Tidevandstabellerne viser tidspunkter for høj- og lavvande samt de tilhørende tidevandshøjder, for havnene anført i indholdsfortegnelsen på side 2. Tidspunkter og højder er beregnet ved hjælp af harmoniske kon- stituenter. Konstituenterne er beregnet udfra lange kvalitetssikrede vandstandstidsserier. Rækkefølgen af tabellerne er geografisk sorteret med uret rundt om Grønland. Tidspunkterne for høj- og lavvande er angivet i vestgrønlandsk normaltid, som er UTC (Coor- dinated Universal Time) - 3 timer. Når sommertid gælder, skal de angivne tidspunkter øges med 1 time (UTC - 2 timer). Tidevandshøjderne er angivet i meter i forhold til kortnul, som er laveste astronomiske tidevand (LAT). Tidevandshøjderne skal således lægges til dybden i søkortet for at give dybderne ved høj- og lavvande. Ønskes tidevandshøjderne angivet i forhold til middelvandstand, adderes den negative LAT-værdi. Herved bliver højvande generelt positive og lavvande tilsvarende negative. Den lokale LAT-værdi er angivet som en negativ konstant i toppen af hver tidevandstabel. LAT er beregnet som den laveste tidevandsprediktion beregnet over perioden 1997-2016 (begge år inklusive). Høj- og lavvande er bestemt som lokale ekstrema, hvor forskellen mellem høj- og lavvande har minimum samme størrelse, som amplituden af solens primære halvdaglige konstituent S2. For meget komplekst tide- vand kan det betyde, at tidevandets primære periode skifter fra halvdagligt til dagligt omkring nip-tide, hvor udsvinget af tidevandet er mindst. Det understreges, at tabellerne kun beskriver de vandstandsændringer, som skyldes solens og månens tiltrækningskraft (astronomisk tidevand). De betydelige, og ofte dominerende ændringer, i vandstanden, som skyldes meteorologiske og oceanografiske forhold (vind, barometerstand, strøm o.l.), indgår således ikke i tabellernes opgivne vandstand. www.dmi.dk/dmi/DMIRep19-14.pdf page 4 of 270 DMI Report 19-14 Explanation of tables "Tide tables for Greenlandic waters 2020" is prepared by the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) using harmonic tidal constituents calculated by DMI and/or the Danish Maritime Safety Administration. The tide tables list the times for high and low water and the corresponding high and low tidal water heights, for the ports listed in the table of content on page 2. The times and heights are calculated using harmonic constituents. The constituents are calculated using long time quality checked time series of water level. The order of the tide tables are geographical sorted clockwise around Greenland. The times for high and low water are given in West Greenland standard time, which is UTC (Coor- dinated Universal Time - 3 hours). When summer time applies, one hour should be added (UTC - 2 hours). Tidal heights are in meters relative to chart datum which is lowest astronomical tide (LAT). Tidal heights should be added to the depth shown in the chart to obtain the water depths at high and low tide..

    Interests of the municipality of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq presented by Roar H. Olsen, chief of Environmental Section. E-mail: [email protected] The nearest settlement to the national park/Biosphere reserve is Illoqqortoormiut (or locally Ittoqqortoormiit) with its ~500 inhabitants, situated on the coast some hundred km south of the park, at the arm of the worlds largest fjord system Scoresbysund. The area was first mapped in 1822 by the English Arctic Explorer, Scientist and whaler William Scoresby, hence its Danish name Scoresbysund. Ruins, tent rings and traps bear evidence of a former relatively dense Eskimo population. The area was repopulated in 1924, initially by 70 young hunters from the East coast settlement at Ammassalik, now Tasiilaq, and from Greenlands west coast. The move provided better living conditions, enabling the settlers to take advantage of the excellent hunting area, but was also intended by the Danish authorities to give Denmark better cards in a strife with Norway over the sovereignty of East Greenland. Ittoqqortoormiit was the capital of an independent municipality the size of Sweden, until January 1 st 2009 when it merged with the remaining permanently populated areas of the Greenlandic East Coast as well as the capital Nuuk, the township Paamiut and a number of villages on the South West coast into the new municipality Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq covering an area the size of France. Being the northernmost settlement in the new enlarged municipality Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, Ittoqqortoormiit is situated 1.500 km from Nuuk and some 2.000 km from the southern end of the commune. For generations, the local hunters have made a living by hunting marine and land mammals, which are still today of great cultural and socio-economic significance.

    Renewable energy across the Arctic: Greenland Report EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Greenland has been partly self-supplying with energy since 1993 by help of hydropower plants. The national energy production is increasing, but Greenland still depends on imported oil, primarily gas oil, diesel and petrol. Greenland has firm green ambitions – and potentials – in the energy sector. The Government of Greenland is committed to developing new hydropower plants in five communities and to invest in renewable energy for small, isolated settlements (Government of Greenland, coalition agreement 2016-2018). By pairing large-scale industry with renewable energy, Greenland can take a lead position in sustainable business. A central driver for the Government of Greenland’s commitment to renewable energy is an urge for a self-sustained economy and financial independence from subsidies from Denmark. When replacing imported fossil fuels with national energy production, the Government of Greenland supports the national economy while reducing CO2-emissions. Many communities in Greenland are small, and the grid comprises today 69 decentralized, stand-alone energy systems with no option for the distribution of renewable energy. However, two cities – Qaqortoq and Narsaq - are connected to the same hydro power plant in Qorlortorsuaq. Size matters in Greenland, as the country has an area greater than Mexico and with some communities very remote. The potential for hydropower is far from exhausted. New plants are already further analyzed, developed and in pipeline for five communities: Aasiaat, Qasigiannguit, Maniitsoq, Paamiut and Nanortalik. With more hydropower on the local grids, electric and hybrid cars can replace the use of gasoline and diesel. First- movers have already been out for some years, and more power stations are key to leverage.

Tusindvis af ismeldinger, iskort og ikke mindst flyvetimer er det blevet til i de 50 år. Og der er over årene sket en utrolig udvikling fra den primitive begyndelse til en teknisk avanceret istjeneste, der i dag er på det højeste internationale niveau. Iscentralens historie begynder i 1959 på baggrund af M/S Hans Hedtofts tragiske forlis den 30. januar 1959. Alle 95 ombordværende på Hans Hedtoft omkom i forliset. Hurtigt blev der nedsat det såkaldte ’Vedel-udvalg’, og man kan selv i dag blive imponeret af den beslutsomhed der blev lagt for dagen i 1959. Udvalget fik afsluttet sit arbejde, og allerede sidst på året i november 1959 blev Iscentralen mobiliseret med hjemsted i den ellers næsten nedlagte amerikanske base i Narsarsuaq i Sydgrønland. Mange institutioner har været involveret i Iscentralens imponerede arbejde gennem 50 år. I begyndelsen var det den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel, Ministeriet for Grønland og det daværende Meteorologiske Institut, der havde en historie med indsamling af isobservationer tilbage fra slutningen af 1800-tallet. DMI har således været med fra starten og har siden haft ledelsen af Iscentralen. Selve Iscentralen har udelukkende været bemandet af skibsførere eller styrmænd med solid erfaring fra de barske grønlandske farvande. De har gennem tiderne været udlånt fra KGH, siden KNI, Arctic Umiaq Line og Royal Arctic Line.

[1] An updated accumulation map for Greenland is presented on the basis of 39 new ice core estimates of accumulation, 256 ice sheet estimates from ice cores and snow pits used in previous maps, and reanalysis of time series data from 20 coastal weather stations. The period 1950–2000 is better represented by the data than are earlier periods. Ice-sheet- wide accumulation was estimated based on kriging. The average accumulation (95% confidence interval, or ±2 times standard error) over the Greenland ice sheet is 30.0 ± 2.4 g cmÀ2 aÀ1, with the average accumulation above 2000-m elevation being essentially the same, 29.9 ± 2.2 g cmÀ2 aÀ1. At higher elevations the new accumulation map maintains the main features shown in previous maps. However, there are five coastal areas with obvious differences: southwest, northwest, and eastern regions, where the accumulation values are 20–50% lower than previously estimated, and southeast and northeast regions, where the accumulation values are 20–50% higher than previously estimated. These differences are almost entirely due to new coastal data.
