NlLSSON Abstract A series of corrections and additions are given to the World Catalogue of Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) recently published as Volume 3 of the World Catalogue of Insect Series (NlLSSON 2001). A type species is selected of Badynectus SEIDLITZ, 1872. The preoccupied name Hydroporus trimaculatus THEOBALD, 1937, is replaced with Hydroporus theobaldi nomen novum. The number of recent species of the family Dytiscidae is now 3810. Key words: Coleoptera, Dytiscidae, world, catalogue, replacement name, type species, corrections, additions. Introduction My World Catalogue of the beetle family Dytiscidae (NlLSSON 2001) was published on November 22 and included names published up to September 30 the same year. It is my intention to publish regular up-dates of the catalogue based on more recent publications and continuous search for over-looked sources of information. Diving beetles of the Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, with four new re- cords for Thailand (Coleoptera, Dytiscidae). Spixiana 41 (1): 91-98. A recent survey of the Dytiscidae of Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve, Nakhon Ratcha- sima Province in Northeast Thailand revealed 9 genera and 22 species, mainly collected in lentic habitats. Most identified species are widespread in the Indo- Malayan region. Copelatus oblitus Sharp, 1882, Cybister convexus Sharp, 1882, Hydro- vatus sinister Sharp, 1890 and Laccophilus latipennis Brancucci, 1983 are recorded for the first time in Thailand. The distributional range and ecology are discussed for each species. Photos of remarkable species and habitats in the dry and during the rainy season and a map are provided. SGMA seeks to achieve sustainability, which is defined as the absence of several undesirable results, including “depletions of interconnected surface water that have significant and unreasonable adverse impacts on beneficial users of surface water” (Water Code §10721). The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a science-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Like humans, plants and animals often rely on groundwater for survival, which is why TNC helped develop, and is now helping to implement, SGMA. Earlier this year, we launched the Groundwater Resource Hub, which is an online resource intended to help make it easier and cheaper to address environmental requirements under SGMA. As a first step in addressing when depletions might have an adverse impact, The Nature Conservancy recommends identifying the beneficial users of surface water, which include environmental users. This is a critical step, as it is impossible to define “significant and unreasonable adverse impacts” without knowing what is being impacted. To make this easy, we are providing this letter and the accompanying documents as the best available science on the freshwater species within the boundary of your groundwater sustainability agency (GSA). -

Phylogenetic Relationships and Larval Morphology of the Recently Described Diving Beetle Genus Laccomimus (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae: Laccophilinae)

The larvae of the diving beetle genus Laccomimus Toledo & Michat, 2015 (Laccophilinae) are studied for the first time, based on detailed descriptions and illustrations of all instars of L. distinctus Toledo & Michat, 2015, with particular emphasis on mor- phometry and chaetotaxy. The phylogenetic relationships of this genus within the tribe Laccophilini are analyzed cladistically. Lac- comimus is recovered as part of a clade that includes the genera Australphilus Watts, 1978, Neptosternus Sharp, 1882 and Laccophilus Leach, 1815 and is characterized by the presence of natatory setae on the tibia and tarsus, and within this clade it is a sister to the other genera. Third-instar larvae of Laccomimus and Africophilus Guignot, 1948 share the mediodistal insertion of the seta CO7 on the meso- and metacoxa, a short and spine-like seta TI6 on the metatibia, a ventrally sclerotized abdominal segment V and a short urogom- phus. These characters are considered plesiomorphic and indicate a basal position of both genera within the Laccophilini. -

ZooKeys 897: 49–66. https:// doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.897.46344 Abstract The Haliplidae, Gyrinidae, and Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada were surveyed during the years 2006–2007. A total of 2027 individuals from 85 species was collected from 94 different localities, which brings to 87 the number of species recorded for this locality. Among these, Heterosternuta allegheniana (Matta & Wolfe), H. wickhami (Zaitzev), Hydroporus appalachius Sherman, H. gossei Larson & Roughley, H. nigellus Mannerheim, H. puberulus LeConte, Ilybius picipes (Kirby), and I. wasastjernae (C.R. Sahlberg) are reported for the first time in Nova Scotia. The Nearctic component of the fauna is made up of 71 species (81.6%), the Holarctic component of 16 species (18.4%). Most species are characteristic of both the Boreal and Atlantic Maritime Ecozones and have a transcontinental distribution but 19 species (21.8%), which are generally recognized as species with eastern affinities. -

YOUNG The Bahama Islands, British West Indies, lying just off the coast of Florida, offer many possibilities for faunal comparisons, but there are to date very few published records for aquatic Coleoptera. The reason for this dearth of information lies largely in the fact that the fauna as a whole is representative of the coastal lowlands over a vast part of the Antillean-Caribbean region, and entomologists have considered it merely a mixture of North and South American forms. In my opinion, however, the extensive ranges of many of the species together with the isolation of populations on various islands offer many possibi- lities for the study of speciation and ecological adaptations. The paucity of species in the coastal lowlands of the Antilles is largely a reflection of the lack of variety of aquatic habitats in which water beetles can live, not to barriers to migration. On the Bahamas the available habitats are about at a minimum, consisting mainly of small and often transient rain-water pools, small, semi-permanent, fresh-water ponds with poorly developed aquatic vegetation, artificial cisterns and pools, brackish lagoons, tidal pools, and the "pannes" and "potholes" of the salt marshes. Potholes in limestone areas, fresh-water marshes, and water- holding plants may present other types of conditions locally.
