The three sites lie along two globally significant migratory flyways and each enables the project to demonstrate solutions to different issues affecting Kazakhstan’s wetland biodiversity resources. In doing so, it will assist the government to meet its commitments under the Ramsar Convention, due to be signed in 2004. The meeting was chaired by Mr Akhmetzhan Yessimov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The EU delegation was led by Mr Bernard Bot, Foreign Minister of the Netherlands. The European Commission was represented by Mr Michael Leigh, Deputy Director General for External Relations. The Cooperation Council was the first meeting at this level between the EU and Kazakhstan since the EU enlarged to 25 Member States on 1 May 2004. The meeting came just over five years after entry into force, on 1 July 1999, of the EU-Kazakhstan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA). It therefore marked the half-way point in the initial 10 year period of the PCA. The Cooperation Council welcomed the recent historic enlargement of the European Union and the timely signature of the Protocol on accession of the ten new Member States to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Kazakhstan. It looked forward to ratification of this. The research objectives include a cultural analysis, a market segmentation and water treatment analysis, as well as search of potential customers. It provides information about the progress of sales, implemented by opening a representative office and participation in exhibitions. The followed ways of improving marketing strategy, such as the development of a website, logo, brochures, business cards, a catalogue and a social network’s pages, developed during the thesis project, are discussed. The theoretical framework presents information about the relations between Finland and Kazakhstan, barriers to enter the Kazakhstani market, international market entry, industry market potential, market segmentation, the opportunities for Water Team Oy Ltd. to promote their business, and e-marketing development. The researcher used and applied the theories of Grove, Hofstede, Armstrong and Kotler, Dann, House and Bradley. The empirical framework includes two types of research methodology: quantitative and qualitative. A quantitative approach was followed by implementing an online survey in different regions of Kazakhstan.
