BC Games 2012 and 2014 BC Winter Games My Games Goal I am looking forward to having a successful competition and helping BC earn provincial points. It is my last competition of the season so I am looking for personal best scores and a strong finish as a junior. Best Results 1 METER: 254.10 3 METER: 258.10 platform 219.25 My Past Awards This year I was selected to represent Canada as a part of the youth team in Dresden, Germany. This was my first international meet and I was very proud to represent Canada! My Role Model My role model is a gymnast named Shae Zamardi. We were team mates in gymnastics and moved to Vancouver to train. She made Team Canada and has been at Louisiana State University on a scholarship. She has shown me that perseverance is important in sports. Other Information I was both a diver and a gymnast when I was 8 but chose to specialize in gymnastics. Lisa, my diving coach, teased my mom and said I would be back. I made it on the National High Performance list and have a silver medal from floor at gymnastics nationals but missed home too much as I was training in Vancouver. We moved back to the island then 5 years ago I switched back to diving. Lisa would tease me and say we had to train the gymnast out of me since there are many technique differences between the two sports, including learning to land on your head instead of your feet. I have an athletic brother, Brodie who plays lacrosse at a high level and has been on Team BC for Box Lacrosse Nationals. Our relationship is of an extremely competitive nature, and because he is a rower as well it helps us both further our potentials. Other Information When I was in Grade 9 I was extremely unathletic, I'd never truly played any competitive sports in my life. I joined both the rowing and rugby teams just to try them out, but many people told me that because of my short height and stalky build I wouldn't be a good rower. I was discouraged, but my first coaches Harold Backer and Simon Vermegan pushed me to carry on rowing despite my great genetic disadvantages. They told me that hard work is the most important aspect of rowing, not natural genetic gifts. The concept of having the deck stacked against me was enthralling, and I was addicted to the sport immediately.
