Megna ([email protected]) Resumen: Se realiza una recopilación actualizada de toda la información taxonómica y corológica disponible sobre las especies cubanas de la familia Dytiscidae. Para ello, se creó la base de datos DICU (DItíscidos de CUba), que incluye datos procedentes de una exhaustiva recopilación bibliográfica, de revisión de colecciones entomológicas y de muestreos propios realizados entre los años 2000 y 2014. La base de datos cuenta con un total de 276 registros de 53 especies, lo que supone el 96,4% del total que se estima para Cuba, y la mayor diversidad de las Antillas. En cada especie se aporta información sobre su distribución (general y en Cuba), hábitat y biología, así como un mapa actualizado mostrando su distribución conocida en Cuba. Estos resultados posibilita- rán la realización de futuros estudios sobre conservación de los ditíscidos de Cuba. Palabras clave: Coleoptera, Dytiscidae, composición taxonómica, distribución, Cuba. A checklist of the Dytiscidae (Coleoptera: Adephaga) of Cuba Abstract: An updated list is here presented of all the available taxonomic and faunistic information on the Cuban species of the family Dytiscidae. To this end, the database DICU (DItíscidos of Cuba) database was created: it includes data from a comprehen- sive bibliographic compilation, a review of several entomological collections and our own sampling, conducted between 2000 and 2014. The database contains a total of 276 records of 53 species, representing 96.4% of the total estimated for Cuba, and the greatest diversity in the Antilles. For each species, information on its (general and Cuban) distribution, habitat and biology is provi- ded, along with an updated map showing its known distribution in Cuba. The trials and tribulations of the search for these fascinating insects are described in a recent article in British Wildlife (Sutton 2017). This article also reveals that some of the medium-sized species of interest, such as those of the genus Rhantus have been included, as have species from other groups, including the raft spider, Dolomedes plantarius (Clerck) and a rare wasp, Chalcis sispes (L.), parasitic on soldierflies (Stratiomyidae), which collectively highlight the conservation importance of some of the very special habitats in which they may be found. SGMA seeks to achieve sustainability, which is defined as the absence of several undesirable results, including “depletions of interconnected surface water that have significant and unreasonable adverse impacts on beneficial users of surface water” (Water Code §10721). The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a science-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Like humans, plants and animals often rely on groundwater for survival, which is why TNC helped develop, and is now helping to implement, SGMA. Earlier this year, we launched the Groundwater Resource Hub, which is an online resource intended to help make it easier and cheaper to address environmental requirements under SGMA. As a first step in addressing when depletions might have an adverse impact, The Nature Conservancy recommends identifying the beneficial users of surface water, which include environmental users. This is a critical step, as it is impossible to define “significant and unreasonable adverse impacts” without knowing what is being impacted. To make this easy, we are providing this letter and the accompanying documents as the best available science on the freshwater species within the boundary of your groundwater sustainability agency (GSA).

Mutchler give1 a list of all the species of the ¶fnilies Dytiscidle, Haliplidae, Gyrinidae, Hydrophilidse, Sphseridiidme, &W4 arni- da, known to the authors to occur in Florida, with full n --their distribution within that state and keys to the species of the genera. They refer to the writer quite often as furnishing distribution and also descriptions of several species. The data for t of these notes were obtained and given to Mr. Leng some years ago.> More extended collecting in the southern part of the state and more careful study of the species taken have furnished additional facts con- cerning the distribution of many of the species listed, and have also led to a change of opinion regarding the names of some of the species. The, following notes, additions, and corrections are therefore offered as sup- plementary to the valuable paper of Leng and Mutchler, the species added being Copelatus debilis Sharp, Copelatus chevrolati australis Schaeffer, Agabus semivittatus LeConte, Derallus altus (LeConte) and the new species herein described, while Dineutes emarginatus (Say) should be stricken from their list. The collecting by the writer in Florida has been limited to the period between October 20 and April 15 and has extended over a range of seven years.2 While the majority of Florida beetles which pass the winter in the adult stage are, at that season, inactive and more or less in a state of hibernation, this is not true of the water beetles and they can be taken in numbers at any time.

Among these, Heterosternuta allegheniana (Matta & Wolfe), H. wickhami (Zaitzev), Hydroporus appalachius Sherman, H. gossei Larson & Roughley, H. nigellus Mannerheim, H. puberulus LeConte, Ilybius picipes (Kirby), and I. wasastjernae (C.R. Sahlberg) are reported for the first time in Nova Scotia. The Nearctic component of the fauna is made up of 71 species (81.6%), the Holarctic component of 16 species (18.4%). Most species are characteristic of both the Boreal and Atlantic Maritime Ecozones and have a transcontinental distribution but 19 species (21.8%), which are generally recognized as species with eastern affinities.

YOUNG The Bahama Islands, British West Indies, lying just off the coast of Florida, offer many possibilities for faunal comparisons, but there are to date very few published records for aquatic Coleoptera. The reason for this dearth of information lies largely in the fact that the fauna as a whole is representative of the coastal lowlands over a vast part of the Antillean-Caribbean region, and entomologists have considered it merely a mixture of North and South American forms. In my opinion, however, the extensive ranges of many of the species together with the isolation of populations on various islands offer many possibi- lities for the study of speciation and ecological adaptations. The paucity of species in the coastal lowlands of the Antilles is largely a reflection of the lack of variety of aquatic habitats in which water beetles can live, not to barriers to migration. On the Bahamas the available habitats are about at a minimum, consisting mainly of small and often transient rain-water pools, small, semi-permanent, fresh-water ponds with poorly developed aquatic vegetation, artificial cisterns and pools, brackish lagoons, tidal pools, and the "pannes" and "potholes" of the salt marshes. Potholes in limestone areas, fresh-water marshes, and water- holding plants may present other types of conditions locally. A total of 2450 individuals from 79 species were collected from 98 different localities, among which 30 species are newly recorded from that region. Among these, Acilius sylvanus Hilsenhoff, Rhantus consimilis Motschulsky and Neoporus sulcipennis (Fall) stand out as representing the easternmost reports of these species in Canada. Once removed, Gyrinus aquiris LeConte (Gyrinidae) is reinstated in the faunal list of Prince Edward Island. According to this study and literature 84 species of Hydradephaga are currently known from Prince Edward Island. The Nearctic component of the fauna is made up of 68 species (80.9%) and the Holarctic component of 16 species (19.1%).

Le bureau d’études Onikha accompagné d’experts taxonomistes nord-américains a échantillonné une vingtaine de « criques », appellation locale des cours d’eaux de faibles à moyenne importance, lors du petit été de mars 2019. 60 espèces de coléoptères aquatiques ont été identifiées. 15 appartiennent à la famille des Elmidae, 1 à la famille des Dryopidae, 35 à la famille des Dytiscidae, 8 à la famille des Noteridae et une à la famille des Ptilodactylidae.
