It is a gram negative, nonfermenting bacterium distributed widely in soil and water. We present a case of urinary tract infection caused by Chryseobacterium gleum in a patient with right lower ureteric calculi. Case presentation: This case describes a 62- year-old male admitted for ureteric calculi to the Department of Urology in a tertiary care hospital in Kerala. A strain of Chryseobacterium gleum was isolated and confirmed by MALDI-TOF MS .The bacterium was sensitive to Piperacillin-Tazobactum (100/10µg ), Cefotaxime(30µg),Ceftazidime(30 µg ) and Ofloxacin(30 µg). It was resistant to Nitrofurantoin (300µg),Tobramycin(10µg),Gentamicin(30µg),Nalidixic acid(30µg) and Amikacin(30µg). Conclusion: Chryseobacterium gleum should be considered as a potential opportunistic and emerging pathogen. Resistance to a wide range of antibiotics such as aminoglycosides, penicillin, cephalosporins has been documented. In depth studies on Epidemiological, virulence and pathogenicity factors needs to be done for better diagnosis and management. C. bovis is a member of the Flavobacteriaceae, a family within the phylum Bacteroidetes. It was isolated when psychrotolerant bacterial communities in raw milk and their proteolytic and lipolytic traits were studied. Here we describe the features of this organism, together with the draft genome sequence and annotation. The DNA G + C content is 38.19%. The chromosome length is 3,346,045 bp. It encodes 3236 proteins and 105 RNA genes. The C. bovis genome is part of the Genomic Encyclopedia of Type Strains, Phase I: the one thousand microbial genomes study. -

(Hemiptera): a high throughput metabarcoding analysis Li Lim & Abdul Hafz Ab Majid* With the development of new metagenomic techniques, the microbial community structure of common bed bugs, Cimex lectularius, is well‑studied, while information regarding the constituents of the bacterial communities associated with tropical bed bugs, Cimex hemipterus, is lacking. In this study, the bacteria communities in the blood‑fed and starved tropical bed bugs were analysed and characterized by amplifying the v3‑v4 hypervariable region of the 16S rRNA gene region, followed by MiSeq Illumina sequencing. Across all samples, Proteobacteria made up more than 99% of the microbial community. An alpha‑proteobacterium Wolbachia and gamma‑proteobacterium, including Dickeya chrysanthemi and Pseudomonas, were the dominant OTUs at the genus level. Although the dominant OTUs of bacterial communities of blood‑fed and starved bed bugs were the same, bacterial genera present in lower numbers were varied. The bacteria load in starved bed bugs was also higher than blood‑fed bed bugs. Cimex hemipterus Fabricus (Hemiptera), also known as tropical bed bugs, is an obligate blood-feeding insect throughout their entire developmental cycle, has made a recent resurgence probably due to increased worldwide travel, climate change, and resistance to insecticides1–3. Distribution of tropical bed bugs is inclined to tropical regions, and infestation usually occurs in human dwellings such as dormitories and hotels 1,2. Bed bugs are a nuisance pest to humans as people that are bitten by this insect may experience allergic reactions, iron defciency, and secondary bacterial infection from bite sores4,5. -

Mboup1 Abstract Background: Here we report a rare case of a urinary tract infection due to Chryseobacterium gleum. This widely distributed Gram-negative bacillus is an uncommon human pathogen and is typically associated with health care settings. Case presentation: We describe a case of urinary tract infection caused by Chryseobacterium gleum in a 68-year-old man of Wolof ethnicity (an ethnic group in Senegal, West Africa) who presented to our Department of Urology in a university teaching hospital (Hôpital Aristide Le Dantec) in Dakar, Senegal, 1 month after prostatectomy. The strain isolated from a urine sample was identified as Chryseobacterium gleum by mass spectrometry (Vitek matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization, time-of-flight, bioMérieux) and confirmed by 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid sequencing. The organism was resistant to a wide range of antibiotics, including carbapenem, due to a resident metallo-β- lactamase gene that shared 99% of amino-acid identity with Chryseobacterium gleum class B enzym. Conclusions: Infection by Chryseobacterium gleum is infrequent, and no such case has been previously reported in Africa. Despite its low virulence, Chryseobacterium gleum should be considered a potential opportunistic and emerging pathogen. Further studies on the epidemiology, pathogenicity, and resistance mechanisms of Chryseobacterium gleum are needed for better diagnosis and management. -

The isolate revealed Gram- stain-negative, rod-shaped cells. A comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the isolate showed 99.1, 97.8, and 97.4 % similarity to the 16S rRNA gene sequences of the type strains of Elizabethkingia anophelis, Elizabethkingia meningoseptica and Elizabethkingia miricola, respectively. The fatty acid profile of strain JM-87T consisted mainly of the major fatty acids C15:0 iso, C17:0 iso 3-OH, and C15:0 iso 2-OH/C16:1v7c/t. The quinone system of strain JM- 87T contained, exclusively, menaquinone MK-6. The major polyamine was sym-homospermidine. The polar lipid profile consisted of the major lipid phosphatidylethanolamine plus several unidentified aminolipids and other unidentified lipids. DNA–DNA hybridization experiments with E. meningoseptica CCUG 214T (5ATCC 13253T), E. miricola KCTC 12492T (5GTC 862T) and E. anophelis R26T resulted in relatedness values of 17 % (reciprocal 16 %), 30 % (reciprocal 19 %), and 51 % (reciprocal 54 %), respectively.
