The tightly plied texture and vivid colors of the yarn create an unusually elastic fabric with a unique softness and elasticity which enhances to the maximum ribbing, cables, bobbles and leaves. The result is a romantic and fresh design that, if knitted in Circe, will add that light touch of protection in cool but not yet cold weather, if knitted in Amore is perfect for the winter cold. Kathleen Collins, the coordinator of Reference Services for the Odegaard Undergraduate Library at the University of Washington (UW) and a sociology subject librarian and chil- 38 Resources for a dren’s and young adult literature librarian for the UW Librar- ies, offers thirty-eight resources that can create and support a knitting core collection. Collins taught herself to knit fifteen Core Collection years ago from library books. Her guides were Maggie Righetti’s Knitting in Plain English, Barbara Walker’s Learn-to-Knit Afghan Book, and a small pamphlet she’s long since lost. She currently has a shelf full of knitting books, three hampers’ worth of yarn stash, and six projects in progress on the needles.—Editor and-knitting has a long social history; the earliest known knitted garments are cotton sock fragments found in Egypt and dated to about two thousand years ago.     Welcome to the Knitting Illini! We are a social group that meets weekly to knit, chat and eat brownies. We welcome any skill level, from the absolute beginner to seasoned knitters with super-knitting skills. If you have any knitting supplies of your own such as yarn and knitting needles, please bring them with you to meetings as our club supply is low. Last year, club members worked on many personal knitting projects including hats, baby sweaters, blankets, scarves and more scarves! FINISHED BUST SIZE: 35 (37.5, 41, 41, 44, 49.5, 52.5) inches (bust is the same for both 41” sizes, but shoulders are slightly wider, and sleeves are 1.75” larger, on the second) YARN: approximately 750 (850, 950, 1050, 1150, 1250, 1350) yards of worsted weight yarn. This lace pattern is especially lovely in semi-solid yarns—I used Sundara Worsted Merino in “Green Over Ochre.” NEEDLES: • US 8 (5mm) 32” circular needle, or size needed to get gauge • US 8 (5mm) double-pointed needles, or size needed to get gauge • US 10 (6mm) needle (for bind-offs), or a needle 1mm larger than that used for sweater NOTIONS: • 6 stitch markers • three 7/8” buttons GAUGE: 18 stitches / 4” in garter stitch STITCH PATTERNS: • paired m1 (make one) increases: first increase of each pair: using the left needle, pick up horizontal strand between last stitch and next stitch, from the front.
