1 Secret of Fatima [French] (Lanore, 2011). Prayers and sacrifices for sinners, the recitation of the rosary, hell and war, offenses against God and His Mother, secrets to be revealed later, announcement of wars, conversion of Russia and a miracle to come—all these things attracted more than 70,000 people on October 13, 1917. In front of this immense crowd, after a heavy rain which left everyone muddy and tired, the sun danced before everyone, witnesses of this unique miracle, never seen since Joshua. Between 1925 and 1930, Sister Lucy continued to receive instructions to complete and transmit the message and the secrets. The first and second World Wars would start and finish as prophesied by the Queen of Peace. Almost a century later, the Third Secret of Fatima, supposedly revealed by the Vatican in 2000, is still the object of inquiry, and the specific request made to the Pope is still incomplete despite various attempts.

The following is a psycho-mythic-spiritual examination of the emergence of Feminine Consciousness in Western Civilization. The key focus is on the Roman Church’s proclamations on Mary, the biblical Mother of Jesus. During the Crimean War (1853-56) the Catholic Church issued a Papal Bull (1854) proclaiming the Immaculate Conception of Mary. In pronouncing this encyclical, the Church made it an article of faith that Mary was born without sin. Symbolically, it may be said that the Immaculate Conception freed the feminine from the mythic curse placed on Eve (and the feminine) when she was exiled from Paradise for eating of a forbidden fruit. In brief, feminine consciousness was freed from the shackles of “unworthiness.” Today weapons of mass destruction abound and there is serious concern that their use will cause humanity, as a whole, great harm. As wars increase their destructiveness, there is a growing awareness for the need for feminine consciousness on earth as in the Theosphere. This curse laid on the feminine in Genesis solidified patriarchal order. Patriarchal rule on earth fell in step with the patriarchal system that existed in Heaven. There is an alchemical dictum "As Above, So Below." The Below refers to humanity’s earthly dwelling. The Above represents the place of the apprehended but unknowable God; it refers to the heavens, to the Theosphere.
