I have explained in those books that he taught me sorcery but not as we understand sorcery in the context of our daily world: the use of supernatural powers over others, or the calling of spirits through charms, spells, or rituals to produce supernatural effects. For don Juan, sorcery was the act of embodying some specialized theoretical and practical premises about the nature and role of perception in molding the universe around us. Following don Juan's suggestion, I have refrained from using shamanism, a category proper to anthropology, to classify his knowledge. I have called it all along what he himself called it: sorcery. On examination, however, I realized that calling it sorcery obscures even more the already obscure phenomena he presented to me in his teachings. In anthropological works, shamanism is described as a belief system of some native people of northern Asia-prevailing also among certain native North American Indian tribes-which maintains that an unseen world of ancestral spiritual forces, good and evil, is pervasive around us and that these spiritual forces can be summoned or controlled through the acts of practitioners, who are the intermediaries between the natural and supernatural realms. Don Juan was indeed an intermediary between the natural world of everyday life and an unseen world, which he called not the supernatural but the second attention.

A total of 29 participants participated in this study (art therapy program group, n = 18; control group, n = 11). The art therapy program group received eight weekly sessions of art therapy lasting 60 min each. Pre- and post-test results showed positive changes in the brain function index and stress levels of the participants in the art therapy program group. On the self-esteem scale, overall and social self-esteem increased significantly. In conclusion, creative activities in the forest can increase resistance to diseases through mechanisms that relieve stress and increase self-esteem. The inclusion of art making in therapy is the vital difference between psychotherapy and art therapy. Whilst this may appear obvious, it is easy to become lost in the similarities of the two therapies and confuse about the differences. Although some art therapists still choose to use varying degrees of verbal interaction with their patients, the role of the image and the process of art making are the key factors in art therapy. To an onlooker there may appear little difference between art therapy and an art activity conducted by another health professional, teacher or artist. The distinguishing components are the purpose for which the art is being created and the thinking and understanding on the part of the therapist.

By examining working-class literature that adopts the rhetoric of “feeling right” in order to promote a proletarian ideology as well as neo-slave narratives that wrestle with the legacy of slavery, this study explores the ways contemporary authors engage with familiar sentimental tropes and ideals. Despite modernism’s influential assertion that sentimentalism portrays emotion that lacks reality or depth, narrative claims to feeling— particularly those based in common and recognizable forms of suffering—remain popular. It seems clear that such authors as Grace Lumpkin, Josephine Johnson, John Steinbeck, Margaret Walker, Octavia Butler, and Toni Morrison apply the rhetorical methods of sentimentalism to the cultural struggles of their age. Contemporary authors self-consciously struggle with sentimentalism’s gender, class, and race ideals; however, sentimentalism’s dual ability to promote these ideals and extend identification across them makes it an attractive and effective mode for political and social influence.

How are public art monuments that commemorates, honors, reminds, catalogues regarded, critiqued and transformed in the present? This project-based interdisciplinary course will focus on the development of skill sets in making, designing, critical thinking and realization of: a public artwork proposal, a public art intervention project, and an installation project.

Vahtang Mark Shervashidze 1 ABSTRACT The history of the labyrinth in Western thought is intimately connected with the development of Christianity and the philosophical movements associated with it. Roughly speaking, the labyrinth has passed through three periods of development. First, there were the Minoan and Greek sources of the Theseus cycle, which are the foundation of 1abyrinth-1 ore. The Greeks also provided the analogical structure which allowed the labyrinth to expand its repertoire of metaphor beyond mythology into literature. Secondly, perhaps due to the renascence of classical literature in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the labyrinth enjoyed some popularity in France and Italy. Here we must distinguish between purely conceptual, literary labyrinths and the artifactual examples which dot cathedral and church floors across the lie de France and Italy.

À travers le nom de cette ville se dégage le stéréotype parfaitement reconnaissable des banlieues proprettes des grandes villes américaines (celles des quartiers résidentiels des wasp ou de la middle class).
