This volume is more an artbook compared to the previous two installments of the Alex Toth Genius series - and man, what artwork! Jul 01, Michael Emond rated it it was amazing. I heaped praise on the first volume of this trilogy and I will continue it for this book. I loved it. It is one of those books that I not only love, I am proud to have it on my bookshelf it looks so darn fine. A standing ovation to the creators of this book — this was obviously a labour of love for them and it shows. Why do I love it? All 25 years of it. There are many character designs, pages of coloured pr I heaped praise on the first volume of this trilogy and I will continue it for this book. There are many character designs, pages of coloured presentation art and, most exciting to me, story boards for two Super-friends episodes. Very cool. So it is mostly pages of artwork. But what artwork! So this is a book for lovers of Toth, animation, or gorgeous art books. Feb 02, Jeffrey rated it liked it. Interesting collection of animation work done by Alex Toth during his career. Unfortunately, much of his production work was lost or thrown away, so his significant contributions to numerous influential animation productions is lost to time. Its the latter two where this book offers something special because there's many never-before-seen to my knowledge samples of storyboards from Super Friends, and many of the pitch samples for animated cartoons that Hanna Barbera tried to get off the ground. “INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing.

  • Introduction to Super Friend
SOCIAL SKILLS ACTIVITY INTRODUCTION TO SUPER FRIEND Children have been developing an understanding of what is expected of them in social interactions since they were young toddlers. Adults facilitate this understanding by drawing attention to positive peer behaviors as they occur naturally throughout the day. One way to acknowledge these positive behaviors is through the use of the Super Friend visual cue. Drawing attention to children’s prosocial behaviors helps children learn what good friendship skills are, and they will start to use them naturally as they play and interact with their peers. This activity introduces children to a few foundational social skills through the idea of a “Super Friend.” CORE SKILL OBJECTIVES INTENTIONAL TEACHING PRACTICES Children will: Teachers will: ♦ Engage in and Maintain Positive ♦ Acknowledge Positive Peer Interactions SOCIAL SKILLS Relationships with Peers ♦ Join in the Play ♦ Engage in Cooperative Play with ♦ Provide Support During Peer Interactions Peers ♦ Use a Cue and Visual GET READY MATERIALS ♦ CSEFEL “I Can Be a Super Friend!” scripted story ♦ Scissors, Tape, Art Supplies ♦ CSEFEL Super Friend Cue Cards (included) ♦ Eye mask template (included) ♦ CSEFEL Super Friend Poster (included) ♦ String (elastic if possible) PREPARATION ♦ Cut out the six Super Friend Cue Cards (laminate if possible) and place in the hat. ♦ Create a booklet of “I Can Be a Super Friend!” by stapling together/binding. ♦ Cut out mask templates (cut out some extras, too).
