Se trata de un certamen dinámico que con los años ha logrado ser un evento de referencia del género Western a nivel internacional. Su carácter lúdico-cultural con una programación mimada y variada donde todas la edades tienen cabida lo consolida como una de las citas imprescindibles de Almería ‘Tierra de Cine’. La apuesta del Ayuntamiento de Tabernas, principal promotor del Festival, se ha visto recompensada por el reconocimiento de las instituciones, de los profesionales del sector cinematográfico y, lo más importante, por la afluencia de público que asiste cada año, convirtiéndolo en un evento plural y aglutinador de nuevas ideas e iniciativas cinematográficas. AWFF de Tabernas acoge cada año a profesionales, aficionados, familias, turistas nacionales e internacionales. Una cita para todos aquellos que quieren disfrutar, descubrir e indagar en el género western. La programación tiene como objetivo mostrar las nuevas tendencias del género a nivel mundial, dando cabida a todos los formatos: largometrajes, cortometrajes, documentales, entre otros. La particularidad del festival, es su carácter ontológico: desde hace más de cincuenta años el cine está vinculado con la provincia de Almería, interviniendo en la vida de su gente: en su especialización laboral, en su cultura y en la exportación de sus paisajes naturales a través del cine, motivando el desarrollo socio-económico y turístico. Resulta imposible disociar la provincia de Almería del audiovisual en todas sus facetas; Un patrimonio cuyo pasado hay que valorizar y apostar por el presente y el futuro. Entradas: todas las actividades son gratuitas hasta completar aforo a excepción del día 13 de octubre que es necesario entrada para acceder a Oasys MiniHollywood. Transporte: del 12 al 14 de octubre, se dispondrán autobúses gratuitos desde Almería a Tabernas con traslados a los poblados del oeste el día que desarrollan actividades. ALMERÍA WESTERN FILM FESTIVAL DEL 11 AL 14 DE OCTUBRE DE 2017 www.almeriawesternfilmfestival.es JURADO | SECCIÓN OFICIAL DE LARGOMETRAJES PRESIDENTE: FERNANDO MÉNDEZ-LEITE Director, guionista y escritor cinematográfico. Nació en Madrid en 1944. Fue director general del Instituto Nacional de Cinematografía entre 1986 y 1988. Dirigió la Escuela de Cinematografía de Madrid (ECAM) entre 1993 y 2001, el espacio televisivo ‘La noche del cine español’ entre 1983 y 1985 y en la actualidad es co-presentador de ‘Versión Española’ (La 2) y colaborador de ‘Historias de nuestro cine’. Ha publicado varios libros y es crítico de cine en las revistas Fotogramas y La Guía del Ocio, especializado en el género western. Forma parte del Comité de selección de la Seminci de Valladolid, del Festival de San Sebastián y del Festival de Málaga. Ha dirigido cine, televisión y teatro, destacando ‘El hombre de moda’ (1981, con Carmen Maura) o ‘La regenta’ (1995, con Aitana Sánchez-Gijón y Carmelo Gómez), ‘El productor’ (2006) por la que fue nominado al Premio Goya o ‘La calumnia’. IVÁN ALEDO Montador cinematográfico. Montador con más de treinta años de experiencia profesional. Comenzó trabajando para los programas informativos de TVE y Vivir cada día, una de sus primeras aproximaciones a la ficción. A finales de los años ochenta empieza a trabajar en cine, montando ‘Mientras haya luz’ (1987) y ‘El mejor de los tiempos’ (1989), ambas de Felipe Vega, y ‘Ander Eta Yul’ (Ana Díez, 1989). Desde entonces ha trabajado en thrillers, comedias, cine de aventuras, telefimes y series de ficción, destacando sus colaboraciones con Julio Medem, Javier Fesser, Luis García Berlanga, Miguel Bardem, Gerardo Olivares y Antonio Hernández. Ha sido nominado al Premio Goya en siete ocasiones, y lo ha ganado por los largometrajes ‘Los amantes del Círculo Polar’ (Julio Medem, 2001) y ‘La gran aventura de Mortadelo y Filemón’ (Javier Fesser, 2003). Sus últimos trabajos han sido el montaje de la serie de ficción ‘El Príncipe’ (2014-16), ‘Ma ma’ (Julio Medem, 2015) y ‘El faro de las orcas’ (Gerardo Olivares, 2016). “El género western mantiene vivo el deseo de desplazarnos a un lugar más allá de nuestros horizontes, de creer que aún existe ese lugar. Que sólo tenemos que seguir al sol que se pone. Un deseo que en algunos de nosotros está más vivo que nunca, ahora que dicen que no hay horizontes, y que nada puede ser más despiadado y salvaje que la tierra que pisamos”. Director de fotografía con más de veinticinco años de experiencia profesional. Tras varios cortometrajes, debutó como director de fotografía de las películas ‘Piedras’ (Ramón Salazar, 2002) y ‘Utopía’ (María Ripoll, 2003), antes de dar el gran salto con la producción internacional ‘Los Dalton contra Lucky Luke’ (Philippe Haïm, 2004), que rodó en Tabernas. Volvió a Almería para fotografiar el segundo largometraje de Manuel Martín Cuenca, ‘Malas temporadas’ (2005). En los últimos años ha combinado su labor como fotógrafo y realizador de publicidad con la dirección de fotografía de ‘Mía Sarah’ (Gustavo Ron, 2006), ‘Vidas pequeñas’ (Enrique Gabriel, 2010) o ‘Lo contrario al amor’ (Vicente Villanueva, 2011). Es hijo de Yvonne Blake, figurinista hispano-inglesa y actual presidenta de la Academia de Cine. “El western es la máxima expresión del cine. Yo aprendí a amar el cine viendo películas de vaqueros con mi padre”. MANUEL MARTÍN CUENCA Guionista, director y productor. Nació en El Ejido (Almería) en 1964. Tras formarse en Granada y en Madrid, se inició en el cine como asistente de dirección y script junto a directores como Felipe Vega, Alain Tanner, Mariano Barroso o Icíar Bollaín. En los años noventa dirigió tres cortometrajes de ficción y se estrenó en el largometraje con el documental ‘El juego de Cuba’ (2001). Su primera película fue ‘La flaqueza del bolchevique’ (2003), adaptación de la novela de Lorenzo Silva. En 2004 fundó su propia productora, La Loma Blanca PC, junto a su co-guionista habitual Alejandro Hernández. Sus siguientes largometrajes fueron ‘Malas temporadas’ (2005), el documental ‘Últimos testigos: Carrillo’ (2009) y ‘La mitad de Óscar’ (2010). Su última película estrenada hasta la fecha, ‘Caníbal’ (2013) ganó el Premio ASECAN al mejor largometraje, las medallas CEC al mejor director y al mejor guión adaptado y fue nominada a ocho Premios Goya, ganando el de mejor fotografía. En noviembre de 2017 estrenará ‘El autor’, basada en la novela de Javier Cercas, con la que acaba de ganar el Premio FIPRESCI en el Festival de Toronto. “El western es un cine de Fronteras desde las cuales se es capaz de entender el núcleo y la formación de una civilización. Hoy más que nunca el género humano vive una etapa de fronteras y el western debe estar ahí para contarlo”. Diplomado en Dirección de Fotografía en Málaga y en la Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Cantalunya (ESCAC). Tiene una extensa experiencia en varios campos y estilos cinematográficos, y ha trabajado con muchos profesionales en películas y en videos musicales alrededor del mundo: Estados Unidos, Chile, Argentina, Mali, Portugal, Estonia, etc. Ha sido el director de fotografía de varios largometrajes, incluyendo Diamantes negros (2013), El árbol magnético (2013), 321 días en Michigan (2014) o La isla del viento (2016) por la que ganó la Biznaga de Plata en el Festival de Málaga de Cine Español. “El western es para mí el único género que mantiene un esquema narrativo y visual reconocible aunque la acción se sitúe en un lugar y un tiempo muy distinto a sus conocidos orígenes. Sin importar si es en Japón o en Texas”. ENRIQUE IZNAOLA Escritor y crítico cinematográfico, director y gestor cultural. Con casi treinta años de experiencia, actualmente coordina los Encuentros con el Cine Español y es director de la Muestra de Cine Español Inédito en Jaén de la Diputación Provincial, el Concurso de Cortometrajes Rodando por Jaén y el Festival de Cortometrajes Diputación de Jaén
